When a Coffee Run Goes Bad (Fred and our good Mr. Mayor Heart)
Fred had continued to come help Jensen in the comm central of the Clocktower after their...understanding. Of course Jensen had occassionally turned on the little boy charm to pout at her just enough to ask that she come back. To help. Yep! Helping was now defined with randomly snitched smooches. Suddenly his job didn't suck quite so much.

Today there were some final beta tests being run to make sure he had all of the critical programs working properly with his OS. That meant there was no time on their hands. Part of him was tempted to see how far Fred was willing to take those smooches, but decided he should probably behave himself and take them on a coffee run. All of the cups, makers and cupboards were bare of the essential goodness anyway so he suggested they go get some together. Maybe grab a sandwich while they were at it. He whined that he was running on empty as they left.

His goofiness increased the more fresh air he got. He didn't get out enough lately. It led to Fred getting her ribs tweaked from behind and him looming over her shoulder as he made to bite at her neck and spoke in a cheesy Dracula accent. "Perhaps you still have some caffiene in your blood system."

Jack wasn't going to just sit down and have a cup of coffee with Fred and her new boyfriend. He kept his glare directed at Jake and didn't even look at the petite brunette.

"Outside would suit me just fine. I was on my way out anyway."

"Sure." He kept his eyes steady on Jack. In man speak they were drawing lines with their urine. "This is better than coffee anyway, and I really want to hear your answer to my question. Mr. Mayor."

For a moment, Fred wondered if this was a bad idea. Maybe sitting down to have a nice cup of tea or coffee would be better. She looked at the two men then took a bit of a shrug she started for the door. Hopefully they followed without too much problem. If that was possible.

"You know everyone did the best they could." Still trying to diffuse the situation, even if she wasn't doing a great job of it. Or she was just talking to herself, depending on close the not so happy men were.

Jack headed for the door, sure that Fred and Jake would be right behind him.

He wasn't listening to what Fred had to say, but once they were out in the street in front of the building, he turned his attention to Jensen and crossed his arms.

"Vigilantism is illegal, to start listing the laws that your team broke."

Oh he followed, shaking his hands out to loosen up his tendons. His eyes narrowed on the back of that stupid blonde head and thought up about seven different ways he could lump it up.

Once on the street and Jack faced him in that ridiculously guarded pose, Jenses squared off from him looking relaxed.

"Define vigilantism, according to the law." He bobbled his brows. "Bet you can't."

While one looked as if he were prepared to give a lecture, and the other looked as if he were ready to ignore said lecture, Fred was still uncomfortable. This didn't make any sense at all. They were going to fight about the King Kong incident? Or maybe she was reading too much into their stances.

"I'm sure he knows it. We don't have to bet on it." The brainy female tried to smile reassuringly. She was probably failing. "You don't have to. It's...we..this is kind of silly, isn't it? I'm sure if we all sat down, Dinah and Jack and maybe an unbiased party or something, sat down, we'd get this all fixed, yes?"

She gave them a hopeful look this time. She would have touched them had she thought it was a good idea, maybe just a little pet on the arm for each. Only, one was her ex, and the other was a little more than a growing interest. Touching didn't seem like the right thing to do.

Jack uncrossed his arms, but his pose stayed somewhat stiff. He rolled his eyes at Jensen. Was the man actually insinuating that he didn't know the definition of a word he was using? It was ridiculous. Fred was all but ignored.

"A vigilante is anyone who takes the law into his own hands, usually with use of excessive violence. I believe that even before this team was formed, your Black Canary, Batman, and Green Arrow were all guilty of this. It was just a lot harder to look the other way when they started doing things this blatantly."

After all, he knew that crime was down thanks to those three, even if they used more violence than he would have preferred. But acting in secret was very different from acting in public and basically sticking their proverbial tongues out at all of the laws that were in place in the City.

"Wrong!" Jensen looked smug as he jabbed a finger in Jack's direction but kept to poking air instead of the mayor.

"By definition, and I quote the Oxford dictionary, is 'a member of a self-appointed group of citizens who undertake law enforcement in their community without legal authority, typically because the legal agencies are thought to be inadequate.'" He smirked as he made a point of leaning towards Fred but never taking his eyes from Jack, and he spoke in a mock whisper. "I looked that up after that statement."

Then he straightened. His eyes held a hard glint to them even though his expression was still glib. "So tell me Mr. Mayor, what legal agencies in the City are adequate to take on King Kong, the Joker or Godzilla since I hear that happened?"

"We don't have to work outside the law. Avengers worked in the law. They were part of the law, they are part of the law, the law's involved in there somewhere." Fred looked between the two men.

"There's really no need to be so hostile toward each other; we can work this out." Yes, this was getting to be silly. It was as if they were goading each other, not at all being the sensible or intelligent men she thought they could be.

Jack glanced at Fred then.

"As I told Zatanna, I would like a meeting with your leader. Assuming that the Justice League plans to work with the law, that would reasonably be the best place to start in carving out boundaries to make sure that the group is using their abilities responsibly and not just beating people up because they can."

He leveled his gaze at Jensen.

"Or because they thought that said people had broken into their computer systems," he said blandly.

"Oh, right!" He snapped his fingers then wagged a finger at Jack. "Fishnets B. Say. Didn't I see a whole bunch of photos of you and her getting all up close and personal? There was speculation that something torrid might have been going on behind the curtain." He raised his brows in an Ah HA look. "That was what, a few weeks ago?" Intimating it was before Fred broke up with Jack. "And just before the vote that put you where you are. Doesn't our lovely magician work, y'know, magic?" Now his eyes held that hard glint in them. "Might suck if someone sent in a suggestion that might call the voting into question. Anonymously, of course."

Fred blinked at the both of them. Her lips brows furrowed as they both went to very strange places, or more they seemed more personal attacks. She looked from one to the other; why were they doing this? She didn't know what to say exactly to what was going on, and she had no idea why this was happening. Or if she did, it was buried deep in denial.

"Y'all really don't have to do this. Y'all are better than this." She just shook her head. "I gotta get something to eat, and I think I left something...somewhere." She looked at both men before shaking her head again and started to walk away.

"It's like they gotta measure their dicks. All cause one wrote a statement he's gotta right." She was definitely talking to herself as she walked rather determinedly away.

Jack laughed-actually laughed-at the things Jensen was hinting at. They were getting ludicrous. Fred had been there on the night in question when the press had made up that ridiculous story about Zatanna.

"So you're going to accuse one of the members of your own team of hijacking an election? I'm sure that will help the public's perception of all of you."

He watched as Fred walked away, feeling a bit bad that they'd upset her. That said, he was on the verge of walking away himself.

"Looks like you're losing your girlfriend's attention," he said pointedly.
