Back on the Job [open]
Jo wasn't sure what exactly happened to people who had amnesia and then got their memory back again. Did they go back to their jobs? Jo had to admit that maybe it was that way for her. She had no formal education in anything, except for maybe hustling people and bar tending. Growing up in a roadhouse had perhaps yielded to her some information after all. She wasn't sure what the City was up to, but after trying to find the bar where she used to work, she was forced to go job hunting again. The one thing about bars was that if you had a pretty face, chances were that they would hire you. That is, except for when the bar maid that they hired pulled out a shotgun and knew how to use it. That either made sure she stayed or made sure that she got fired.

She was on bar number three for employment before she finally found a permanent job of sorts. The owner was nearly as drunk as his patrons, and for that, Jo was grateful, especially when she could point a shotgun in his face and not get fired. It made the job interesting. The more interesting thing was that the owner's wife seemed to be running the whole operation from behind the scenes, and instantly made sure that Jo got a room in the back after she pointed the shotgun.

Cleaning off the bar after a long night of serving drinks and cleaning it, Jo wasn't surprised that quite a few people were passing by outside. The bar never officially closed, serving well into the wee hours of the morning just to make the money needed to run the place. Jo had been in plenty of bad places before, and this really wasn't so bad. Especially when the men didn't know the dollar bills that they pulled out for tips. Her weapons were safely stored in the back, and right after this, Jo was going to close up. She had to get Hunting again, it was like a beacon calling out to her.

Bruce's attention was drawn to the outspoken new arrival at the bar. She looked willing and able to fight, but did Bruce really want to pick a fight with a woman? His aunt had brought him up with virtues like chivalry and honor, which he proudly upheld, even if they seemed a little outdated sometimes.

Still, it wouldn't be the first time he'd been slugged by a female, he considered. In elementary, middle, and even occasionally in high school he'd been bullied by girls in addition to the usual assortment of male jocks and thugs. This catalog of memories began to flick through his mind - boys and girls picking on him, trying to make themselves feel stronger.

Bruce knew of someone stronger than them, someone who was slowly waking.

I'm not going to start a fight, he explained to himself. I'm just going to go over there and pay for my drink. If I should happen to bump into the woman at the bar, that's no big deal. If she bumps back, well then, she gets whatever she gets.

He stood up, wobbled a little, and attempted to look cool and confident. As he had told himself, he walked over, asked to pay for his drinks, and casually jostled the arm of the woman at the bar.

"Cheers," she said to the girl behind the bar, taking a large gulp before she even sat. The familiar taste settled her nerves somewhat--not much, but some--and she slid a a fifty out in front of her. "Keep 'em coming, and keep the change."

Lee was all ready to ignore everyone and brood quietly (or maybe not so quietly. She got louder when she got drunker) until morning came, or until she was kicked out, whichever came first. She raised her glass again, intent on finishing what remained, when she was bumped. She coughed as the Ambar splashed around her face and more than a little went up her nose. Great. Fucking great. She whipped around to face whoever it was that bumped her, little hints of blue energy beginning to crackle in the shadow under her hood. "You wanna apologize for that, buddy?"

She hoped he didn't. Boy, did she hope he didn't.

Jo fished the dollar bill from off the counter, wondering inwardly what currency the City was running on, if it did at all. Either way, she'd take what she got, even as she turned back to clean some more glances until the tell-tale chime of glass being slammed down on the bar told her otherwise. All in all, it looked to be a nice, quiet..........

Well, it had been a nice quiet night. As a bartender growing up in the middle of nowhere, Jo knew a thing or two about brawls and how to break them up. And they usually started at the most simplest things, so simple that Jo had to wonder how drunk people were before they started them. Her hands stilled as she turned to the two people in question who looked like they were about to go at it. Her eyes narrowed as she put down the glass and the rag, her hands just inching for the shotgun underneath the table.

"Hey now, y'all," she warned quite firmly. "Let's just take it easy." Her hands closed around the shotgun, ready to whip it out if necessary.

Bruce ignored the bartender for the moment. He turned to face the redhead, keeping his eyes locked on hers. He waited a few seconds, enjoying the thrill of the staredown. His heartbeat drummed rapidly. His irises briefly flashed green, though he was not aware of it.
Eventually he raised his hands in surrender and slowly stepped back, maintaining eye contact and a confrontational stance. "Wouldn't want to mess your pretty hair, I guess." It wasn't even close to an apology. As if to further invite the woman to fight, he casually turned his back on her as he walked away.

Lee likewise ignored the bartender. She saw the flash of green, though it wasn't nearly enough to cause her to look away. As he stepped back, she wasn't sure whether to feel triumphant or disappointed at the lack of action. And then--

"Oh, fuck you," she snarled, and she threw herself out at him, arm cocked back to punch him upside the head and teach him some manners. Her hood flew back with the movement, and blue energy crackled plainly in and around her eyes.

Hey, there was no Dolf here to warn her off of fighting in the bar. And Lee didn't know the girl here nearly well enough to respect any wishes in that regard just yet.

"Oh fucking hell no," was Jo's first and only thought before blows were being sent. It was one thing to see green, another to see people inching toward the bar for the impending fight, and a whole entire other world to see blue energy popping up out of nowhere. Jo considered for a brief moment handing in her resignation and then walking out of there, possibly still alive.

Screw that.

Her fingers closed around the shotgun instantaneous as she quickly lifted it and fired off one round to at least clear the place. She really hoped that these people knew that if they broke it, they paid for it. Multiple times over. "Don' suppose you want your beer now, do ya?" she drawled, still holding the shotgun. Something was about to go down. "Take it outside, why don'cha?"

It was actually the shotgun blast that did it. A sudden flashback to the military hunting him with guns and tanks opened the last door, and the beast emerged.

At first it may have looked like he had a nervous shudder, then it quickly became something like a back spasm. Soon, muscles and bones were visibly warping and his skin was blotching into an unnatural shade of green. He was also getting visibly taller and wider, bursting through his workshirt and slacks, revealing an odd pair of vivid purple pants beneath.

Within the space of about ten seconds he had transformed from a wiry, drunk scientist into a muscle-bound, angry green Hulk. He turned around and, seeing the shotgun, made a grab for it.

"Hulk smash boomstick!"

Lee staggered to a halt just sort of her intended target. The shotgun hadn't bothered her at all; she was all geared up to fight now and a mere shotgun wasn't going to do much more than piss her off and maybe leave her with a couple of light bruises. But... giant mutating green guy (in purple pants, what the hell was up with that?) in place of just your everyday asshole? Yeah, that was kind of new, even for her.

Her surprise lasted just long enough to make the energy fizzle out, though it flickered back into existence as she saw him lunging towards the bartender. Lee could take care of herself. And normally, the girl might have been able to as well. (Lee had to give her mental props for knowing how to use a shotgun and not threatening to call the cops first.)

"Oh no you fucking don't," she growled and changed direction to throw herself in between the giant green fellow ("Hulk"? If that was indeed his name, what the fuck kind of name was that?) and the bartender. If her plan worked and he collided into her instead, she'd be pissed and the bar might very well be wrecked by one or both of them flying into it, but it could very well buy time for the non-indestructible people to scatter.

"Oh shit." The minute the quiet guy from the corner morphed into that and started coming for her, Jo was already on the move, diving for the counter-top that doubled as a door and scrambling to crawl under it as best she could. If her employers were asleep before, she had a feeling it was best to wake up now, because this wasn't going to be a brawl.

This was going to be her running around, wondering why she stashed her stuff in the back while this green demon-thing and this woman who was possibly also a demon duked it out.

She wondered if it was humanly possible for demons to get married, because the way these two went at it, it looked like they had some unfinished business from perhaps when they were mortal or something.

Shuddering and trying to clear her head, Jo picked herself up with her shotgun and turned to survey the damage. Yep. I so quit after this.

The Hulk was too slow to catch the bartender or her gun, and he grasped at the air. Furthermore, the redhead had knocked his arm aside with apparently little trouble. Lots of things made Hulk angry, of course, but being thwarted so easily was pretty high on the list.

He growled and screwed up his face in frustration, and drove an oversized fist down through the countertop as a show of force. Then with both hands, he made a grab for the red-haired woman in front of him, fully intending to toss her through the window.

Lee grunted as she knocked into the green guy's arm. Goddamn, that shit hurt. Not that it would cause any real damage to her, but it didn't improve her mood one whit. She preferred to make contact with opponents with feet and fists rather than with full-body checks.

She paused as she collected herself and glanced back at the bartender. Still had the shotgun in her hands, it seemed. Admirable, but that only went so far. "Are you stupid? Run!"

Of course, that second of hesitation meant that the green guy had grabbed her, and Lee found herself hurled at the window. This is going to suck. She steeled herself for the impact and the impending unpleasant sensation of glass shards bouncing off of her skin. On the upside, being outside meant that she'd feel a lot better about unleashing the power that was currently back to crackling menacingly through her eyes. She grunted again as she hit the street and bounced, but she rolled to her feet and ran back towards the busted window (which she had no intent of paying for. The other guy had thrown her through it, and she hadn't had much choice in the matter.)

"Hey asshole! Come out and play!"

"Hell no!" Jo shouted back, even as she did in fact start running. This demon thing going on between the two of them was just getting to be a bit much. Darting as best as she could around the various bits of damage, she had a feeling that this place wasn't going to hold itself up for much longer, the way things were going.

"While you're at it, take this outside, goddamnit!" Jo shouted, tossing the shotgun to the side. It wasn't even a good one. It had taken Jo forever to get it to work, much less fire anything that wasn't lethal. Digging into her back pocket, and feeling the knife still there, she was at a loss at what to do.

Then again, there was always darting around to the back.

Darting out the doors and shoving people aside, Jo did just that.

The blonde with the boomstick was forgotten, for the moment. Perhaps she'd return to the Hulk's thoughts if it occurred to him.

"Hulk not asshole!" the beast replied to the redhead, just before plowing through the front of the building and emerging outside. Rubble and dust fell from his shoulders as he approached the woman. "Red hair lady want fight."

With a bang of metal, he plunged his fingers into the side of a small car parked nearby. Grunting a little with strain - he wasn't quite enraged enough to attempt his more impressive feats of strength - he ripped out the passenger-side door and hurled it at his antagonist like a Frisbee. "Hulk give her fight!"

Immediately he leapt over the car, ready to follow up with a running punch, if she happened to dodge or shrug off the projectile.

"You spilled my beer, turned into the Jolly Green Fuckin' Giant, drove off the bartender, and threw me through a goddamn window. Yeah, you're kind of an asshole." She cracked her knuckles and balanced on the balls of her feet, ready for whatever he threw at her.

Granted, she hadn't meant that last part literally, but it turned out to be fitting. Lee threw herself into a roll, barely missing being knocked clear across the street by the car door. She looked up, saw him coming at her, and let loose with a blast of energy. It shot outward, ready to do some damage to anything it came in contact with--not nearly her full potential, but she didn't have the time to put much focus and concentration into it. She steeled herself for impact in case it wasn't enough, or just plain didn't work.

Jo stopped as she turned back and watched as the part of the bar that was facing the street got a new door. She had to blink as she watched it come apart as that green demon-thing came through. Her eyes went wide as she took it in before swallowing hard and going back through the back door. She hoped it wasn't going to go through the back door next. She briefly wondered if an exorcism would work on that thing, and shoved that idea aside as she went right for her things.

Slinging her bag over one shoulder and ignoring the weight she was putting on it, she picked up the shotgun that she had propped up against the wall beside her door and just ran outside before they completely destroyed the place. Which was becoming very likely by the looks of it.

Darting back outside to see how they were doing, she had to suppress the urge to yell something else out. Sure, she had said to take it outside. She just didn't expect them to take the whole bar out with them.

Now all she needed was to steal a truck and get out of here.

A huge, green fist collided with the crackling field of energy. It dissipated under the force of the blow, but it also bit back at the attacker. The Hulk roared in surprise and pain, and stumbled to a stop.

He took a step back, reconsidering his options.

Spotting another car, he tore off the hood and held it in front of him like a shield. Now temporarily protected, he ran full tilt at the redhead.

Locked away somewhere in the Hulk's skull, Bruce was dimly aware of these events, thrilling in geekish excitement to the super-powered slugfest. "Awesome," his thoughts read, roughly. "I just hope this girl can last a few more rounds."

Lee yelled in surprise as some of the energy backlashed at her, knocked back and feeling like her skin was on fire. She was nearly invulnerable, true, but there were always ways around anything.

She staggered to her feet and tried to get her thoughts together enough to bring herself back under control. And of course, she saw something large and green hurtling over towards her. "Oh, fuck."

She managed to roll to the side, but just barely--the car hood clipped her leg and the shock was enough to knock her off-balance. She landed in an ungraceful burgundy heap, trying to get to her feet once more, though her leg crumpled. Goddamn, was it broken? Shit. She pushed herself up despite it, yelling angrily and trying for one more swing. She wasn't going to take this shit lying down.

Jo was just plain about to give up on trying to find a truck because Mr. Green-boom-clang-smash was just ripping up everything in sight. And if he wasn't, the weirdo electro-redhead was covering that. Between the two of them, it would be a miracle if the block ended up surviving.

Spotting a nearby truck, Jo muttered something along the lines of 'screw this' and threw her stuff in through the open window. No keys in the ignition though, curse her luck. Hot wire it was. She just hoped that she remembered how to do it.

Wheeling back around, the soles of the Hulk's feet skidded like tires on the pavement. He was just a couple of paces away from her, and could have pounded her into the ground in a second, but as he looked at her injured form, he seemed to calm down a little. Mabye the Hulk just didn't see her as much of a threat.

Still, she was screaming at him, so he walked up and confronted her once more. "You done fighting. You go 'way now." He stood ready to block any more energy with the car hood clutched in his left hand while he wound up with his right arm for a jab.

((Sorry this took so long!))

Her leg was distracting her. Her concentration faltered, and the blow broke through what little invulnerability she had managed to muster up. Shit, she thought in the seconds between being hit and hitting the ground. Stubborn as she was, she may have forced herself back up for yet another round of getting the shit beat out of her, but her head cracked loudly on the pavement as she landed and knocked her out cold.

[Not a problem, seeing as how I probably took longer.]

With a stutter, the car came to life as Jo buckled herself in. "Thank you, Ash for teachin' me something that came in handy after all." Putting the truck in reverse, Jo maneuvered it out of the parking space, glancing in front of her to see who was getting beat up more. While she would have loved to stick around, she had a feeling she'd let the two of them finish whatever they needed to do.

Once she was out, she shifted gears again and drove away. Hopefully to find somewhere else to sleep tonight. And to possibly get some new IDs.
