Break Out the Champagne (Open to all)
The votes were in and the announcement had been made. Jack's campaign manager had already made arrangements for a victory party, just in case. This was a new concept to him. Back home, when his mother had been dethroned, the citizens had celebrated in the streets. But there hadn't been a party to celebrate his victory. Of course, that was because it really wasn't his victory at all. He'd worked behind the scenes to set things up, but in the end it had been Alice that had made it possible for them take back Wonderland and free the Oysters (and the general populace from the addiction to the false emotions bottled in tea form that had been generated from the Oysters).

All the same, Jack was just a little bit uncomfortable with being treated as though he'd had a great accomplishment by winning the election. Becoming the leader of a place wasn't a prize to be won. It was a duty, and for sure an honor that he'd won. But an achievement? No. Making things better for those who lived here would be an achievement, if he could accomplish it.

So while he didn't feel that he 'deserved' a party, he was here nonetheless. His campaign manager had insisted that it was a good way to get to know those who had voted for him, and to start earning their trust as leader.

Jack straightened his tie and surveyed the reception hall. Waiters in tuxedos milled around with trays of champagne and h'ors d'oeurves while a few security guards watched the perimeter. A band struck up the first few chords of a song and a few people in formalwear had started to arrive,

Unfortunately, Jack thought that if the boy with the vividly colored spiky hair decided to crash, the security force wouldn't be able to keep him out. But since the last rally, no one had complained about him wearing his sword wherever he went.

OOC: any characters are welcome, and feel free to socialize amongst yourselves as well as giving your character the chance to meet and greet the new mayor.

Fred breathed a little better once they were outside, away from all the craziness that was the party. Her fingers squeezed Jack's once more as she finally came to a stop. She didn't look at him directly. Her eyes lifted to the sky, as much as she knew she should talk to him, she didn't want to. She wasn't even sure what she wanted to say to him.

"You do look very nice, Jack," she said as she finally looked up at him rather than the sky. Her free hand lifted to brush off his lapel; it didn't need it, but she needed to do something.

"It's nice out here. You won't get to be outside very much. You'll be very busy." She didn't sound as if she were complaining. "You'll be taking care of everyone in the City; I think that's amazing, Jack." Yes, she was still putting off whatever was on her mind. Sort of.

Jack squeezed Fred's hand as well, and then he lifted his free hand to smooth some hair out of her face. He leaned in, about to kiss her.

"Even mayors need to take time to themselves ever now and then you know. I'll be busy, but there are some things worth making time for."

He didn't get the chance to kiss her, or for Fred to say anything else that she might have had to say. Instead, the doors burst open and a brunette joined them.

Jack turned to her, and she gave Fred the slightest of apologetic smiles, before she flashed her press pass.

"Lois Lane, Dai-City Voice, Mayor Heart. I was hoping I could get a few quotes from you."

Fred was more than willing to kiss Jack; who wouldn't want to kiss this knight? What he said was nice, but was it really enough? She didn't want to be a burden. She wanted to help him, to make his life easier. She didn't want to hurt him, but it seemed like the best thing to deal with it now before things became more serious?

The interruption was a little unpleasant, yet it did put off what she may have to do. Fred turned to look at the brunette, who was...Fred's brows lifted when the woman's name sunk in. She glanced at Jack, but had a feeling he wouldn't recognize the name. Lois Lane? The Lois Lane was standing there, wanting a quote from Jack? For the moment Fred's brain was quickly reconciling these things; it wasn't everyday the brainy female was faced with a surprise, well, a surprise like this. Perhaps it was a good thing Jack didn't know who Lois Lane was, if he didn't that was.

Jack didn't know who Lois Lane was. That was probably better for Lois, though unfortunately for Jack, he didn't know that he was currently facing someone who had been described more than once as a 'pitbull on a pant leg' when she was turned onto a story.

"This isn't the best time, Ms. Lane. But I'll be back inside soon and I'll be happy to-"

Lois cut him off with a polite, but determined smile.

"It will only take a few minutes. I'm sure you'd rather clarify your position on a few things, in your own words."

Fred looked from the new mayor to the most recent addition - Fred hoped Lois was recent or somehow they'd kept the reporter very quiet - to the paper. The brainy female smiled slightly as she looked back up at Jack.

"I should probably let you take care of this. Although I do wonder why you didn't already take care of this, Ms. Lane." Fred wasn't one to just be quiet. In fact, she could probably out talk Lois Lane without trying. "I'm a little surprised you haven't already set up an interview because that's how most professionals do it, isn't it? Not that I wouldn't call you professional because you seem like a woman who wants to get the job done. Just would think you'd let someone enjoy their night, rather than gang up on them when they're obviously having a personal moment. You could have interrupted a proposal or a pregnancy announcement. It could have been almost anything."

It took Fred a moment to realize what she was saying. "Not that that's what's going on because we haven't even had sex yet." Her eyes got big and she looked at Jack and bit her bottom lip. This was a great example for why she was a bad idea.
