Break Out the Champagne (Open to all)
The votes were in and the announcement had been made. Jack's campaign manager had already made arrangements for a victory party, just in case. This was a new concept to him. Back home, when his mother had been dethroned, the citizens had celebrated in the streets. But there hadn't been a party to celebrate his victory. Of course, that was because it really wasn't his victory at all. He'd worked behind the scenes to set things up, but in the end it had been Alice that had made it possible for them take back Wonderland and free the Oysters (and the general populace from the addiction to the false emotions bottled in tea form that had been generated from the Oysters).

All the same, Jack was just a little bit uncomfortable with being treated as though he'd had a great accomplishment by winning the election. Becoming the leader of a place wasn't a prize to be won. It was a duty, and for sure an honor that he'd won. But an achievement? No. Making things better for those who lived here would be an achievement, if he could accomplish it.

So while he didn't feel that he 'deserved' a party, he was here nonetheless. His campaign manager had insisted that it was a good way to get to know those who had voted for him, and to start earning their trust as leader.

Jack straightened his tie and surveyed the reception hall. Waiters in tuxedos milled around with trays of champagne and h'ors d'oeurves while a few security guards watched the perimeter. A band struck up the first few chords of a song and a few people in formalwear had started to arrive,

Unfortunately, Jack thought that if the boy with the vividly colored spiky hair decided to crash, the security force wouldn't be able to keep him out. But since the last rally, no one had complained about him wearing his sword wherever he went.

"Yeah, it's back up and running. Thank you for everything you did to help with that," she said.

It wasn't the first time she'd thanked him, but she hadn't had the chance to thank him now that everything was done and up and running again.

She leaned against the bar and looked at him. She usually liked to jump straight to the point when there was an issue. Small talk didn't generally help things in her experience.

"Look, last time I saw you I really... wasn't myself." Now wasn't the time to bring up getting into fae wine. not with his issues with faeries and magic. "A lot of that night is fuzzy, but I'm sorry for whatever I did to upset you."

Dean smiled slightly at the thanks, then sighed at her apology. He glanced down the the way to the woman who looked like one of the many creatures he'd killed or helped kill. There was a slight shake of his head before he downed the rest of his drink. Yes, he was definitely a self medicater.

"Who knew you were such a happy drunk?" He smirked slightly. "And so handsy. What you did to me I would have to pay extra for over at the massage parlor." Okay, so that was a little mean, just a little.

"No, you did nothing. Just wrong place, wrong time. Your friend down there..." He sighed softly. "Fuck it. Why don't I get you two a drink?"

It wasn't that he was doing a complete 180. It wasn't that he was completely happy with his current situation in all that it was, but he couldn't stay angry. He could, but he really was too tired for it. He was okay with Sam right now, a different Sam, and no one was currently trying to kill him. So, maybe he could try giving some magic chick the benefit of the doubt. Plus, the closer she was the easier it would be to find her and gank her if she did turn out to be something that really should get dead. And she was hot. Why did they have to be hot? He'd yet to meet a truly unattractive woman here - excluding the ones who were underage.

Dinah shot Dean a glare in response to the joke.

"Funny," she said sarcastically. "I wasn't that out of it."

She followed his gaze over to Zatanna and caught Zee's eye, gesturing at her to join them.

"Zee said that Sam told her that she reminded you of someone. An ex or something?" Dinah wasn't exactly pressing for details, but she was going to put it out there.

It was hard for her to picture Dean in a serious relationship, or dealing with a broken heart. Not when she'd only seen him carrying on... well, she wasn't exactly sure what to call what he had with Jen and Murphy. It wasn't that he was a bad guy, and she honestly thought that he could have something real if he didn't seem to be more interested in something casual at the moment.

"No drink for me. That night was kind of the last straw when it came to drinking in the City for me," she said with a tight smile.

"A goddess. One that was killing people. One that Sam and I had to put down." Dean didn't sound all that happy about it. "Broke off with my girlfriend at the same time, found out Sam wasn't right - came back from Hell all kinds of wrong, and a goddess who was eating people. So, let's just say it wasn't an overly fun gig."

Yes, Dinah's magical friend was linked to a whole lot of not happy for the hunter. He had a lot of baggage, and he never claimed to be a free spirit, well, not usually.

"I don't have issues with my exes." Dean's voice was actually hurt or defensive. He didn't have that kind of situation. "Exes aren't one night stands." Before she could make any sort of comment on that one.

She saw them both look down at her in their turn and couldn't help but wonder what the hell they were talking about. Then Dinah gestured for her to join them and she smirked a little bit. "This ought to be interesting."

She picked up her glass of champagne as she slid from her barstool, careful to put most of her weight on her good ankle but took her time walking down the bar to Dinah and Dean. She was an old hand at working while wounded so the sprain that lingered was covered nicely and gracefully.

She had a wary but polite smile on her face when she reached them, making sure Dinah was closer to Dean than she was. The man had issues, and somehow she was one of them. Dork. "Hello, Dean. Having a nice time?"

"Hey, I didn't say you had issues with your exes," Dinah said defensively. "And it's not like I can talk about issues with exes anyway," she said with a shrug. "I still haven't even figured out how to act around Oliver and he's just the alternate reality counterpart to my ex."

So, maybe that one required more explanation, but that really was the best simplification she could give.

"I'm sorry about... the bad memories that were dredged up," she said. It was a bit lame, but there wasn't a whole lot else she could say in response to his explanation as to why Zatanna's face bothered him. She did reach over and give his hand a light squeeze.

Then she settled herself into a bar stool and gave Zatanna a reassuring smile. Hopefully this could be the start of the two of them making peace.

"And, I thought I had issues." Dean smirked slightly; he'd just keep drinking until it felt right, even if he knew that wouldn't fix it. It never fixed it. He ordered yet another drink.

"Peachy keen. Though the last inauguration I went to had little shrimp..." Dean paused as he spoke, his eyes following a tray of what he could only guess were the shrimp puffs he was going to joke about. His attention shifted back to the women. "I'll be damned. Didn't think they'd really have them." He smiled.

"This really is one classy party." He gave the women a wink before nodding to the bartender in thanks as his glass was set before him.

"Imagine that." Zee smirked, but it was pretty obvious she was being wary. He was being sarcastic. There were typically two reasons at least for a guy to be sarcastic. He was either trying to ditch them, which made no sense since she had been beckoned hither, or he was trying to be awkwardly polite. She would have to wait to see if there was a reason other than those two.

"I knew I wore this gown for a reason." She put her weight over her good leg which curved the dress in ways only delicate fabric and a decently sized price tag can.

She chuckled then looked at the bartender who was waiting to see if she wanted anything. "I'm a little sick of the bubbly stuff. Single malt whiskey. Neat." She had to give the guy credit. He didn't even bat a lash at a woman like her ordering a drink like that, just nodded his head and went to get her drink.

Dinah watched Dean for a minute. She didn't buy his reason for avoiding her. Not entirely. She was sure that his discomfort with Zatanna might be part of it, but she would hope that he wouldn't avoid her over just that.

She would ask him if she got the chance, but for now she was going to attempt to help Dean get to know Zee and see that she wasn't anything like the muderous goddess that she resembled.

Well, the drinks that they were both downing would either help or hinder that bonding. She was going to hope for the former.

"So, Zee, how's it coming along with starting up your act again?" she asked in an attempt to veer the conversation into more safe small-talk-type conversations.

Dean's brow rose slightly at the choice in poison; it had certainly caught his attention. He couldn't help that his eyes dropped to the "gown" what there was of it. It did look nice, and he could/would say the same thing for Dinah, too. He looked over at the bartender, giving a slight shrug. It wasn't like he was in control of what the women ordered.

"I worked a case once at some festival. A magician was using magic to get young - he killed off people to do it. Though the one guy, not the murdering magician, he was damn good with the slight of hand, and I know slight of hand." He was probably going to get his ass reamed for his most recent slight of hand. Well, his victim would probably try to ream him anyway.

"You do something with swords or cards? Sam loves magic acts." Dean wasn't the fondest of them, but he could respect a con who admitted to being a con. He understood the good show, what con wouldn't?

She restrained herself from sighing for the once again bad example some mystics give her and the rest of the magical community. And she should get a medal for not rolling her eyes about the swords or cards. Instead she gave Dinah a brief look then smiled politely to Dean.

"Actually I don't use any slight of hand. All of my tricks are magic which is kind of the point. Hiding in plain sight type thing, though my dad do the ring trick." Then she got a wry smirk on her face and lifted the hem of her skirt to show off the bandaged ankle. "And I took teleporting off of the act. It just doesn't go well here."

Dinah stifled a slight giggle at the mention of Zee's teleporting. She knew exactly how not well it had gone, especially given that they were at the party for the man whose shower she had landed in. The giggle died as she looked down at her bandaged ankle.

"What happened?" she asked.

She shot Dean a slightly nervous look. Perhaps bringing up the magic act was not the way to ease the tensions between those two. Then again, she wasn't sure what would break the ice and smooth things over. It wasn't as though she wanted Zatanna to have to hide what she could do, but she also couldn't expect Dean to be instantly comfortable with something that he'd clearly had a lot of bad experiences with.

Dean was getting tired of the attitude. What the hell did these people expect from him? The polite smile was returned with one of his own. He leaned slightly to look at the bandaged ankle, brow raised when Dinah asked the question. He didn't want the woman to hurt even if he wasn't a big fan; she was supposed to be a good guy after all.

"Teleport? 'Beam me up, Scotty'?" He beamed for a moment. "That kinda travel is trippy. Course, I was drunk at the time. Traveling by angel is a real bitch." He actually shuddered. Dean had had an interesting life after all, ladies.

She really wasn't trying to have an attitude. She just wasn't sure how well this was going to go talking to Dean after their first encounter. But, she toned it down a bit, relaxing into the conversation.

"No technology required. Just a backwards incantation." She wrinkled her nose in a look of disgust. "And I was trying to get an idea of how to port around town and I appeared right in front of some guy's pickup truck."

"You got hit by a truck?" she asked Zatanna, her brow furrowed in concern.

Dinah was all too aware of the tension. Zee was nervous, and had been retreating into snark just a bit. And Dean was... well, not all that comfortable either. She supposed that ambushing someone who she suspected of avoiding her wouldn't really have gone any other way.

It hurt, but maybe they hadn't ever been quite as close of friends as she'd thought. Sure, he'd been there for her when she'd really needed a friend. But maybe she'd read into that a little too much.

At any rate, she was really sick of the people in her life not getting along. If only it was as easy as just getting them all together and knocking some sense into them. Sadly, fighting crime was the only place where beating people up actually did the trick.

She pushed off the bar stool.

"You know, we should probably stop bugging Dean. Maybe get out there and dance?"

She gave Dean a forced smile.

Dean, of course, winced. He'd been hit by quite a few things, and yes, even a car on more than one occasion. He'd certain had his fair share of running away from cars.

"You get the license plate?" The voice was his more protective one; sure, he could see someone hitting her if she just blipped into existence, but that didn't mean the person could just get away with hitting people. "Or did you take care of it yourself?" Again, Dean'd been hit a few times. Usually he either was dead or just walked away - there were more important things than how much his body ached.

His brow lifted when Dinah suggested the gals go dance. He rested his hand on the bird's shoulder. "You don't gotta go on account of me. Plus, she just ordered her drink. Best thing for a banged ankle, other than a shitload of booze, is to put it up." He gave Dinah a soft smile; he did appreciate giving him an out even if he hadn't been making nice lately.

Dinah was edgy, nervous. Dean and Zee weren't making it easy for her, but that's what you get when you put two cats in the same room. They have to hiss, spit and circle each other before anything else.

"Gee, I'd have gone for alcohol and sex myself, but whatever works." Zee smirked knowing that was probably a shocking thing to hear come out of her, but that was kind of the point. Tension breaker. Had to be done.

The bartender brought her drink and handed it to her with another nod. She gave him a smile in thanks and took a sip before looking back to Dinah and Dean. "The guy took me to the hospital. I got the bones set then sat in a healing circle for most of the next day. The sprain is being stubborn and won't heal other than naturally so...just call me gimpy."
