To Us (Angels and Demons)
There is an invitation. The envelope it's in is made of a very thick, almost cardboard. Decorated with a design that looks like a mixture of feathers and flames. There is a seal on it, deep red wax, in the center, just a swirl. The paper is thinner, but no less well made. It's almost like touching cloth. The words upon it are done in a very beautiful script:

You are hereby invited to take part in a meeting in which you should discover very great things about what is around you.

Even if you choose to not accept this invitation, your daily movement around the City brings you to a building. There is only one door. The door is a very heavy, dark wood. It looks as if it might take a giant to open it, but it pulls free easily for you. When it shuts, it sounds almost as if a latch has clicked into place.

The room you are standing in is an odd shape. Triangular. The widest part is where the door is set in, and the other two walls meet opposite it to make the point. There is nothing in this room. No chairs, no table. No mirrors. No sign that anybody else will be able to get in here with you at all.

You will wait a while. When the last participant shows up, the walls in the center of the room will raise into the ceiling. From the floor will come a great table, laden with food and drink. Chairs will scoot out from where they were tucked away under it.

There are other people in this room with you.

This log is open to Angels and Demons only. If you are unsure if your character can be invited, please ask a mod before jumping in.

Remember, this can run concurrently to your other threads and stories. This is not a plot point, and you can do whatever you wish within it. You do not need to follow posting order or anything else. Just have fun!

Raven hadn't intended to accept the invitation. She was suspicious of all unexplained summons - she'd met good demons and awful human beings in her lifetime, and she tried to judge by action instead of origin, but mysterious requests for meetings? Those never turned out well. So? She was nervous as she crept in the room, shoulders rolled forward and her head ducked so that her hair masked the color of her eyes.

She expected some kind of horrible tableau. Instead? It was a triangular room. A triangular room with a buffet table. Huh.

Raven gaped a little. "...so we've been kidnapped to some kind of dinner party?" The teenager paused. "It was really just an invitation to a meeting? That is so. Weird."

Kidnapped? "I for one am here of my own will." Free will. It was a grand thing. Taking another bite, he forced his attention away from the food-though it really was a remarkable pudding-and focused on Castiel. For he knew by the familiar feel of him that was who it was. Though he couldn't have said quite how he knew. It was rather peculiar.

"What a disappointing condition for you. How did you lose your human form?" Aziraphale had once had his own form torn from him, and had been forced to inhabit other humans until Adam had graciously returned it to him. It had been a very unpleasant experience.

Crowley should be here. There were some of his kind here, and at least one of Aziraphale's. It was a bit uncomfortable, and he would prefer to have someone on his side...er, well not his side, of course, but someone he knew would have his back.

He looked toward the green demon. "He wants to know what this is. He's like me...he's an angel." Though Aziraphale had quickly gathered in their previous meeting that Castiel was less like him than one would expect from a brother angel.

"Come. If this is a dinner party, as the young lady..." Aziraphale knew well that she was no more a lady than he was a man, but that wasn't necessary to point out in present company. "...has put it, why don't we all just sit down and enjoy it?"

In the endless crystal tones of his kind, Castiel greeted Aziraphale, but it was a formal thing, with no warmth or friendliness, but rather a grave wariness. He felt no kinship with the other, and indeed, felt even more distant than the solid people with their feet on the floor than ever.

The white light slowly spun very gently in place, like some kind of overenthusiastic firefly, and the sense of uncertainty strengthened as Castiel tested what kind of wavelengths might be perceptible to Lorne's decidedly unique senses. He didn't have anything else to say but the silent question that could have been anything from "what's the point?" to "why are we here?"

“Always the optimist,” Crowley said, standing against one of the walls in a dark suit and sunglasses, with his hands tucked into the pockets of his pants. “Focusing on the dinner party part of it.” He had been there, silently watching for a few moments and analyzing his surroundings. The door had latched once he entered, shutting himself and everyone else he assumed as well.... inside. There was an angelic being to one side that seemed to refuse to take it's human form.

Curious.

There was a green man, which Crowley took definite interest in. Probably another demon from another realm. Then there was Raven, the young demon, who looked uncomfortable. And of course, Aziraphale... already helping himself to the food. As was to be expected.

“I rather think Raven is on to something with her kidnapping theory.” The demon pushed off away from the wall and started walking toward them. “Though who'd want to kidnap a bunch of angles and demons, erm?”

Leave it to Crowley to be hiding in the shadows. Never the less, Aziraphale was pleased to see him there. He moved over toward the Crowley, greeting him without using his name.

"There you are, you old serpent. Here," he moved in closer than necessary, giving the demon a wink, "try a piece of the calamari." In a hushed tone, he continued, "That angel is the one I was telling you about. The one that thinks he's looking for you." It probably wasn't the most sinless thing he'd ever done, choosing to warn the demon rather than alert the angel. But he and Crowley went way, way back, and this angel...Aziraphale still wasn't particularly comfortable with Castiel.

Heading back to the table, he filled himself a glass of wine. "Anyone else? I mean really, if he's right," he tipped his head in the direction of Crowley, "we might as well enjoy it. Must be a reason the City got us all together. Any ideas? Anyone?"

Lorne looked at the light, desperately trying to understand it. "It's like having words on the tip of your tongue," he said to it. "My spidey sense is tingling but I've got nothing, I'm sorry."

He sighed, and turned to look at the rest of the room.

"Angels?"

He looked at the people... well, obviously they weren't people, in the room. Lorne made himself a drink with what he found on the table.

"OH!"

He realized the thing in the corner was an angel. He didn't know there were angels! Lorne's demon-ness had less to do with God and more to do with location. He downed the drink he'd made.

Ideas? "So everyone's....?"

Angels and demons. He knew before he asked. "What good would it do to remove us all? What powers do we have?"

Castiel was, fortunately, not listening to Aziraphale or Crowley. Crowley struck him clearly as a thing apart, not quite angel, but he didn't immediately seem hell-ish, either. Perhaps it had been too long since he'd been down there, or Castiel was used to looking for quite different demons altogether. No, for the most part, Castiel was focused on Lorne, a being from another dimension. He hadn't any idea Lorne was actually called a demon, as he would hardly classify someone as much, not having an inherent problem with green skin.

Lorne's last word caused Castiel alarm. Removed?! He hadn't thought of it that way. The light made a sound like a dying rabbit in a huge gong, echoing off the psychic ears, and then he flashed at the door in an attempt to get out.

The noise was.... well, God, it was awful, and Lorne knew about awful noises. Karaoke made you an expert in that, whether you liked it or not.

"Whoa, whoa!"

The demon followed the light, wondering briefly if the light knew it looked like Tinkerbell.

"Hey! Spazzing out isn't gonna help." He frowned. "Though... I dunno what is."

“Oh settle down, Tinkerbell,” Crowley said to what Aziraphale had identified the angel who had been looking for him. An angel in his more pure form, for whatever reason. Without bothering to grab a plate, he grabbed a handful of grapes off the table. Might as well enjoy the food since they were going to be stuck there for awhile. “Peter Pan will still be out running amok when we all eventually get out of here.”

Where in this particular analogy, Peter Pan was that Winchester character and Tinkerbell... well, was the bit of light that was spazzing out.

“Besides, what good did losing your mind ever do, especially when you have very little mind left to lose?” Just like him to end a logical statement with an insult. He popped a grape in his mouth while grinning in the direction of the light formed angel.

Temporarily forgoing the opportunity for a rebuttal, the light that was Castiel flashed out of the room and, in milliseconds, he'd found Dean, who was taking a nap on his couch. After some confused flickering, he sought out his vessel, who was two rooms away, eating a sandwich and flipping morosely through bad daytime television.

In a blink, Castiel was back. He was still a bobbing white light, but his aura was now a calm, crystalline glimmer. He was still confused, but content to wait. He gave Crowley the equivalent of an angelic dirty look on some unseen wavelengths. He thought they were all being rather too calm about this.

"Oh, Amen," Lorne said. "I'm all for freak outs but I think calm's better right now."

The light bounced around and then vanished. Lorne watched, completely enthralled.

He sighed as it came back. "Now why can't I do fun things like that?" he asked.
