Just one of those days (weeks, years, whatever) (Zoe)
Things were finally starting to go well for Logan. School was still out for summer and he'd been working with Lorne. The guy was... different, but mostly in a fun way. He still hadn't quite gotten used to the demon make-up, but he'd definitely gotten used to having a regular paycheck. Not to mention that he was surprised to find he actually enjoyed the business of running a night club. Doing the books, making sure maintenance was taken care of, overseeing employees... all that stuff was something he actually felt like he could do, and actually enjoyed.

It was... odd, to have a sort of purpose. To actually have to work for a paycheck. Make that, work for a paycheck that actually covered more than the bare minimum he'd been making while working in the cafeteria at the university.

Perhaps things were looking up, he mused as he made his way home from Caritas early one morning. He wasn't being particularly cautious about his surroundings or being out so late, as he still suffered from the delusions of invincibility that most men his age had. Of course, getting shot and walking away without a scratch earlier that year didn't help with those delusions.

So when three shadowy figures fell into step behind him, Logan didn't hear them coming. He didn't realize anyone was there until he turned his head slightly, just in time to catch a sharp blow from something cold and metal. A gun, he reflected as he crumpled to the ground.

"Give me your wallet and any valuables you have on you," a voice growled as Logan looked up into the sharp glint of silver metal, pointed directly at him.

He chuckled darkly.

"You have got to be fucking kidding me," he said. "I've had money in this City for all of two weeks, and this happens?"

Yeah, Logan wasn't the best at keeping his tongue in check, even when his life was on the line.

With one knocked out, the Batman focused on the other two. There was a good deal of bobbing and weaving, and avoiding things that could certainly hurt. A batarang or two was used to take care of the man with the gun, at least get the gun of the idiot's hand. No one needed a gun. Well, Zoe didn't mind guns as long as they weren't aimed at her; the Batman usually avoided them. It was one of the few weapons Alfred had avoided offering the Batman's alter ego as possibilities. Zoe was quickly beginning to consider something with a tranquilizer.

There was a grunt as a fist caught the Batman's stomach, and thankfully, the grunt sounded very masculine. It was almost Bruce Wayne's when he was in Batman mode, or more when he wasn't in Bruce Wayne mode. The Batman quickly retaliated with a jab to the ribs followed by one to the throat. The idea was to incapacitate without killing. Not Zoe's first instinct, but the Batman wasn't that kind of vigilante/do gooder. Not usually. Down went the second mugger.

Now, all the Batman had to do, if the first guy who was groaning on the ground didn't get up, was take care of the gun owner, who was currently looking for said gun.

Logan spotted the gun just as the third mugger did. He kicked it out of the way before the man could get to it.

Hey, he could help... somewhat. He looked over at the two fallen thugs and then took a step back as the third mugger advanced on him, ready to fight if needed.

Logan didn't have to defend himself for long if at all. With the third mugger distracted, the Batman was able to dispatch him with a one two bit, to the kidney then the head. It wasn't fair, but really, who said this had to be fair?

With all three men down, the Batman pulled out plastic ties to bind up hands and ankles. Now and then the Batman would look up at the victim, the one "he" just saved. There was something familiar about him...

The Batman stopped binding the bad guys and stared at the guy. Deep inside the suit that hid just who was in it, even the gender, Zoe mentally cursed. The boy seemed to have been a reader; she was going to have to talk to Alfred about telepaths and finding a way to bypass that with the suit. She watched the kid before returning to the task at hand.

"You shouldn't walk alleys alone if you're not going to bother being aware of your surroundings." The voice was definitely not the Batman's real alter ego.

Logan continued to stare, his mouth hanging slightly open. It was an actual, living, breathing, ass-kicking Batman.

"So you're,,, actually Batman?" he asked in a tone that was part disbelief, part excited boy who'd never quite outgrown his cartoons,

"Yes." The Batman moved from one mugger to the next binding each in the same fashion, quick, efficient, and probably painful for the jackass when he woke up. The Batman slowly stood, hands closing into fists for a moment before they relaxed at "his" sides.

"Who are you?" The Batman's voice was flat; there were no head tilts, no gestures for inflection, that might give away who was inside. It was almost robotic, mechanical.

Batman... he didn't feel drunk. Certainly not like that time with the Enterprise at any rate. And yet, here he was, face to face with freaking Batman.

"I'm Logan," he offered, as though his name would really be important to Batman. "Logan Echolls," he corrected as an afterthought.

He looked down at the three would-be muggers, then back to Batman.

"Um. Thanks for saving my ass."

"It's what I do, citizen." The Batman spoke so very calmly. "Trying to keep the City streets safe."

There was a soft groan from one of the bound muggers; the Batman moved rather quickly, sending the man back under with a thump to the back of his head.

"You should not walk alone like this, and call the police to have these men taken in, Logan Echolls." That name would be stored away; Zoe needed to do some research. She had to make sure he couldn't make the connection between herself and the Batman.

Logan stared after Batman, then nodded slightly.

"Uh, yes sir."

He pulled out his phone, not really wanting Batman to, say, hit him with a batarang for ignoring orders.

Unless, perhaps, he was allowed to keep said batarang, That would be pretty awesome.

There would be no batarangs left behind; the Batman wasn't letting those get away, not when they could lead back to the alter ego somehow.

Without a word, just a slight nod, the Batman lifted a gun with a grappling hook above "his" head and shot. The Batmule would be waiting, the louder thrum and rumble of engines revving up for more power could be heard. With a tug on the line to make sure it was secure, the Batman was soon whisked up into the darkness where the ride waited.

Logan Echolls was now on someone's list. Zoe was beginning to breathe a little easier because it seemed the kid was certainly not a reader. That or he was one hell of an actor.

Logan was still staring after the Batplane flew away.

"Holy shit," he muttered and found a nearby wall to lean against.

"Holy shit," he repeated.
