Hide & Seek (tag: Willow)
When Jeannie frowned, she did it with her entire face. There was no halfway or tentativeness in the action, her expressions were a clear indication of exactly what she was feeling. Unless she was attempting to be sneaky, and even then, occasionally the slyness somehow managed to paint her features with her thoughts. In short, when Jeannie frowned, it meant she was displeased.
Today, that was an understatement. Far be it from Jeannie to speak badly about her master, whoever it was currently, but then she was not speaking it. She was thinking it. Frankly, she was just a little frustrated with the way things had been going lately. There seemed to be a bit of a… problem when she used her powers sometimes. And she was almost positive that her new master was somehow responsible.
For instance, this was definitely not where she wanted to be. At least she did not think so. She had been attempting to help Spike. It should not be this difficult, should it? Especially since her master told her to. She had been trying to help him ever since, but it had not been working.
She had taken a moment to visit the Bellows’ house, which turned out not to be the Bellows’ house at all, and she had met a nice lady who was dressed as a cat for a costume party. Jeannie had been very happy that she could help her. But as nice as the lady was, it was not the same sort of obligation she felt to aid Spike.
Spike had been helping her since she arrived in this strange place. He had looked out for her, been kind to her, and he had once even told her to cover her eyes so that she would not see something unpleasant. He was a very sweet man, and all he had asked in return was that Jeannie help him find his friend. Instead, she had taken him to a small, colorful, strange woman that liked to hit things and made a toaster. She definitely owed him.
But this…
This was not what she had wanted when she set out today to fulfill her offer to Spike. She was looking for his fluffy person, and Jeannie could not understand how she could be in this place. The very name made Jeannie shudder. The Magic Box. It sounded ominous to a djinn, and a bit dangerous, and she did not want to go inside. She did not!
But there was always the possibility that the fluffy person Spike wanted to find truly was within. When she had concentrated and blinked, this was where she had shown up. So once again, it seemed her new master was directing her actions. She could not, however, help the small hesitation before reaching for the door. Glancing up the street to the stop light, she saw the lighted sign halfway down the pole light up with the symbol of a person walking.
Jeannie sighed deeply. That was as good as a verbal command, and she could no longer put it off. With a deep frown etched on her face, she opened the door and stepped inside the shop. Her nose wrinkled as soon as she got a whiff of the air inside. It was heavy with magic and that did not please the genie at all. But a command was a command. “Hello?”
