Caged. (Open!)
Even though she'd broken free days prior, Wanda still felt a little like an animal in a cage. As a very young child, back when her family life had resembled something approaching normal, her nanny had taken Wanda and her twin brother to the zoo. She'd been in possession of a better attitude back then, but her empathy had been lacking. She'd enjoyed looking at the animals and, when they hadn't moved to her satisfaction, she'd been happy to tap on the glass.

These days, the very idea of harassing something in a prison made her nauseous and angry. It was a sick, queasy feeling that she vaguely recognized as shame. She felt like the animal in the zoo enclosure, and Wanda strongly suspected that the face on the other side of the glass felt very little empathy or shame over what it had done to her.

Oh, there'd been attempts at making amends, but Wanda hadn't accepted the overtures. After her escape from Arkham, there'd been nowhere to go; keys appeared in her pocket, but she refused to use them. It felt like a trap. Instead, she'd slept in parks and abandoned buildings and had made use of the facilities in public recreation centers. Not a comfortable existence, but she was used to discomfort.

Unsurprisingly (given her hatred of feeling trapped), the new morning found Wanda out-of-doors, seated on a bench at a bus stop. She looked pale and unhappy and she was busy slowly destroying a croissant, which she plucked apart and tossed carelessly to a small group of pigeons. She wanted to destroy something. It wouldn't make her feel any better, not really, but lashing out was what she did. If she felt hurt or like she'd lost control? She broke something.

The croissant-tearing increased in pace. A nearby mailbox creaked abruptly and Wanda drew in a hiss of breath. Her head snapped up and she turned wide eyes on the source of the sound. The creaking stopped.

"Yeah, Scarlet Witch..." Dean didn't say what Scarlet Witch made him think because he wasn't that much of an jerk. Plus, she was just a kid, a female kid. A female kid with a real attitude. "Wanda. Wanda's cool. Makes me think of Jamie Lee Curtis." Somehow he managed to make that non-pervy, well, not much anyway.

He coughed at the nickname. It was a good one, and he'd have to remember it for later. She could read him as shocked that she dare call him anything, but the nickname did earn her a little respect, even if she was coming off as a bit of a brat.

"Well, Wanda." The name was said slowly and with more emphasis than it needed. "Name's Dean." First names only seemed like a good plan. "Just walked out of a place and here I was in this wonderful city we call..the City. It's a damn exciting ride, isn't it?" He left out the bit about a demon and an angel and the drinking. He never liked to tell kids he drank.

"Jamie Lee Who?"

No, Dean. The intention was not to make you feel old - Wanda had a genuine look of confusion on her face. To be fair, her movie-viewing days had stopped at the age of eleven. She'd just started moving into PG-13 territory. A Fish Called Wanda was hardly something Erik Lehnsherr would've allowed his children to watch.

"Sounds like what happened to me, except without the stopover in the madhouse." Which only made Wanda angry. Her fingers curled around the edge of the bench so that she couldn't accidentally hex something - why was it always an asylum with her? "You really did luck out. Asylums are--"

She stopped. Too personal by far. "They suck. A lot."

Dean winced. The girl didn't know who Jamie Lee Curtis was? That was painful. He liked her in her lighter stuff; he didn't feel the need to watch horror that often because he tended to live the real thing. He liked the comedy and the...other stuff.

"Curtis. She's an actress, good one. Look her up. Look up the flick A Fish Called...Wanda; you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll break a smile that may not break your face." There was the smirk again. "Yeah, I know about asylums, hospitals, Hell, ghosts, demons, rabid fans, conventions, crazy shit that shouldn't happen to ...well, maybe should happen to some of my enemies."

"Look. Not that I'm offering to take you in and adopt you like some sorta after school special because I'm too young and pretty to have an adopted daughter your age. But..." Dean patted himself down and found a piece of paper and a pencil. He jotted down something before offering it to her. "Take this. Not that I expect you to do it, but you get hassled, you gimme a call. And don't gimme that shit about you can take care of yourself."

Wow. Here came words Wanda never thought she'd say. "You're a nice enough guy, Dean, but you're a little strange. Has anyone ever told you that before?" Living with mutants meant never having to say 'you're weird,' but apparently there was a first time for everything.

"I'm not going to ask about your ghosts and demons and conventions. Not. Gonna. Ask."

Wanda put her hands up to emphasize the point. "And it's okay - all the guys in my family are either cowards or genocidal maniacs, so I'm not looking to pick up an adopted anything. I'll give you a call, though."

Well. Probably not, but it was a nice gesture and the guy seemed dead-set. Plus, he wasn't asking for anything in return, which never happened. Ever. Almost made her want to offer.

"And if you ever add 'angry mutants,' to that crazy list of yours, you give me a call."

She didn't have any paper, but Wanda did have the City-issued phone. She yanked it out and went to the 'info' screen to pull up its number. Then, in a move that was perhaps too trusting - unless, like Wanda, you were overconfident in your speed with a hex - she leaned forward to do a swap. The device for Dean's scrap of paper.

"Yeah, I've heard that one before." Dean hadn't exactly heard it in those words, but he'd gotten the look and the feeling from more than one person. The world was full of strangeness and oddities, and he lived it everyday. Getting told that he was "a little strange" by a chick who mentioned mutants, well...

"Maybe your family and my family hung out sometime." Not that his family was made of genocidal maniacs, yet they weren't exactly the most functional, normal, stable, or even sane family.

"Angry mutants. And I'm a little strange." He smirked; he didn't add that talking about mutants, no matter what sort of mutant, was more than a little off, maybe even should earn someone a place in a funny farm.

His brow rose at the proposed swap He wasn't expecting it; he'd roll with it though. The older Winchester took out his own mobile. They looked similar, so if he missed the crazy welcome wagon, he didn't miss the equipment handout. Without looking at the keys, he'd gotten to know his phone that well, he tapped in the number showing on her phone. And, if things worked the way they should, her phone would start ringing, with a number identical to the one on the paper.

"You laugh now, but it's not so funny when Mystique's up in your face." Wanda gave him a look. It was an amused look - of course he could joke. He hadn't met the crafty shapeshifter.

As for being strange? She shrugged. "Can't help the genetics. We are what we are." Wanda was talking about being a mutant, but she could've just as well been speaking to families in general. Multitasking. Excellent.

When the phone rang, she pulled it back and hit the button to save his number.

Click. She shut the device back off and stowed it in a pocket. She was feeling a little better - maybe it was safe to go inside. Maybe Wanda wouldn't have to worry about accidentally blowing something up.

"I'm gonna head off. Good luck figuring this place out."

"I'll take your word for it." Dean would for now as far as whoever this Mystique was. Sounded like a bad stripper name...or a really good one. Of course, if Wanda had mentioned that Mystique was a crazy shapeshifter, Dean had more than one story about crazy and shapeshifting.

"Yeah, can't help genetics." Dean nodded, saving her number into the phone. He didn't get how it could work now, but not when he wanted to talk to certain people. Not that he disliked talking to Wanda, but she wasn't Sam, Bobby, or Cas. Probably one of the few times Dean would rather talk to one of them instead of a chick, well, a chick who didn't seem deadset on killing him anyway.

"Yeah, you too." Dean didn't get up. He thought he'd wait for the bus; even if he didn't get on it, he'd still get some information from it. He hoped.
