why does it always rain on me? [ open! ]
It always seemed to rain on days when she was running late.

Bella had a growing suspicion that this City place had picked up on her distaste for rainy weather, and simply let the heavens pour down upon her whenever they had the chance. Well, they picked a perfect day to do so, and it wasn't like her day could get any worse...or could it?

She'd slept through her alarm clock, spilt orange juice on her jeans, slipped on the sidewalk (well, that was actually something normal for her, but it really wasn't helping!), and now the back half of her jeans were totally wet through. Smooth, real smooth, Isabella Swan.

At least she could rely on her truck. This baby may look like a fossil, but it was the most reliable machine she'd ever driven, thanks to her good friend Jacob Black. Yup, everything was was going to be fine now! and --

A slight bump distracted her from her thoughts, and the truck veered slightly.

"Oh man" Bella groaned, praying that it was nothing major. "Just let me get to Bio on time."

It didn't take long for her to admit defeat. Eventually she pulled over, reluctantly hopping out of her beloved truck and into the pouring rain, to investigate. A faint hissing sound, as well as a sinking tyre pretty much said it all.

Great, even her truck had abandoned her in her hour of need. What next!

They made quite a pair, trotting down the street, wet and mud-spattered. The rain was hard enough to have plastered Blind Seer's thick fur to his skin, to say nothing of Firekeeper's stained cotton blouse. Had she known that the several days that she and Blind Seer spent in the park would contain rain, she would have worn her leathers.

"We should find somewhere to dry off a bit before we make it back to Charlie and Ted's house," Blind Seer said, sneezing through the rain. "I doubt they would appreciate having dirty water and mud everywhere."

Firekeeper grunted an assent. "Be on the lookout for an overhanging or some similar structure. I doubt any humans wish for us to make a mess of their businesses and dwellings."

Blind Seer trotted slightly ahead of her and paused, sniffing. Firekeeper did not bother asking him what he smelled, as she saw it too: a large vehicle ("car", she had learned they were called, they came in all shapes and sizes and smelled terrible) with a miserable-looking human girl next to it. "Do you need help?" she called, deciding that the girl posed no threat.

Blind Seer's tail drooped. He was never going to get dried off at this rate.

Bella had been kind of staring at her rapidly deflating tyre, hoping it would somehow magically jump off and fix itself (hey this was a strange city, anything could happen - right?). But alas, it merely deflated itself even more. She briefly weighed up the other options in her head, the obvious being that she could attempt to change it herself. But she didn't know the first thing about changing car tyres! this would be something that Charlie or Jake would do for her...

That, and with her knack for getting hurt, she'd break a bone or two in the process.

She looked up to see the girl who had called out to her, and blinked in surprise. "Um, sure" Bella shrugged slightly, trying to brush the drenched hair from her face. "Are you any good with flat tyres?"

Firekeeper cocked her head to one side, trying to puzzle that one out. Finally, she exhaled in an exasperated snort. "I cannot make heads nor tails of it."

Blind Seer snuffled. "I'm afraid I won't be of much help, either. What on earth is a 'tyre'?" He hung back, unwilling to approach the car. Neither he nor Firekeeper were positive of how they worked--it was on the same principle as a cart, though without visible means of anything pulling it, and he had no wish of being suddenly trampled. And they perpetually smelled of burning things.

Firekeeper edged a little closer, shaking water out of her eyes. "What is? Do not know what you mean."

Bella frowned slightly, as she studied the girl (and her companion), as they came closer into view. The girl didn't look like she was around from here - but then again, she supposed 'here' would be a very loose term in The City. Everyone seemed to be from one strange place, or another. But the way the girl spoke, it almost sounded if English was relatively new to her. Perhaps she was from another country?

She shook her head, realizing that she'd been over analyzing things again. Plus she was staring, which wasn't polite at all.

"It's...a wheel?" She tried to explain a little more clearly. "Its kind of what helps my truck move. I must of punctured it on my way to school this morning."

Firekeeper certainly didn't mind the staring; people did it often enough. She took her time sizing up the girl and the situation. She didn't always insist on charging into a situation without thinking.

"Wheel" she knew, so the "tyre" must be what you called them when they were black and puffy looking, like an inflated bladder. Except for the one, which was indeed flattened. She edged closer, keeping an eye on the car--truck, this one was called--for sudden forward or backwards movement. Behind her, Blind Seer whined in concern. She glanced down at the wheel, wondering if perhaps it was like changing the wheel of a cart, something she had seen Derian do many times.

To her dismay, the mechanisms seemed only vaguely similar. This was all metal and confusion up close, a completely alien device. She hopped back, grateful to be a respectable distance away from the truck and shook her head. "Replace?" she suggested, positive she sounded like an idiot and thoroughly annoyed with that knowledge. "Extra wheel? Cannot make puffy again if punctured. Is correct?"

Rain, rain, rain. Bella was soaked to the bone now, but of course it didn't really matter. It was going to be one of 'those' days, and when that happened, it was best to concede.

But back to the truck now, the girl seemed to have a fair idea of what she was talking about. There was something about her though - something she couldn't quite put her finger on.

"I have a spare in the back, I don't think I have the tools though" She recalled Charlie nagging her to do something about that. Of course with Forks being as small as It was, she'd never thought she'd be stuck in this kind of...situation.

"I'm Bella, by the way." She introduced herself, somewhat awkwardly. It was really the only thing left to do when it was pouring with rain, and when your truck had a flat tyre.

Firekeeper shrugged. Without the proper tools, it was wasted effort to try. "Can walk, then. Or find someone with tools." Being her primary method of transportation, she had absolutely no problem with walking anywhere, even in a downpour like this one. She'd faced worse and made it through just fine; surely someone else of roughly analogous age should be able to as well.

"Or she could just sit inside of the 'truck' until the rain stops," suggested Blind Seer behind her.

She turned to punch him lightly in the shoulder. "Or that." "Or could sit in truck and wait. I am..." And there was that question again, of which name to use, human or wolf. "Lady Blysse Kestrel. He is Blind Seer."
