i_jest A whole new world (open, Batfamily maybe?)
He was healed. He had Peter to thank for helping with that. And maybe the City too. Who knew. But there weren't any bruises left, and whatever had been broken was whole now. He was able to wander around and do things without a struggle, and the boys were no longer sniffing around him like he was possible food.
That had been more than mildly unnerving.
Plus there had been all those wonderful explosions, and that had lifted his spirits even more. It was amazing what a good ruckus could do for a guy when he was feeling blue.
Now there was just the question of where the hell Harley had gone off to. He felt like he deserved a good tormenting of her, after so much time, and her abandoning him when he was right in the middle of building the Body Part Monument to the Giant Naked Statue. The girl needed a good beating, and he was ripe to give it to her.
Even that couldn't spoil his good mood, though. And Jack wandered the city with a spring in his step and a whistle on his lips.

Babs drove down from a more than disturbing visit to the new Arkham Asylum. She'd had to go visit it. It was her job and passing it off to one of the other members of the family would be a shirking of responsibility that she wasn't willing to fall into the habit of.
The fact that The City now had a fully stocked insane asylum called Arkham disturbed her ever so much.
She pulled her van up to the curb a little ways down from the supermarket, feeling the need for comfort food. Some serious comfort food, ice cream, chips, and junk food. She could go home then, and enter everything she'd discovered onto her computers in peace. Babs got out of the van, bag in hand, and headed down the street.

Jack was thinking about food and turning in to the grocery parking lot when he spied something that looked awfully familiar.
Oh it couldn't be.
It just couldn't be!
He quickened his step and came up beside the wheelchair, taking it in.
Oh, it was!
"Babsy! Baby! Darling!" He squeeled at her, sticking a foot out in front of her wheel to stop her and leaning over her. "It's been too long!"
From: [info]i_seeall Date: 03/23/2006 18:06:48
Babsy? Oh God, she hadn't managed to run into that Pepper woman Bruce had--
Or not. Pepper would have been welcomed. Babs' eyes moved from the foot nudged up against her chair, up the gangly body, and to the pale white face looking down at her.
"Not long enough," she met his eyes directly. She'd been schooled a long time ago how not to show fear in front of her enemies. "I'd heard you were in The City."
From: [info]i_jest Date: 03/23/2006 18:09:59
"Oh yes. I've been having a wonderful time so far." He grinned at her. "Now I run into you! It can only get better."
Jack nudged her shoulder.
"Come on and show old Jacky Boy your scars. I haven't gotten a chance to see them real good and up close in a while."
He leaned down and put her wheel lock on but kept his foot in place. Added measures.

"In front of everyone, Jack?" Babs asked, pushing him away. "What would people say?" Her hand went down to the wheel, but with Jack up against her she couldn't completely reach the latch for the lock.
"Maxine wasn't enough, then?" She looked back up at him. "I remember you used to at least take breaks in between senseless beatings."
From: [info]i_jest Date: 03/23/2006 18:22:56
"Oh, pshaw." Jack flopped a hand at her. "Nobody will say anything. Or if they do, I'll shoot them."
He liked that she was fighting back. Feisty!
"It's a new place, love, a new me. I don't feel like taking a break. And besides, I did. I took a nice break. And you should tell Maxine that her stupid fucking boyfriend is going to pay for what he did to me, and he's going to pay heavily. I don't take kindly to being left bleeding on the sidewalk, you know."
From: [info]i_seeall Date: 03/23/2006 18:30:17
Babs pursed her lips and kept her hand planted firmly on Jack's chest in attempt to hold him back. "Max told me about that. Also told me you're still not sane enough to realise you deserved it," she said, thinking back to the conversation she and Max had had about the beating Jesse had given Jack. Babs hadn't been at all upset, especially when for at least a few weeks she and Bruce had been able to concentrate on other things.
"What do you want, Jack?" Babs asked him. She looked into his eyes again. "Because I'm going to have to get back to work."
From: [info]i_jest Date: 03/23/2006 18:39:33
That pissed him off. Saying he deserved the beating. Jack moved to backhand her, but stayed his hand an inch from her face. Then he smiled.
"I just wanted to say hello and see the scars. Nothing more than that."
He thought. "Unless you'd like a new one. I'd surely like to give you a new one. Maybe one right .... over your heart. So you could see it all the time. I could carve my name there like ... like a signature. Like. Signing my art. What do you think? Just a quick thing. You're up for it, right?"
Jack pulled out a small pen knife and flicked it open.
From: [info]i_seeall Date: 03/23/2006 18:48:05
She didn't travel with a staff. She owned two, one in her office in the tower, and one that sat in her room at home. After Jack shot her, she'd mastered the art of staff fighting and practiced that mode of defense often. The only problem was, carrying around a staff tended to be somewhat cumbersome.
Perhaps it was time to add something collapsable to her purse. Hand to hand combat wasn't going to do much good in a situation like this.
"Hard as it might be for you to believe, Jack, I don't need another one." She eyed the knife warily but stayed outwardly calm. "Thanks for the offer, anyway. And sorry, but I'm not showing you anything either."
From: [info]i_jest Date: 03/23/2006 18:50:43
"Shame." He said, putting the knife away.
They were very close to the store, and he didn't want anybody to ruin his fun.
"Next time, Barbra. Next time I'll see those scars and give you a new one. Don't fret. It'll happen."
Jack leaned in closer to her and kissed the side of her face, holding her in place with two hands while he did so, and then let go violently.
"TOODLES!" He said, waving, and moving his foot at the same time, and releasing the wheel lock.
From: [info]i_seeall Date: 03/23/2006 19:05:06
Her cheek seemed to burn when Jack placed his lips there. Babs gave a look of revulsion as he kissed her, not even noticing when he first readied to push her back.
When his hands left her shoulders, it was almost as if she was getting off easily. Too easily. But then she was flying backwards, straight back into a sign post stuck in against the curb. She hit her head, but not too badly and was able to look back up immediately after she stopped.
"You're not helping your case," she called out at his retreating back. "That's two of us now, and it's not looking good for you. There's a nice cell waiting for you up on the hill." There was. She'd checked.
Her eyes flicked back over to the grocery store. Suddenly shopping didn't seem like such an appealing idea anymore.
From: [info]i_flyfar Date: 03/24/2006 16:22:13
She had seen the woman in the wheelchair fly back into the sign post. Koriand'r was tempted to go after the man she was talking to, but her arms were full of groceries.
"Did he hurt you?" Koriand'r asked the woman. She shifted her groceries into one arm rather easily. She could go after him, if she had to. Kory was fairly sure she knew where the jail was now. At least...she knew where it was when she last flew over the city.
From: [info]i_seeall Date: 03/24/2006 17:48:43
Babs moved her hands to the wheels of her chair and pushed herself away from the sign post, managing to smile for outward appearances.
"I'm fine, really it was..." Babs did a double take when she finally took the time to look at the helpful girl standing by her. Not because she thought the orange skin and red hair was odd, but because she knew her. It was Koriand'r. Starfire. A bit younger looking than the Kori she knew, but it was her none the less. Babs would know that voice anywhere.
She had to keep herself from smiling too broadly after realising who it was. While she knew Kori, Kori did not know her and for the sake of keeping Oracle's identity secret, Babs wanted to keep it that way.
Instead, she smiled normally, bringing herself back onto the sidewalk. "I'm really fine. Ex-boyfriends can be a handfull once they track you down. He didn't hurt me though."
From: [info]i_flyfar Date: 03/24/2006 18:00:20
It was good that the woman could smile and manuever herself back onto the sidewalk properly, but she had a feeling that she was hiding something. Koriand'r frowned and glanced back in the direction the man had gone.
"Ex-boyfriend?" she asked. Kory looked back at the woman in the wheelchair. She was skeptical, but it wasn't her place to say anything else. After a moment's pause, she held out her hand.
"My name is Koriand'r," she said. She took on a more amiable expression, smiling. "I'm going to walk you back to your car."
From: [info]i_seeall Date: 03/24/2006 18:09:01
"Oh, thank you, it's appreciated," Babs said, even though it really wasn't necessary. She was pretty sure Jack wasn't coming back. Not until later at least.
"That was my ex-boyfriend," she lied, wheeling herself on a bit more. "He gets rather violent sometimes, hence him being my ex. I wasn't expecting to see him around."
From: [info]i_flyfar Date: 03/24/2006 18:15:51
"Have you talked to the police?" Kori asked. It was an obvious question, but sometimes people didn't bother. Koriand'r was worried that the woman took this so calmly.
From: [info]i_seeall Date: 03/24/2006 18:28:13
Babs smiled and let out a small laugh. "Yes, he's been locked up before, for all the good it does."
She looked up at Kori, noting her expression. She shook her head. "Don't worry about it. Jack won't be looking for me for awhile now. He's had his fun." Besides, she was going to extra careful for now.
"Still, I'm glad you came along. A little extra help has never hurt," Babs said. "Who do I owe this help to, by the way?"
From: [info]i_flyfar Date: 03/24/2006 18:54:01
"Koriand'r," she said, again. Maybe the woman was more shaken than she let on, if she hadn't heard her the first time. "You can call me Kory. It's easier."
From: [info]i_seeall Date: 03/24/2006 19:06:03
"Lovely name. Foreign perhaps?" Babs smiled. She'd heard the first time and when she realised that she frowned to herself, but passed it off as just brief forgetfulness. "Where are you from?"

"Not Earth," Kory said. It was a pleasantly delivered statement of the obvious. She avoided giving information about Tamaran. Not that it mattered, it didn't exist after all, but she didn't really want to talk about her homeworld(s) right now. Or ever, perhaps.
"What about you? What is your name? Where are you from?"
From: [info]i_seeall Date: 03/30/2006 19:01:06
"I'm Barbara Gordon," Babs said, smiling at Kori. "I'm from Gotham City, it's nice to meet you." Realising that this was indeed the formal introduction, she held out her hand to Kori, offering to shake.
"Have you lived here long? In The City, I mean."
