When her feet touched the ground, Koriand'r knew she had made a mistake.
She looked down the empty street at the flickering, neon Pepsi sign. This was not where she had planned on landing. This was not the destination she'd seen growing closer on her descent through the atmosphere. Shadows stretched from the corners of tall buildings that looked only vaguely familiar. Koriand'r did not understand. What city was this? And how had she made a mistake?
A few people passed on the other side of the street, but their faces looked unkind. She would not bother them. Earth was good about giving information and Kori knew there were maps and television sets in almost every little store in a heavily populated area. Maybe if she found a little store, someone might be able to tell her where she was.
She started off towards the Pepsi sign. That was a drink she remembered. It was all too sweet and fizzy for her, but some of the other Titans seemed to have had no problem drinking entire bottles of it.
The thought of her friends made her walk a little faster. The sooner she found out where she was, the sooner she'd be able to find them. It would be a relief to see faces from her past that weren't annihilated, dead...gone.

A man with a paper bag full of alcohol met her at the doorway. Behind a pair of dark sunglasses, Crowley blinked at her appearance, and then smirked just a bit.
"You're new here too, aren't you?" he asked, looking her over. Interesting. The skin, the hair. The... clothing. The more skin.

Kori blinked at him before offering a smile back. His reaction was normal for an Earth-person. Her dressing style had always been "different" to them.
She stepped out of his way, since he was coming outside. Maybe he could tell her where she was, since he knew that she was new. Obviously he hadn't heard of the Titans if he didn't know her. He couldn't be from the city she'd come back to Earth to visit.
"I am new...I think. Could you tell me where I am?" Kori asked. "I think I made a mistake."

Crowley leaned against the doorway, not exiting yet, but giving her enough room to be able to slip past. "You're in the City," he said. "The City, no state, county, country, or planet to reference from, but it seems to draw heavily on" and here he wrinkled his nose in distaste, "America."
From: [info]i_flyfar Date: 03/01/2006 21:49:03
"The City?" Kory asked. "But I am very certain that I am on Earth. I know how to get to it, I did not make a mistake with that."
Kory didn't believe she needed to go inside the little shop now that she had some sort of citizen for reference. He wasn't making her any less confused however.
"I'm sorry. I don't understand." She looked to the bag. "I can help you carry that, if you would not mind explaining."
From: [info]i_lovemybentley Date: 03/02/2006 08:19:00
"Ah, you're really not from around here." Crowley smiled like a snake. "I thought I was on Earth, too. I like Earth. Been there longer than anyone else, really. But this doesn't seem to be it. At least, it sure isn't the one I'm used to."
At her offer, he glanced at the bag and shook his head. "Nah. I know an angel who'd be downright appalled if he found out I let a woman carry my booze."
He nodded to where the Bentley was parked. A few people on the street had gotten too close to it. One had even tried to touch it. Stupid mortals. He wouldn't be using that hand normally for a few days. Now, there was a small crowd huddled against the building the Bentley was parked beside, looking at the car with a kind of horrified awe.
"I'm just parked there. Need a lift anywhere? I can help you get a place to stay, if you need one." Screw what Barbara had said about the City providing. Crowley could provide better accomodations than the City had 'provided' the preacher with.

She shrugged when he declined her offer to carry the bag (or rather booze), and although she probably she should've been offended somehow considering she was far stronger than any Earth man, Kory didn't say anything.
Kory looked at the car was and the way people were frightened of it. Maybe she would've declined if she hadn't felt the need to know where she was.
"Would you know of a Justice League? Or Titans Tower?" she asked.
If not then, perhaps she would need a place to stay. After all, she had no currency to trade with on Earth or anywhere else.

Well, Crowley couldn't exactly be considered an Earth man. More like a man-shaped being who resided on the Earth. But Kory had no way of knowing that.
Crowley arched an eyebrow at her question. "Nope. But it's been a few decades since I was last in America. Maybe something got dragged here that I just haven't seen yet."
Though the titles intrigued him. Justice League? Sounded like some do-right organization. Crowley suddenly wondered if the angel had been neglecting their Arrangement, and had let some Justice afficiation grow over in America. Then he wondered why Below hadn't sent him there to tempt the righteous. Then he remembered that Below was probably still sore with him after the whole incident with the Antichrist.
Then again, maybe it had absolutely nothing to do with him in the first place. He liked that idea. It gave him the most room to stretch.

Kory grew a little less hopeful about finding her friends here, wherever here was. It didn't even have a proper name. She would have to find her way out of this city, somehow.
"I do need somewhere to stay if you have not heard of such things," Kory replied. "At least until I can find the way back to where I am supposed to be."

Crowley smirked. "Good luck with that. If you happen to find a way off this rock, drop me a line, would you?"
He waved a hand at the Bentley. The lights went on and the engine started. The crowd on the corner stared, the greed and desire obvious on their faces.
Avarice was one of Crowley's favorite sins.
As they got closer to the car, the doors opened for them. Crowley placed his purchases in the boot, and motioned the girl towards the passenger door. "There's a few one-bedroom flats left in my building. A studio or three. Some two- and three-bedrooms. What are you interested in?"
From: [info]i_flyfar Date: 03/02/2006 09:25:47
Kory got into the car and tried to ignore the staring. She'd never liked people staring, even if it wasn't directly at her.
"I do not wish to take up much space," she told him. "A room and a place to prepare food would be enough. I can not pay immediately. I have no money here."
Which means she would have to find a way to earn some. Kory tried to think of what she could do. She'd never had any other job than to fight alongside the Titans while on Earth. And on Tamaran her family was the ruling family...Koriand'r had never had to have an income.
Then what the man had said before clicked.
"Have you never tried to go across the bay? Or fly?"
Most cities on Earth had airports. Even if it wasn't Earth, it still looked like it.

Crowley raised an eyebrow. A smirk settled in the corner of his lips. "I retired my wings a long time ago," he said. The Bentley took off like a shot, smoothly accelerating towards ninety. "And there's no airplanes or helicopters or any of that around. Maybe a few people who can fly for themselves, judging from what I saw outside my windows." He took a corner at seventy. "But no one seems to leave."
From: [info]i_flyfar Date: 03/03/2006 20:37:15
"You don't need wings to fly," Kory replied.
Just power.
The thought of no flying machines disturbed her as well as someone who seemed to be in an economic class that was far above manual labor seemed so resigned to such a stationary fate.
Kory frowned. She took a moment to notice the speeds at which the car was moving. She wasn't nervous. He seemed in control of the vehicle. It was not a speed many Earthlings took; it was considered 'reckless' here. Unless one was experienced with stunts and a lack of fear. Like Dick.
If only she still had access to a Tamaranian flagship...
"I have asked you many questions, but have neglected to ask your name," Koriand'r said. "I apologize for being rude. I was known as Starfire on Earth. What do they call you here?"
From: [info]i_lovemybentley Date: 03/03/2006 20:47:10
Crowley had to agree. "No, but have you ever tried it with? Completely different experience, believe me."
Being stationary, for the moment, wasn't bothering the demon. After his initial panic had subsided, Crowley had tried teleporting, miracling, and outright invoking. But the City was stubborn, and here he remained. At this point, he didn't know if discorporation would work, but he was reluctant to try. After all. He liked this body. Killing it would be upsetting. And who knew when he might get new equipment?
At the question, Crowley laughed gently. "Oh, they call me a few things." He cut off a few pedestrians, who were probably calling him a few choice terms right now. "But the ones on my good side tend to call me Crowley."
He pulled into a garage, and the Bentley screeched to a halt. "My place is just up the lift, on the top floor. There's a few empty flats on the first and second. And just under mine." Another quick glance her way. "If you're the flying type, I guess you'd want one of the upstairs ones. Nice view and all."
From: [info]i_flyfar Date: 03/03/2006 21:46:50
"It's unfortunate I was not gifted with wings," she replied, smiling.
Crowley. Kory took a good look at him. "Then they name well," she said. The dark hair and eyes made him look like the blackbirds she remembered from parks in cities like this.
She listened to him talk about the flats. She didn't mind; whichever one he gave would end up suiting her. He still hadn't brought up money. He was either very kind or waiting for the right moment to bargain. Koriand'r had a difficult time judging him.
"An upstairs room would be appreciated."
