i_assist And We Meet Again [Jesse/Max/Jack]
Max had been being very good, in her eyes at least. Since she'd started back to school, she hadn't skipped, hadn't even ditched one class. She was going through the motions just like every other kid in the place. The motions were simple really, as was being proved by her A average. There wasn't a lot of effort being put in at all on her part, she was almost thinking about switching classes again.
When the last bell rang, Max even found herself walking by the dean of students' door. Except it seemed like other kids had the same idea to fix their schedules as well. Max quickly decided that it wasn't that important and she could do it tomorrow if she really cared that much. Besides, her purse started beeping, meaning she had a message. She pulled out her computer quickly after getting to her locker and read the message from Jesse.
Alfred was waiting in the car outside as was usual and she requested a ride over to the hotel today, promising to take a cab home later.
Max left her backpack in the car when they reached the hotel and was quickly out of the car and running into the hotel lobby. The people who worked the front desk had long ago stopped looking at her oddly when she came dashing and and went running towards the back rooms. She stopped in front of the last door, Jesse's, and knocked.
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 13:55:02
Jesse was waiting for her and opened the door. Everything that was his was gone from inside. The place looked pretty much deserted. Everything in the fridge and cabinets had disappeared too. The place knew he wasn't going to be there anymore.
He let Max in mostly to see if she'd notice everything was gone.
"Hey, darlin. You're lookin good." She looked better. Healthier. Jesse stood aside and kept the door open, because he didn't think they'd be there long.
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 14:00:54
Max stepped inside, smiling and looking up at Jesse at first. "Thanks. I re-dyed my hair the other day and--" She stopped.
Her eyes flicked from Jesse to the practically empty apartment. The first thing she noticed missing was Kojak's little corner. Other things became apparent from there.
"Did they finally figure out you weren't paying?"
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 14:04:33
"Nope." Jesse shook his head. He kissed her quickly and took her hand.
"Come on, I've got somethin I wanna show you."
He didn't shut the door as he walked away from the room. He took her through the lobby and then outside.
"You up for a bit of a walk?"
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 14:08:56
"So long as you're with me, yeah." Max was holding his hand when they stepped outside.
She'd stopped on the sidewalk, not knowing where he wanted to take her. "Where're we going?"
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 14:10:23
"Somewhere." He said with a sly grin.
"Tell me how things at school are. Tell me how it all is being back again."
It was a good enough subject, and she'd temporarily forget that she had no idea where they were going.
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 14:19:11
"Um, well..." School wasn't exactly a crazily exciting subject (well, sometimes it was, but only when she was with other nerds and it rubbed off on her), but she'd try. "It's fine, I guess. I'm late for like, every class, but that's just 'cause I couldn't open my locker when I had easy access to both hands, so now it's basically impossible." Max had decided on her first day back that she hated combination locks more than anything.
"And I'm going to change my classes again I think, because when I was home I got really ahead, and it was all kind of easy before," she babbled on. "So once I feel like waiting in line at the dean's office I'm gonna switch into more college prep courses."
She frowned, trying to think of anything else, but drew a blank. "That's it really. It's school, nothing too interesting."
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 14:24:51
"It's interestin to me, darlin. I never went to school. Hell, I don't think I've ever been inside a school. I don't know what goes on there."
He let go of her hand in favor of putting an arm around her shoulders.
"I can only tell you what I know of school from movies and television, and I get the feeling that things aren't quite like that."
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 14:34:08
Max laughed. "You've never been inside one? You should come visit me. Ugly beige floors, ugly blue-grey lockers, ugly uniforms, funky smells, boring classes... school." It was weird to think that he'd never even been in just one. Max saw schools as kind of universal, everyone had to go through the torture once in their lives.
"It's definitely not the same as on TV, not as exciting. It's just boring, especially when your classes are too easy." Yeah, she was definitely going to have to fix that. "I was close to graduation back at home, so basically I'm doing a few months over."
She looked up at Jesse and grinned, because there was only so much she could think to say about school and she was getting curious again. "So, where are we going?"
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 14:36:15
"Closest I've been is standing outside yours." He smiled down at her. "Careful there, I might take you up on that offer to visit. Then what would you do?"
He completely ignored her question.
"Jak misses Ace, you know. We need to take them to the park again before the little guy goes mad with lonliness. He's completely destroyed the squeaky toy we got him."
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 14:42:14
"What would I do? Probably be ridiculously happy," she said, and stuck her tongue out at him. "Because you showing up at school means I get out."
Max noticed how her question was deftly pushed aside and the dogs were brought up. She wondered if where they were going had anything to do with them, but couldn't think of anyplace. Unless they were going to a kenel or something, and that wasn't much of a surprise.
"I'll have Alfred bring him down next time. I feel bad, I haven't really walked him since... for a few weeks." She shrugged a bit sadly. "We've been letting him run around the grounds, but I've woken up and found the leash on my bed a few times. I think he's trying to tell me something."
From: [info]i_jest Date: 02/22/2006 14:52:31
He was having another of those days where he didn't really do much of anything. He was just sort of standing in the middle of the sidewalk looking at a trail of ants going back and forth between somewhere and a dead, rotted bird.
That's when he noticed the familiar pink hair.
Lovely.
Wonderful.
Bright pink hair.
On a girl who he knew quite well. He could see where he'd marked her, still not completely healed.
Jack didn't really pay attention to the guy. Who cared about the guy? Maxine. Her name rolled around in his mind. He'd get to see how she'd turned out, and maybe add a little extra on.
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 14:55:53
"He likely is. A dog needs to get out and play. And see his friends." Jesse nodded sagely.
He didn't take notice of the man in their way. He looked like he could be waiting for the bus, so it wasn't no big matter.
His eyes stayed on Max and he was smiling.
"We'll take them to the park this weekend. By then you should feel good enough to be out like that for a long time. We can make a day of it."
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 15:06:17
Max was smiling, certainly liking the sound of that idea. She hadn't gotten to spend a weekend, or even a day of a weekend, with Jesse since she'd gotten hurt. The doctors' appointments had kept her busy for the past few, but she was clear at least this weekend.
She grinned a bit more, squeezing happily on his hand and looking up at him before turning to watch the sidewalk again.
Maybe she wouldn't have noticed the man standing by the bus sign she hadn't felt like he was staring at her. Though, admittedly, it was unlikely. She didn't even do a double take when she found his eyes, she just knew.
This time when Max squeezed Jesse's hand it wasn't out of happiness, but fear and because her voice had hitched in her throat. She stopped, yanking on Jesse's arm and trying to make him stop too.
She shouldn't have made eye contact, that just made it worse. Her eyes moved from his, sweeping over the jet black hair and pale pasty skin. Then she couldn't help but go back to his eyes. It was him.
From: [info]i_jest Date: 02/22/2006 15:11:05
Jack turned and sauntered toward the couple. Delicous. She knew him.
He smiled and stopped a few feet short.
His head tilted. She had scars. He could see them. Right there on her cheek where he'd bashed it against the brick wall. How could this get any better?
"Maxine." He cooed at her. What a lovely sculpture she'd turned out to be.
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 15:13:31
Everything had shifted. From mood to feeling in the air. Max tugged on his arm and Jesse was about to turn to her and kid about the fact they couldn't just make out in the middle of the sidewalk, but he saw the look on her face.
And then heard the voice.
Jesse frowned. He turned toward the man in the middle of the sidewalk and pushed Max behind him protectively. There was no way this fuck was touching her again.
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 15:19:32
Max appreciated the protection, but she didn't want to be here. She was of the opinion that they needed to turn and run.
She didn't answer when he said her name, instead shuddered slightly and had to resist the strong temptation to wrap her arms around herself in a tight hug. It wouldn't do any good.
"Jesse," she said in a small voice. "Let's just go."
The man was still looking at her. She felt helpless.
From: [info]i_jest Date: 02/22/2006 15:21:54
"Oooh. Jesse is it. Yes, Jesse. You run along. Maxine and I have some catching up to do. Don't we pinky?"
Jack rocked on his heels, happy to have found her again. He'd worried about that.
"Come on, Maxie. Don't you want to have more fun with me? I want to have more fun with you."
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 15:24:20
"This is him."
It was certain now. He shook his head at Max. "Ain't goin nowhere, baby girl."
He was ready for this. He'd been wanting this since Max had shown up at his door bruised and bleeding. He'd wanted this since he'd had to use the word on her to get her to wake up again.
And now that he saw the crazy fuck, he wanted it even more.
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 15:30:57
"No. No I really don't," Max said. She was feeling extremely self conscious with the way he was looking at her. And she'd seen the glance he'd taken at her cheek. She desprately wished her hair was down and covering it. She knew it was scarring, and that she still had one perfectly smooth cheek.
She gave a short nod when Jesse said that this was the man. There was no doubt. She was pretty much as unable to do anything that time as she had been before.
"Jesse, he's gonna..." she trailed off, gulping as she remembered everything from the last time they'd met. She knew what was coming.
From: [info]i_jest Date: 02/22/2006 15:33:34
"Jack Napier, at your service." Jack bowed low. "Well. Not your service. More like, my service, really."
He drew a gun from his belt. It was large, and almost impossible. It gave the term 'hand cannon' a whole new meaning.
"Now, please. Step aside boyfriend. Max, tell him. I really don't want to have to kill him. Well. Okay. So I don't want to have to kill him because he came between us. I'd rather just kill him because I feel like it. After a long afternoon of torment."
Jack motioned with the gun haphazardly.
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 15:44:04
The gun was much bigger than the one he'd threatened her with before. Max gulped again when it was pointed at them. It was definitely incentive for her to move. She didn't want to, but she also didn't want him to shoot Jesse, and she had no doubt that he would.
She didn't know what the smartest or best decision was, but slipped her shaking hand from Jesse's when Jack started waving the gun around. If he accidentally pulled the trigger, the bullets were going to go anywhere.
Max stepped out from behind Jesse only slightly. Jack was clearly in her line of vision now and looking at him directly only scared her more.
"Don't... please. Don't kill him."
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 15:48:38
Jesse caught Max's shoulder. Not concerned for now if it was still sore or not. She wasn't going anywhere. He guided her back behind him forcefully.
"Drop the gun." It was automatic. He didn't even think about it. Just said the words and knew the intent before it ever came out. "In fact...drop all your weapons." That he'd actually thought about. People like Jack, they often carried more than one.
He waited for Jack to do as he said. He'd be a man about this. Be polite about it. The beating wouldn't come until the other man was ready.
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 15:53:37
Max winced slightly, but said nothing when Jesse grabbed her back. She was thankful for it.
Sometimes she forgot that Jesse had The Word on his side, especially in a moment like this when she wasn't thinking clearly anyway. She didn't look at him when he used it, remembering his warning about that. She was finding it hard to look away from Jack anyway.
From: [info]i_jest Date: 02/22/2006 15:56:58
The gun dropped from Jack's hand, and he stared at it on the ground. He didn't have other weapons today, which was abnormal for him.
"That's really not fair." He said and looked back at Jesse and Max.
"Oh well. I don't really need it."
He was finding that even though he wanted it, he couldn't pick it back up. Something was keeping him from doing it.
Jack was beginning to worry.
"Uh."
He looked for escape, quick escape. It didn't really look like there was any.
Jack threw up his hands. "Oh."
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 15:59:35
"Now? It gets fun for me." He let go of Max and proceeded forward.
"You just stay put, ya hear?" He said at Jack.
Not that the man had looked like he was running anywhere or moving any time soon. It was just a little extra insurance that Jesse'd get to completely pound the guy into the ground and there wouldn't be much of a struggle with it.
It was cheating a little, sure. But the guy deserved it, and Jesse didn't think that anybody would be saying much if they found out he'd ordered a guy to stand still and take a beating.
Jesse took his time getting to Jack.
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 16:06:07
"Fun? Jesse, I don't think..." He was already heading towards him though.
The Word seemed to be working, but Max still stiffened when Jesse began walking towards Jack. She looked from side to side, wondering if there was anywhere she could convienently retreat to just in case.
Besides turning and running there were few options, and in the sling she was a far slower running and more prone to tripping due to lack of balance. Though, she was perfectly willing to ditch the sling. Bruce would get her a new one.
From: [info]i_jest Date: 02/22/2006 16:08:27
Jack was bordering on panic now. The guy was coming. And he couldn't move. Couldn't budge. Just had to stand there. Because of this guy's stupid fucking freak ass word powers, Jack couldn't get anywhere. He couldn't even advance back.
This was crap! Crap! Total and utter crap!
He was mad too, now.
How was this fair?
No guns. No weapons. No running away. No beating back. Though, he could still move his upper half.
"Fuck you, freaky word guy!" Jack screamed at him.
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 16:13:18
The first hit found Jack square in the face. Jesse didn't have anything special in the way of physical ability. Just years doing farm work. Years fighting with Jody. Years riding and wrangling horses.
Bar fights. Brawls. Jody, more. Lifting hay, becoming hard. Fighting his way out of the shit life the world had given him. Learning to steal cars and get away with it. Or beat the shit out of whoever tried to stop them.
Yeah. Fighting was in Jesse's blood. That's all he had in the way of training. He couldn't box. He didn't know any martial arts. But he could brawl like a motherfucker.
His fist met Jack in the stomach, in the kidney, the sternum, and the face again. Jesse wasn't worried about getting hit back. He knew how to take a punch. It might hurt like a son of a bitch, but that wouldn't stop him.
For the hell of it, Jesse grabbed the back of Jack's head and introduced that absurd face to his knee.
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 16:23:54
It almost hurt to watch, but Max couldn't say she felt bad for Jack. In fact, there was a grim satisfaction when the first trickle of blood dribbled down from his nose. The guy liked his scars and blood so much, well, there was some of his own.
She did have to turn away after about the fourth punch though. It was kind of one sided, and while Max still wasn't feeling sympathetic, it wasn't necessarily something she could stomach completely.
Plus there was an inkling of worry when she first noticed that Jack could still move his his upper body. She didn't want Jesse hurt, even if it was just a punch from the gangly man. Not on her account. She knew he obviously had the physical advantage but what if something happened?
Standing still, Max glanced over again out of the corner of her eye. She started biting nervously on her lower lip. Did The Word have a time limit? Was Jack suddenly going to dive for the gun again? She didn't have anyone to ask, and so alone the worst case scenarios kept running through her head.
From: [info]i_jest Date: 02/22/2006 16:29:45
"OH GOD!" Jack screamed as the hits just kept coming.
He was buckling to his knees now, that introduction to Jesse's knee had burst a few things in his face. Like his nose. And maybe eye blood vessels.
"Ow." He said, taking another hit. "S-stop." He cried, after another. But there was no stopping.
Even if Jack wanted to fight back, which he sort of did, he couldn't. It hurt too much. And the ground was awfully close to his face.
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 16:32:33
Jack was on the ground now, where Jesse wanted him. It had happened a little too quickly maybe, but that was alright. Probably Max shouldn't have to watch him beat on a guy for too long.
"Don't." Jesse hit him on the side of the head. "Fuck." Jaw. "With." stomach. "My." face again. "Girl."
Jesse picked up his foot and brought it down flat against Jack's chin. Hard as he could. It knocked Jack out, from what Jesse could tell.
He looked back at Max.
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 16:39:18
Max didn't know what to say right away.
"Is he... he's not dead is he?" She asked nervously. She didn't know whether she wanted to approach or not. He was obviously unconcious, whatever he was, but she still didn't want to be anywhere near him.
She looked back over at Jesse and managed a breif and weak smile. She was still shaken. "Th-thanks. Can we, um, not walk that way?" Essentially she wanted to cross the street, but Max felt rather foolish asking that directly. She could force herself to walk by him, but she wasn't doing it by herself.
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 16:41:37
Jesse looked back down and saw breathing. "Not hardly."
He nodded to Max and went to her side quickly. His knuckles were raw and sore, and he did his best to keep his blood and Jack's blood off of Max's clothes, but put an arm around her to guide her away.
"Sorry 'bout that." He pointed a thumb backward.
Cross the street they did. And it wasn't too far to go from here anyway. Max was shaking and he felt a bit responsible for that.
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 16:48:05
She was able to breath and speak easier when they were safely across the street and away from the Jack's limp form. She couldn't control the shaking much, but there was a definite improvement once they'd crossed and she was closer to Jesse.
"S'okay," Max answered, once speaking wasn't so difficult. "Wasn't you, it was him. I was just scared." She still was a little bit. "I didn't really think I'd see him again..."
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 16:52:40
"You don't have to be scared no more, baby girl." Jesse squeezed her once. "If he decides he wants to try again, you won't be alone then neither. And next time I won't be so nice."
He ducked into the lobby of a building. The door was open.
"Just gotta wash up."
As a joke, Jesse looked around to make sure nobody was watching. They weren't, but they'd have let him slip by anyway. This was now his home, after all.
He hit the elevator button like it was a matter of life and death and pulled her inside when the doors opened.
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 17:01:28
Max allowed Jesse to pull her into the elevator, though she was trying to look around and get a feel for exactly where they were. She didn't recognise it at all and still being slightly nervous, she kind of wanted to know.
She kept close to Jesse as they stood in the elevator. "Is this the big surprise?" The doors had closed now, blocking her view of the building lobby.
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 17:22:12
He remained quiet and looking at the lighted numbers until the doors pinged open. They were on the top floor. There were only four doors in this hallway, and Jesse stopped in front of the furthest one from the elevator.
He dug in his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. They were attached to a little red metal heart. Jesse held them out to Max.
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 17:31:24
She was starting to get it now, when he pulled out the keys. She looked from the door back to the keys and smiled.
"Can I?" Max took the keys by the heart and then looked back to the door, starting to get excited. There were so many possibilities of what was behind there. She was pretty sure she knew the jist of it though. "This'd explain the empty hotel room. I hope."
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 17:34:36
"They're your keys, baby, you can do what you like with em." He grinned at her and stood to the side of the door, letting her have space and time.
Jesse was smiling a lot. Excited to see what her reaction would be.
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 17:48:45
"Mine?" She asked, slightly surprised. She looked down at them again, and couldn't help it when her smile turned into a huge grin.
Max wasted no time in fitting the right keys into the right locks and pushing open the door.
When she stepped inside it was sort of like stepping into a part of the manor. It wasn't as fancy, but it was very nice, certainly better than the hotel. And large. And, she couldn't help but leave Jesse and begin to look around, every room had doors attached to it. Not just openings in the wall.
There was a wonderful view too from the windows, which had equally nice drapery and shades. As soon as she'd taken that in Max was off again, going from room to room so she could see it all.
When she'd finally seen everything, except for the bedroom, she went back to the front, to the door and Jesse. The huge grin was still fixed on her face and the keys were squeezed into the palm on her hand.
"This is yours? All of it? Like, you don't have to share it or anything? How did you... this is great. It's so big. And it's nice. And we're... you're gonna live here?"
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 17:56:55
"It's all mine. A .. friend... aquired it for me. Didn't think that the hotel was suitable enough. So he brought me here and handed over all the paperwork. There's so many rooms that Kojak has his own. Doesn't have to share anymore."
Jesse smiled at her. "The whole place is mine. But you're welcome here any time. Those keys are yours, like I said. One set of em is for the lobby doors downstairs. They're not always open like that."
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 18:12:20
"It's great," she said happily. "You've got all the luck."
Max took his hand and pulled him further in. "A tour? Pretend I didn't just run around the whole thing." She grinned up at him, absolutely loving this.
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 18:20:21
"Tour." He nodded.
Jesse pulled her out of the living room where they were standing and into the kitchen. A full kitchen.
"Here's the food preperation area. Also known as the kitchen." He grinned at her. "There's the stove. And an oven."
Next, Jesse pulled her to a door, he opened it and peered inside. "This is that room that has a lot of books. I think it's called a study. I ... doubt highly that I'll ever use it, but ... you can. It seems to have a lot of good stuff, I guess." There was a big chair and a big couch, and a desk and all that.
The next room was spruced up and fancy. "This is the guest bedroom. Uh. I don't think I'll ever have a guest that needs it, but hey. There it is."
He pulled her to the next room, which was big and empty aside from a dog and some dog toys. Kojak looked up and thumped his tail against the floor when he saw Max, but he was far too distracted by a big fat bone to get up and properly say hello. "Jak's room." his tone noted that that much should be obvious.
He pointed out the bathroom that sat between the dog room and the guest room, it was large and nice enough.
But the last room he pulled her into was his room. And it was much more exciting. Everything was done in dark colors. Classy like. "There's a fireplace in here, as well as the living room. Apparently there's like a seperate dining room somewhere, but I have yet to find it. Some secret hidden door or somesuch. The bathroom in here's got a tub and a shower. I don't know how all this fits in one place, but I aint about to look a gift horse in the mouth."
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 18:39:46
Max wasn't even sure if Bruce had a fireplace in his room. This place left little to be desired. As far as Max could see it had everything a person could possibly need.
Still grinning, she looked around the bedroom. So much to take in, and one little thing that needed doing.
Max let go of Jesse's hand and went over to the bed. Without any preamble she sat down on it and started bouncing up and down. She went on for awhile before looking over at Jesse rather soberly and saying, "It'll do."
She grinned again then, to let him know she was joking. "We should search for the dining room later."
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 18:44:21
"We should." He agreed. "You'd probably know how to find it better than I do. You've got the big house secret room experience."
After all, with a house as big as Wayne Manor, how could there not be secret rooms?
Jesse sat beside her on the bed and smiled. "I'm glad you like it. No more hotel. No more lying to people. I feel better about it. And I don't have to worry about the money part either. I woulda been happy with a small place, but it wasn't going to happen that way."
Eventually he'd probably have to introduce Max and Crowley. Probably Max and Progo too. She should know that he occasionally travelled with an invisible friend. For all he knew, Progo had been with him for the beating of Jack. He'd apologise later if that was the case.
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 19:03:16
"Secret rooms are my specialty." Max nodded sagely. She definitely knew what secret handles and latches looked like.
Except she wasn't getting up right then, because they'd had a decent sized walk over, and then there're been the whole thing with Jack, and she'd had a full day of school. There was a tiny bit of exhaustion creeping up. She ended up crossing her legs and sitting contently.
"They can't worry about me anymore when I come over now for the weekends," she said, meaning those back at the manor. "I'll bet this place has a doorman, cameras, and everything. I mean, I didn't mind the hotel or anything, but this just so much better."
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 19:08:59
"Yeah. Doorman. And keys." Jesse patted his pocket. "Two sets, even."
He flopped back onto the bed. "I bet they're startin to worry about you though. How late are you allowed to stay?"
And then, just because he hadn't had one in a while, Jesse fished out a cigarette and lit it up.

Max shrugged. "Probably sevenish. Alfred didn't mention it being a big family dinner night, so Bruce'll probably be home late. I just have homework."
She would have to tell Bruce and Babs that she knew Jack's name now. And that he was currently laying in a beaten pulp on the sidewalk. Though that could come later.
"I'm gonna come over this weekend though, we can ignaugerate the place," she said jokingly. "I've got something to show you this weekend too."

"Oh?" Jesse looked at her and raised a brow. "I ain't even gonna ask. I'm just going to let it sit like that I think. I may not even wanna know."
He rested the cigarette in his lips and stared at the ceiling.
"I like it well enough. It's homey and nice. And I don't feel so skeezy living here like I did at the hotel. Just somethin weird about sayin that you live in a hotel room."

"Oh, it's not that bad." She gave him a pout and didn't elaborate. Thinking back to the issue of Cosmo she had tucked under her pillow at the manor, she rationalised. It wasn't horrible or anything.
Mostly. Max smiled, and concentrated on Jesse again.
"Yeah, it's kinda sketchy thing to have to say," she agreed when he mentioned the hotel again. "Didn't mind though, 'cause it was your hotel room."
She looked at him, watching the smoke curl out of the cigarette and up into the air. "Going for au du fumee as the scent of choice?" Max poked his side playfully. "Not that cigarette smoke isn't a great smell to decorate with."

He laughed. "Uh." Jesse shook his head. "No clue what you said there, darlin. But I'm gonna guess it had somethin to do with the cigarette."
He transfered the cancer stick from his lips to his fingers and moved it away from her.
"Try again, with a little less fancy wording."

"Basically you're gonna make your bedroom smell like cigarette smoke," Max said with a tiny smirk. "If you smoke in here too much, you will. Don't forget to open some windows."
She didn't mind the scent too much. She'd gotten used to it over the weeks. It was all part of Jesse's smell. Cigarettes, a little alcohol, the soap he used, and something else that she couln't identify. Whatever it was, she liked it. Particually when she was snuggled up and sleeping next to him.
"Either that, or you'll set off a fire alarm," she finished, contemplatively.

"Okay, I don't smoke that much." Jesse looked at her. "There won't be no alarms goin off."
He couldn't promise he'd remember to open windows either. He just wasn't the window opening sort. He just smoked.
"Do you mind it?" Jesse propped himself up a bit. "I mean, truly? Honestly?" He supposed he could cut back if she hated it. But he might resent her a little if she wanted him to stop completely.

"No, not so much," she said honestly, because she didn't really. "You don't smoke that much around me, in case you hadn't noticed. What you do when I'm not around doesn't really matter. And besides, if you stopped you wouldn't smell the same." Max shrugged sheepishly.
"I was just joking, seriously. I really don't mind it, and it's not like I'd make you stop just for me."
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 20:37:58
Jesse smiled at her. "I'm really glad to hear that. Really very glad to hear that."
He really didn't want to give it up. He liked it too much.
"You're wonderful, you know that?"
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 20:41:31
Max raised an eyebrow. "You keep asking me questions like this. Of course I'm just gonna say no so that I can hear you tell me again."
Well, at least she was honest. Not so much innocent as she sat there trying to look at him with a pure smile that wasn't so pure, but definitely honest.

Jesse looked at the clock on the nightstand. "It's past seven, Max."
This whole cerfew thing was killing him. He'd be glad for the weekend to come so he could have time with her uninterrupted.
"Should we call you a cab?"
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 20:51:45
Ugh. Max tried not to audibly groan. "Yeah, I guess so. I don't want Alfred to go into hysterics because I don't show up for food."
She uncrossed her legs and stretched out before setting her feet down on the floor. It was a very reluctant motion. She didn't want to go anywhere.
"Okay, so Friday and Saturday night, right? I'll bring clothes. And a toothbrush."
From: [info]i_seekgod Date: 02/22/2006 20:55:02
"There's a toothbrush here for you already." Jesse said sitting up. He picked up the bedside phone.
"Hello, yeah, I need a cab for a Miss Maxine Gibbons, as soon as possible. She'll be down in a minute. Pink hair. Thanks."
He grinned. "Just like that."
Jesse pulled Max up and drew her into a hug. From there he kissed her softly. "Friday and Saturday. I can't wait, darlin."
From: [info]i_assist Date: 02/22/2006 20:58:23
"Me neither." Resisting the urge to deepen the kiss and therefore stay at the apartment for another good hour, Max did the responsible thing and pulled away before her hormones took over.
She stood up and took Jesse's hand so that they could at least walk out to the front together.
"I'll see you on Friday," she said, patting her pocket to make sure her set of keys was there before she reached the pull open the door.

He kissed her again at the door and stopped himself from pulling her back inside.
"Heal more, okay? And be good." One more kiss. "Goodnight."
