i_jest Out and about and causing a riot of pain (Death)
Jack was on the prowl. His encounter with Maxine, that lovely little pink haired girl, had put him on an upswing so incredible, that he hadn't stopped smiling in days. Or was it weeks? Or was it hours? Whatever. Who really knew.
He was peeking into houses and ground floor apartments.
"Yoooooou better watch out..." He sang low to himself. "You better not cry...actually. Do. Cause it's really fun to watch. Better not pout though, cause that just pisses me off. I'm telling you why. Jacky boy is stalking tonight!"
So far, nothing had really caught his eye. Nothing very exciting at all.
"He sees you when you're sleeping." He passed a darkened window, seeing a car out front.
"He knows when you're awake...." Another house, but the tv was blaring. He could see the shadows inside moving.
"He knows if you've been bad or good..." Ah ha. Lovely. "So be good for goodness sake. No. Whywouldyoudothat? Be. Bad for goodness sak.... nope. That really just doesn't work. Be bad for badness sake? It makes no sense at all. Oh! Just be bad because it's fun!"
Jack giggled and tested the window he stood in front of. Open! Oh! Open. Open open open. Delightful. He slipped inside and looked around.
The house was dark except for a single light that came from under a door. When he got to the door, he opened it and smiled broadly at the little old lady sitting in a chair reading.
"GRANMA!" He yelled. Jack flung his arms wide.
She was startled, and dropped her book and looked up. For a moment she was confused. "Y-you aren't my grandson..."
"I'm hurt grannypants! Of course I am! You don't remember me? Jack! Jack! Your little Jacky boy!"
The lady eyed him, still unsure. "Uhm. Okay then. What are you doing here?"
"I came to make sure you took your pills!" He moved to the attached bathroom and came out with bottles and bottles. "And look at that. You haven't."
"I did. I did just a minute ago."
"Oh, no. That was yesterday. See? You have too many pills left. If you'd taken them, there'd be less. Here." Jack dumped the bottles on the ground and started taking off caps. He got two of each. "You take these, then it'll be all better."
"What are you doing, Jacky? I can't take all those!"
"Granma, Jacky knows best. Open up." Jack waited, and when she did, instead of just one, he pushed the whole handful in. She started choking. Too soon. He got her water and helped her swallow, and then sat down.
"It was too much, Jacky! I have to go to the hospital!"
"No, grans. You'll be just fine. Juuuuuuust fine." Jack sat back, arms around his knees, watching her, anxious for the moment.

Didi was already watching, frowning, as the woman's heart rate slowed. The drugs seeped into her system, and within a few minutes, her diaphram had stopped, lungs ceased to draw oxygen. It wasn't long before her heart slowed further.
"Well. That wasn't very nice of him."
Death shook her head. "No. It wasn't," she agreed.
"To think. My own grandson." The spirit of the woman sighed, no longer angry, or sad. That sort of emotion required glands. Or a very firm effort. "I'm going to miss the house."
Death smiled. "No. I don't think you will."
A rush of beating wings, and Death was standing alone, giving the murderer a sad look.

Jack poked at the corpse a bit.
She was most definitely a corpse. That had gone too quickly. He was still craving some more fun.
His eye twitched.
There was a feeling.
Jack looked around. "Delly? Delly Dear? Is that you?" Man, it felt familiar.

"No," she said. And there she was, like she'd always been there. "Didi. Not Delly."
She squinted a bit, and then nodded. "I thought that was you, Jack."

"Hm. Not Delly." He shook his head. "I was wondering why she'd show up early."
Jack stood and eyed Didi. "Did Delly tell you about me? Is that why you know me?"

Death shook her head. "No one told me about you." She glanced at the corpse and let her eyes flicker back to him. "I've seen you around a lot. More than I really should have, in the normal scheme of things."

Jack smiled and it twisted on his face. "You watch me then? Is that it?"
Now, the fact that he wasn't disturbed about a girl who had suddenly appeared from nowhere didn't occur to him. It really didn't even occur to him that he should be. Or that anybody else might be.
"Delly's more colorful than you are."

Delly. Who hung out with The Jok-- oh.
Oh. Well, that made sense. He was one of hers, after all.
Death had never minded that her siblings had their own mortals, the ones they gifted, or cursed, in their own ways. Ones that were more attuned to them than any of the other Endless.
To Death, it made no difference. Sooner or later, they all became hers.
"I like black," she said. "It's part of my nature. Delirium doesn't have any particular color preference, so she goes through them all."

"And fish." Jack pointed out.
His attention returned to the corpse, who was no longer fun now that she wasn't breathing. He was a lot of things, but he'd never been into playing with the dead. Okay, so that one time, but he hadn't done anything dirty.
And now, of course, after the fact, he was thinking of other things he could have done to her first. He had a hard time remembering that the inital ideas weren't always the best.
"You came for Granny, didn't you?"
From: [info]i_amjustme Date: 02/09/2006 17:37:55
Death nodded. "Yes. Not the most conventional way to meet someone's big sister, you know."
From: [info]i_jest Date: 02/09/2006 17:41:02
He raised his eyebrows. "You're Delly's sister? That's Fantastic."
Jack clapped his hands with glee.
"I didn't do it to meet you. Though, I don't think that would have changed anything." A finger to the chin. "Maybe it would have gone quicker. Or been sooner. But no. No, that really wasn't part of the plan. I didn't even know she had a sister!"
From: [info]i_amjustme Date: 02/09/2006 18:00:28
"And now you do," she said. "I am her sister. Her elder sister."
Death let her eyes fall on his. "And I take care of my siblings."
It wasn't exactly a threat. You couldn't be Death and say that to someone without it being such.
Death was responsible. She did her job. Nothing more, nothing less. But she was also a woman, and a sister. There was a fierce protective instinct in her when it came to her siblings. Some more than others, but it was still there. And Del, ever since Delight, had always been a soft spot for the second eldest of the Endless.

"Sure, sure." Jack nodded. The implication passed over his head completely.
"I'm gonna get Delly some fish. And some fish china. And then? We're gonna have a tea party. Oh yes. And we might watch a movie with dogs."
He was now kicking the foot of the dead woman. This was getting a little boring.
"So. You always there? For this? Cause I think I might go do another. You could save time and just walk with me."
