i_jest And so it is (Dent. Backdated)
Right after this
Guilty guilty guilty.
Of course he was guilty.
The insanity judgement was just oh so much better. Back to Arkham he was going. Back to right where he wanted to be. Could life get any better than this? No. Yes. OF course it could. Life could always get better.
Jack had ways of making his own life better. Even if it was at the expense of others.
"Sally! Don't forget me Sally! Wait for me, Sally! I promise good things are on their way!" He grinned over his shoulder. They hadn't put him in a straight jacket yet. It was something they refused to do in the public eye. He'd done his best to not laugh in their faces as they told him this. Because it was fucking hilarious.
Jamie had brought him a thermos of cold water. It was a thoughtful gift. The last purified water Jack would taste for at least a month.
Jack looked at the thermos of cold water. "It's very sweet, Sally. Thank you. But um. Could you make it a little... I don't know. Sharper? At all?"
Jamie quirked a brow at Jack, then at the water, then back at Jack again. "Sharper?" Like spikey ice? Or glass? He could do that, maybe.
He thought a moment. "Maybe not sharper but... maybe... more painful?"
So, Jamie knew Jack was into pain, and suffering, and such. And he was mad, after all. "For... drinking?"
"Oh no." Jack shook his head. "For... skin contact."
"Ooh!" He got it now. "I could make it really, really hot?" 'Cause that would hurt a lot.
"Hot is good." He nodded slowly. "But cold and... eaty... is better." He raised his eyebrows. Eh? Get it? He didn't want to just say it. Who knew who was listening.
This reminded Jamie of a movie he'd seen a couple of years back. This evil guy had no face, so he punished anyone he didn't like by making them have no face either. Or something. "Right. Sharp." Jamie nodded, and stared at the thermos.
"It's good to go!" He said cheerfully after half a minute.
"Wonderful, my faithful friend." He opened the thermos and sniffed. Exactly what he'd been hoping for. "Now.... you'd better sit down before they take you in too."
Jamie sat.

Anything less than the death penalty for Jack Napier was a slap in the face of Lady Justice. He never voiced this fact in court, but Harvey had hoped it was apparent from his case. The jury and judge, however, had decided once more to play skittles with the chess set of the Judicial System. This was unacceptable. If someone so clearly guilty and so clearly unable to change his ways was able to escape proper punishment, what hope was there for anyone?
As the gavel slammed down, Harvey closed his eyes and gritted his teeth. Once more he repressed his boiling ire, pushing it into the corner of his mind where it belonged. It took much longer this time, as the corner now dominated much of the available space. Having regained his composure, he opened his eyes to see that he was almost entirely alone in the courtroom.
Leaving his papers, his notes, even his jacket behind, he leapt to his feet and hurtled toward the door. He should, if nothing else, congratulate Murdock on the case. Perhaps he could catch him outside the courthouse.
On the steps outside, a sea of reporters crashed on the shore of police officers, leaving Jack and his escort well out of their reach. He looked around, hoping to spot the attorney, but Murdock was nowhere to be seen. The monster leered at his public, wallowing in the attention as he was led to the police van.

"Oh, yes, it was quite glorious." Jack was saying to somebody who was asking him for details of the fire he'd set with the bodies. "I'm sure you could see the plume of smoke all the way across the whole city."
He grinned for a camera. The thermos was clutched tightly in his hands. One of the Arkham attendants tried to take it away from him, and Jack screamed bloody murder. He cried and spoke about how it was his best friend and they couldn't take it away from him. He'd die without it. Rather than cause a further scene, they let him keep it.
Just like that, his mood turned back around and he was back having fun with the crowd.
Jack loved the adoring public.

That did it. Seeing this murderous clown play the crowd like an orchestra brought Harvey's ire back in full force. Jack was going to pay, and Harvey was going to collect.
He hurled himself down the stairs at the convict, nearly stumbling in his blind fury, but silent all the way down. Then, choosing his target carefully, he bellowed and threw a hard left at a gap between escorts, connecting with the back of Jack's head.

Jack lurched forward, grasping the thermos and turned quickly. His grin spread.
"Oh Harv." Jack got closer, the attendants were confused. The public was loving it. "You have no idea how badly I was hoping you'd come for a visit. You're a whole different person where I come from, and I like it better when the faces around me are familiar."
He unscrewed the top and looked inside with glee.
This was going to be so much fun.
Jack thrust the open end of the thermos toward Harvey Dent.

He knew it wasn't water in that thermos from the way Jack had been acting. Still, he didn't have time to give himself any more protection than to cover the right side of his head with his left arm before its contents hit him. He started screaming immediately, before he even felt the acid eating away at his flesh.
He threw himself onto the stairs of the courthouse and thrashed about in a fit. Cameras flashed all around him, washing out the color of the scene and illuminating everything in a high contrast black and white. He looked up at the blindfolded statue of Justice, still in shades of gray.
The last thing he remembered was Jack's smiling face as the police muscled him into the van.

Now he was being handled roughly.
Throw a little acid on a guy, and things go downhill. There will still cameras. There were still people trying to talk to him. It was of no use, of course. Since he was being heavily restrained, the thermos taken away from him, and more than two pairs of cuffs put on his various parts.
Gleeful.
"Bye, Harv! Have a nice time!" Jack giggled as they shoved him into the transport truck.
