Who: Rhaena and Alvur
When: Late Afternoon
Where: Elkwood stables
What: Arriving a bit late

Rhaena was more than a little disappointed in herself for not making it to Kingswood in time to see the Divine Mother arrive. It was true that she would have many chances over the next year to see her, after all it was a celebration dedicated to the Creator and she was the Creator's voice in this realm, but she wouldn't have the chance to see her arrive. However she had no one to blame for it but herself. If not for her insistence that she and her guard stop for one last night under the stars before they arrived in the capital then they would have arrived in Kingswood with plenty of time to spare. "I know, Stefan," she sighed as she slipped off of her horse without his assistance, though he was there to lend it. "I have no one to blame but myself, and that is the only person I am blaming. Thank you for humoring me."

"That's part of my job," Stefan replied as he waited for Rhaena to hand the reins of her horse over so that he could take him off. She surprised him by keeping hold and leading him to the stableboy herself. She slipped the boy a few small apples with the whispered assurance that giving them to him would see him well-tempered throughout his groom. She raised her eyes in time to see Stefan hiding a grin behind his hand before he went into the stable as well.

With one last glance to make sure that her horse would be well cared for, Rhaena turned back and caught herself before she ran face-first into someone. "Oh! My apologies," she said, though at least she had stopped before she hit them. "I was paying more attention to my horse."

Alvur sighed as he stretched out his old bones, rigid from having sat too long in the gardens. Today had been one of his busier days thanks to the arrival of none other than Divine Mother Althea, a lovely woman truly, on top of the nobles who continued to trickle in for the celebration. He wasn't sure if his digestion would be able to handle another feast, but he couldn't miss it. If he did then people might be concerned about his health and they had enough of that going around with Cuthwulf. Tugging at the end of his beard as he began to walk, Alvur found himself wondering for what had to be the hundredth if not the thousandth time what it was that was so wrong with his King.

Caught up in his ponderings, Alvur was as at fault as the young woman who nearly ran into him. Thankfully they hadn't collided or else he could picture himself laid up with a broken hip.! Thank you, Creator, he prayed silently, finding a smile come to his mouth as he regarded the young woman stood in front of him. "Ahhhh, I remember you," he declared, reaching out to pat her on the shoulder as was his custom with those he had known for some time. "Lady Rhaena Quelth, is it not? Good to see that you've arrived safe and sound. I wasn't sure that I would be seeing your family at court for the celebrations." He had tried to remember most of those who were supposed to come.

Rhaena's dark eyes widened when she realized who it was that she'd run into. Members of the clergy made her feel uncomfortable when she came across them on her own in a more secluded location, rather than at one of their monasteries or surrounded by other nobles. In such locations or with people, Rhaena could let herself blend into the crowd. Right now there was nothing she could do but pull a smile on her face and keep her apprehension at bay so that the man, High Father Alvur Thrain himself, didn't know that his presence made her uneasy.

"High Father Alvur," Rhaena responded, spreading her riding skirts so that she could give the proper curtsy. While part of her rebelled against the acknowledgement of a man of a religion that she didn't believe in, she did know that she needed to do this for the show. To be in Kingswood and appear anything but pious during this time would be something that her father wouldn't be able to understand when word reached his ears. Her mother would, but her father just wouldn't, so Rhaena curtsied and smiled. "I am pleased that you remember me, since I do not think that I saw you on my last visit." Yes, she avoided the High Priest the best that she could without making it obvious. As for the matter of her family, Rhaena gave a helpless little shrug. "The rest of my family may yet come, they have not quite made up their minds. My parents thought it would be good if I came, and so I did. With Stefan of course."

Once upon a time, Alvur remembered, no one had curtsied or bowed to him. It had been a long time ago and not so long all at the same time, since he had shaken such things away when he was a lower member of the clergy. He'd have done the same now, but it was all but impossible. He had tried, and every time he managed to convince someone to not bow there was someone else doing it where they could see, earning him the look of 'why can they but I can't?' It was a fight he had given up years ago, even if it made him sigh to himself every time that it happened.

"I do my best to recall the faces of all those who come here," Alvur informed Rhaena. She also had a unique enough name that it didn't blend together with the others. Stefan was another matter. That was a name he'd heard plenty of times, though he didn't think it was the name of one of her brothers. "Ah yes, a manservant." He was taking a guess, but he thought he was right. Lord Quelth was unlikely to send his eldest, and by all accounts favorite, daughter to court without someone to watch after her. The state of her dress told Alvur that perhaps she'd been sleeping outside again instead of in the inns or castles that would've been open to her. "The more the merrier, and the Creator will never turn a face away. You did miss the arrival of the Divine Mother earlier, but she will be at the feast tonight. You will be as well?"

Rhaena kept the polite smile on her face as the High Priest informed her that he recalled everyone. She wondered if she would be able to do that when she was as old as he was. Momentarily she was seized by the desire to ask and see how old that was, but she quieted the urge with a reminder of how impolite that would truly be. Her father wouldn't be at all happy to learn that she had offended the High Priest of Arcadie on her first day at court.

"More of a guard I suppose, though he does not mind doing things for me." Rhaena was still certain her father was going to send her an actual servant any day now instead of trusting to what the palace had to offer. "I will be at the feast, Father Alvur, I am starving after time on the road." She may have enjoyed sleeping under the stars, but she wasn't so fond of the diet that often came with such behavior. Squirrels were only so good and a brief trip wasn't reason enough to shoot a deer so they'd made due. She could picture her father's irritation when he realized they'd left behind the meals prepared for them, and would be surprised if she didn't get a letter about that. "Have the arrivals of the other nobles gone well?"
