I'm sorry, dear, but who the fuck do you think you are? The city spokesperson? What makes you feel like you have the right to judge us? To accuse us -- albeit not directly -- of not caring about all that has been lost.
There's no law that states that we have to inform you of what we are doing to help but clearly I'll have to. Both Rose and I have done what we can to help out wherever we can. AND we are not just helping our fellow displaced. Because as you pointed out it didn't just hit us.
This BBQ has been planned since May. We chose to go ahead with it despite everything-- not to celebrate the days true meaning -- but to give everyone the opportunity to see what we've seen in this tragedy. That we are here. We are not stopping anyone from mourning. I lost my granddaughter but I am choosing to set an example for my sons. To teach them that its okay to mourn and see the good after a tragedy all at the same time.
So, as Rose has said, you are not forced to attend this BBQ. Clearly there are those who feel like we do and plan on attending. I hope you enjoy your holiday.
