I think people...I mean those people not displaced are starting to accept the world is not normal. Some of our regulars in the Inn, they talk about how strange things are, about everything thats been happening and its like they don't want to say the words but...its there.

I don't want to profit from their fear...

You are a leader people will listen to, and be proud of. You do not rule by fear as Jacen Solo does.

I know they believed in the cause, 'Ponine. And in me. And where did it get them?

They had futures. All of them. Even Grantaire, for all he believed he didn't. And they're gone. Each and every one of them.

I don't trust him as a leader. I don't know that I ever will. He rules in a way no one should.

But maybe he still leads better than I do. He loses lives, but he doesn't grieve for them years later. He simply gets up to lead again.

And sometimes a cause is the only thing that matters. You, me, all of them, do you think we didn't know there was a chance? You knew it too, even if we'd had everyone else to fight, many of us would still have died.

You need to believe in yourself again. You need to believe in something. Why do we fight here? What are we fighting for? You tell me that.

No, every life, every single one is important. He doesn't care and that is the mark of a bad leader. You have to care otherwise people are no better than cattle to you. He'll make bad choices because he doesn't care for us.

I suppose I simply didn't expect to lose them all. I thought... 'Ponine, if I'm the leader you always say I am, then why? Why did they fail us? Why did they simply let them all die?

We fight for a better world. We fight for our own existence. If we fail, everything is lost. Not just us, the displaced, but this entire world will fall. I don't know what else to do now but to fight.

He will put you all at risk because in the end, your lives, and perhaps his, mean nothing to him. I'll fight. And I won't stop you from doing so. But I'd rather have you at my side.
