Probably somewhat similar, though I don't think it's quite to the same extreme. They know one thing and one thing only and that's hatred. Give them a bit of any other emotion and from what I've seen, they will quite literally self-destruct. They'd rather die than be anything other than what they know. I know Katherine was a pile of wasted space when she turned her emotions back on, but she wasn't suicidal. Likely because she didn't give a damn
You missed quite a bit. I feel most of the soldiers didn't have a choice, or at least thought they didn't. Standing up for what's right seems the noble thing to do, but for some people, it isn't the easiest choice. And some really probably were racist, homophobic, anti-Semites. You know. People.
