If Moriarty has died. What does that mean for those that follow him? I confessed two of them but there have to be others, don't there?

I'd be willing to bet there were plenty. He had his own little criminal empire, after all. If he was anything at all like he was in the stories, he ran the whole show and they will likely be less powerful without him. Course, there's no guarantee on that, but still.

Then we take this opportunity to find a way to bring them down.

What do you propose? We can't go killing at random, that's not how our justice system works. Then we're no better than he was.

Take the leaders. Send them to jail or have me do what I did to the others.

They'll have better lives

Okay. I think I can get behind that. Sometimes it's nice to have friends on the police force.

If we can round them up, I'm personally okay with sending them to jail the old-fashioned way. I doubt most of them were crazy psycho villains like him, just regular criminals who need to be off the street.

For however long your justice keeps them locked away.

Do they learn to be different in jail? Or do they learn to be worse

Some will change in prison. Some may get worse, but some will improve, honestly. And as hard as it is, we have to give them that chance. It isn't for us to play judge and jury just because we were personally affected by the actions of their leader. The Seal didn't bring us here to kill off common criminals, or play with their minds.

I was not personally affected. And I do not 'play' with their minds.

This is what I do. I am the judge and the jury

I am sorry for that. No one should have to go through that.

...It's a pity then.

No they shouldn't, but they did. And it's poor repayment to the life we lost to brush aside justice because of the actions of a mortal man. Yes, he was brought by the Seal, but he was still running a crime ring and nothing more or less.

You believe it would be brushing aside justice?

You confessed them? What's that mean?

It's not something I do lightly.

I have the ability to take someones mind. I heard someone mention compelling. Its similar but I can't free them after. They are in thrall to me for the remainder of their natural lives.

Generally I'll have them go and live honest lives elsewhere. Hurt no one and pay back society for what they have done with good honest work.

How long can you see them staying behind bars?

I don't know. I guess if they are like Moriarty they probably wouldn't.

..Maybe it wouldn't be too bad if they aren't hurt.

It could never hurt them. This is my responsibility as Mother Confessor be it my world or no

I'm agreeing with Rose. Let the justice system take care of them. As annoyingly obtuse and lackluster as it can be sometimes, going after them ourselves doesn't make us much better than Moriarty.

And in regards to you confessing them--after reading what you told Kon it means--sure it'd be great to make everyone suddenly embrace hands and dance around to the Beach Boys, but I'm not sure that's all that kosher either.

I didn't say hurt them. But they have to be stopped from continuing, don't they?

That isn't what I do. And I assure you, I don't take the decision lightly. But those two I confessed in Canada, they won't hurt anyone else, they'll live lives, good honest lives.

I fail to see how that isn't a better alternative than rotting in a jail cell.

Stopped from continuing their path of destruction I can get behind, but I'm not sure any of us are the best ones to go about doing that.

I just think it's a slippery slope. No matter what you messed with their minds. And sure, now they're on the straight and narrow, but I just have this hang up with minds being messed with. One person's decision of where to draw that line of when to alter something won't always match with another's.

I've been trained from a young age to hold the responsibility of confession. Its not an easy way out and not one I would go to lightly.

But tell me an alternative that works in this case? For those close to his inner circle

I don't doubt for a moment that what you do is a difficult decision and a heavy burden.

Jail time. Point the police in the right direction. I'm betting that they've been on the police's radar before considering who he probably has in his inner circle so I'm sure they'll be happy to swoop them off the streets. Is it the best course of action? I don't know. Will they get out in a few years? Maybe. But that's the justice system we have and we should try and use it.

I am the Mother Confessor. And Confession is not something I give lightly.

Its not good enough, they'll go to jail and they'll learn to be worse, more dangerous, and they'll be freed to continue before too long

So then how many people are you going to confess? What draws the line between doing that to one criminal but letting the others go to jail?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

The line is knowing the difference between those who relished the hurt and the kill and will do so again and the petty criminals caught up in the grab for power. I expect there won't be many who deserve to be confessed

I don't think I'll ever agree to that being the best case scenario, but I'm hardly the only voice involved in this and I have a feeling majority rule is going to win this round.

We should speak more then. I would very much like for people to understand what it is I do and why I do it.

But of course I am more than happy to abide by the rules of the majority
