WHO: James and OPEN
WHERE: The pool!
WHEN: About 2 PM
WHAT: Random fun times?
STATUS: OPEN
Ratings: TBD

James would never tell her it to her face but he was quite sure that the second he'd read her post, he was quite certain that she had became his favourite relative. Okay, favourite cousin. Rose was quite genius, something he would never tell her either, at times and he personally thought the pool idea was one of her best suggestion. Which honestly wasn't saying much of anything, given the number of times her ideas would annoy him when they were children.

But this? This he liked. Not only the end result-although James fully planned on making use of it one late night with Claire-but the making of it. He'd always been terribly fascinated with how things were structured together. Coming from having Arthur Weasley as a grandfather and a propensity for taking things apart when he was younger. Therefore watching the different magics go together to make a pool with chairs and tiles and even a little sandy area was an absolute blast.

Sadly, and strangely enough, the day of the pool being made (aka as yesterday) James hadn't gotten a chance to enjoy it. Too distracted by other things. Also known as, making himself a bigger nuisance around the kitchen and Claire. He bloody well loved this heating situation. However, now, James was sticky and as much as he could be ever the optimist-especially when he set his mind to it-he wanted to cool down. He was English. Kansas was warm enough for his taste. Honestly, if Rose hadn't thought up the pool suggestion, he would have ended up spending more time in his room with a cooling spell or in a shower rather than being outside enjoying the scantily clad men and women.

Padding bear-feet to the pool, in swim trunks. James noticed that no one was around. He was rather sure that it would only be a matter of time before that changed. Setting his wand down in a safe place, James got a running start before jumping straight into the pool. He couldn't see to judge himself but he was quite certain that the resulting splash had been damn impressive.

When he surfaced again there was applause, though it was only one set, followed by: "Not bad, but lemmie show you how it's really done." The girl standing at the edge of the pool was pretty, in a too-perfect and almost scary kind of way, rather as if someone had managed perfection, and then turned it up to 11. Big eyes, full lips, smooth skin and a whole body made of utterly predatory angles and lines.

Her hair was pulled back into two low braids, one behind each ear, and the tattoo along her brow and down her cheek, three snakes, twining against each other in an intricate knot, was still at the moment. Her swimsuit was basic black, somehow classy, even with keyhole sides.

She took a deep breath, taking a half step back before launching herself into the water as well, tucking her knees to her chest almost at the last moment and sinking like a stone. The splash was impressive, as if made by something a lot heavier than she should have been.

James hadn't been expecting the clapping when he he surfaced. However, because he was a normal human male and well, because he was James, he grinned widely at the applause. He couldn't help grinning a bit more when he saw who it was. However, that was all that happen. Not even much of an appreciative look. Although there was plenty to appreciate. Not even the strange tattoo kept her from being a stunningly, good-looking woman. However, the entire fact that he had a Claire was surprisingly good at keeping his appreciative glances at other females rather short in glancing. He might know what he and Claire were exactly but James was loyal.

When she said she could do better, James quirked a slightly challenging brow. He looked a bit doubtful but he knew better than to judge a woman, whether on size or general appearance. After all look who his family was? And his house had been Gryffindor. Full of females who liked to defy the norm. On his final year his Head Girl had been a Ravenclaw who should have been a Slytherin. He knew who Minerva McGongall was. And if all of that hadn't managed to stamp it out of James that girls could do anything boys could do if not better ... well, being in this place for the better part of a year DID tend to do that. Which was why his doubtful look was brief and why he moved back slightly to give her some room.

James hadn't expected the splash she had made; however. Not at bloody all. "What the bloody hell!?" He exclaimed as he managed to rub some of the water off his face and eyes. "Was that!?" It wasn't quite clear if he wanted to be impressed or irritated. With James, right now, it could go either way.

Shay was still underwater through the near tirade, but she laughed once she surfaced, sweeping a hand over her head to sluice the excess water out of her hair, "Practice?" It was partly that and partly just knowing what angle to strike at and how to maximize contact for the biggest splash.

She shook her head then, ducking it again to at least get her hair all going the same direction this time, "I could try to teach you, but I'm not too good at that." She shrugged, "I'm Shay, haven't seen you around."

James narrowed his eyes slightly before nodding slowly. That was a good enough answer for him. It made sense.

Slowly a grin curved his lips. He understood that. James sometimes had the tendency of leaving people behind whenever he attempted to teach them something. Although there were plenty of moments he hit more than missed; he just tended to be a better leader than educator. "It'd be bloody wonderful to do one as large as that but I understand. I don't believe you have. I'm James."

"Nice to meet you." She said, treading water, arms swishing easily through the water, keeping herself afloat without expending too much energy, "I should get out more. Mostly I keep to myself, bad habit."

That and she was used to being able to contact people just by opening up the connection that was hardwired into her head, it still hit her from time to time just how alone she really was here.

"You should." James said, friendly encouragement in his words. "We're a friendly bunch for the most part. None of us bite." He grinned crookedly. Though a few of them could hit rather viciously. "Reckon you should spend more time in the community kitchen. You'll meet a lot of people there." Likely it didn't occur to James that people had other things to do rather than eat. Though in his opinion he managed to multitask, spending time with family, Claire, work, and eating and meeting new people quite well.

She smiled crookedly at that, shaking her head, "I've been a couple times, I don't really do well with being enclosed for long periods of time." She shrugged, "I prefer outside, hell, I'd sleep on the roof if it was an option." In fact, she had slept on the roof once or twice, when things got really bad and she needed to get away from everyone inside.

James blinked slighty. Before nodding. He could see how so many people around and enclosed spaces could be overwhelming. He didn't understand it but he could sort of see it. Mostly because he'd friends that said as much to him whenever they came to family events. Not the sleeping on the roof bit but the preferring it outside. James could only assume that in her case it was because of all the people. James loved having a lot of people around. "You should ask one of the people in charge about that." He shrugged. "Or about having a floor to yourself or something."

She tilted her head, blinking at the suggestion, "I hadn't thought of that, the floor to myself thing." She shook her head a moment later, "I don't know though, wouldn't want to cause any trouble, my room's fine, and I know how to get to the roof if I need some air." In fact she'd gotten quite adept at shimmying out her window and simply wall-climbing to the roof.

She shook her head again, "Might ask about setting up a lean-to or something on the roof though, that might work pretty well, actually. I'm used to roughing it."
