Who: Fred and Marian
What: Meeting
Where: Kitchen
When: Afternoonish
Rating: Doubtfully very high
Status: Incomplete

Fred never, ever wanted to see a Twinkie again. For that past couple of days, she'd had an intense craving for food of any kind and the sweet cake-like thing had become her favorite. She knew, embarrassingly enough, where that feeling had come from too. She'd been high, or something like high. Someone had gotten her high, most likely those rocks they'd been talking about on the boards. Kryptonite. But she didn't remember ever picking up a rock and the effects had worn off.

Her fridge was extremely empty since she'd eaten nearly everything she'd bought and at least put on five pounds. She felt like it. So after a search turned up nothing in hers, she headed downstairs to the communal kitchen and opened the fridge. She made a triumphant noise as she spotted the carton of orange juice and pulled it out, hugging it to her chest. "Thank you," she whispered and grabbed a glass, pouring it nearly to the top.

After putting the carton back, she took a big drink and felt the miserable feeling in her stomach retreat slightly. "Like ambrosia," she stated to no one. "Godly ambrosia."

"Yeah but it'd be about getting everybody together for the dinner too," she said, slightly excited about the idea. "A big gettogether for everyone to meet everyone else." Of course, that wasn't her area. It would feel like stepping on other's toes but it did sound nice, considering that she was still learning who was in the complex.

"I still need to find a good taco place around here. I haven't had any in a long time. Or it feels like a long time."

"That's a good idea."

It would be good if such a thing was arranged. It would give her a chance to meet new people, meet everyone who lived here. And she really did like that idea.

"Well if you do, could you let me know please? I would like to try one."

The request brought on a soft smile. "Of course. You'll be the first person I tell," she replied. "Then you'll have to let me know what you think about them!"

Finishing off the cracker, she set the open box down on the counter and reclaimed her glass to finish off the rest of the orange juice. "It's very nice to have met you, Marian. I haven't exactly been...social," she said, hesitating only a moment before filling in the word.

"Thank you. And I will. I really do want to experience as much as possible whilst I am here."

Marian finished off her own cracker before taking a sip from the water. She put the bottle back, smiling at Fred's words and nodding.

"It has been nice to meet you too. I am glad to have met someone new." And to have made a friend, she added in her head, not wanting to make Fred feel like she had little choice in the matter. "And I am sorry to hear that."

She wanted to ask if something was bothering her but that was too forward for a first meeting.

Fred grinned. "There will be plenty of things for you to experience while you're here." And hopefully it was the fun stuff. Sure, there was an apocalypse a-brewing on the horizon and craziness around every corner, but that wouldn't be everything they had to show.

She took a sip of the orange juice. Marian's words she found to be very touching. "I'm glad I got to meet someone new too," she said, tilting her head. And one of her childhood literary heroes. That was absolutely surreal.

She waved a hand in the air. "My own choice. But now I'm working on being more social," she added lightly. A work in progress. "With new people showing up all the time, that's not too hard."

"I'm glad. I never had the chance to go anywhere further than Nottingham, so I really do like the idea of seeing and learning of new things."

She nodded, smiling a little. She was glad that Fred didn't appear annoyed by the constant questions and Marian's lack of knowledge about this place. Laughing softly when Fred admitted it was her own fault, Marian kept her gaze on the other woman and smiled softly.

"Well I am glad that I was one of the people who got to speak with you."

She would have loved to have seen Nottingham. The books painted a lovely image but sometimes reality just didn't hold up. So far, Marian was an exception to that. "I know the feeling. When I was growing up, I was in that one area all the time. When I had a chance to broaden my horizons, I was really excited."

Of course, she wasn't as far from home as Marian was. At least, not technically. This version of Kansas was another dimension and a few years ahead of hers, but it had a lot of similarities.

"Thank you," she replied, smiling. Moving over to the fridge, she refilled her glass. "I think I'm going to head back up. If you need any help with the library or just wanna talk, feel free to give me a shout!"

"It is a very nice feeling, to be able to see more than I ever thought possible," Marian said with a smile, agreeing with how Fred said she had felt.

She watched as Fred moved to refill her glass, moving a little to make sure she wasn't in the way. At her offer she couldn't resist the grin as she nodded.

"I will. Thank you for the offer, it is nice to know there is someone I can easily talk to here."

"Of course!" The day she quit being easy to talk to was...well, she wasn't sure what that day would be, but it wasn't going to happen.

With her glass filled, she waved at Marian as she started for the door again. "I'll be seeing you around. Have a good day!"
