Who: The Rogers, Steve and James!
What: Father/son face to face time
Where: Medbay
When: March 27
Status: In Progress
Rating: Most likely low, will update if needed!

James had been in and out of it since the attack on Saturday. Mostly due to the painkillers. But after a few days of sleep and doing nothing he was starting to feel a bit restless. His mother and Torunn came and went as did Clint with Nik but part of him most looked forward to whenever Steve would stop by. He knew he hadn't reached out much since Steve's arrival here. But he remembered clearly calling him Dad the night of the attack. Pain could make a person honest. And he felt bad it had taken that to get him to admit to Steve who he was.

Shifting carefully to sit up, he paused after he was adjusted to catch his breath, hating the fact he had a broken rib. There wasn't much they could do for that other than give him something for the pain. At least he had great genes though. Reaching over, he picked up his gauntlet and studied it, relieved it had survived the strigoi fight. He wanted to show it to Steve. He still had his world's father's shield but carrying that around was anything but discreet. And he wanted to show his father the device that had probably saved his life. Setting it down to the side, he carefully picked up his pudding cup and began eating it slowly and having to adjust the spoon in his hand with his broken fingers.

James nodded some as Steve spoke of how his father died. Hearing that his grandfather had died before Steve had even known him though... His eyes grew empathetic. He had some vague memories of his parents. Which seemed to be more than what Steve had of his father. "It's not," he agreed softly to the story telling. "Tony would tell the four of us stories about the Avengers when we were growing up. The Soldier. The Spy. The Knight, the Archer, the God, the Giant, the King and his weather Goddess..." He shrugged and stared down. "Of the five of us kids, Hawkeye was the luckiest in some ways. He got to know his father before Ultron took him too. But...Torunn's probably the luckiest. Her parents are still alive, just on Asgard since Thor has to rule it."

Hearing that here was the best thing that ever happened, James looked up and smiled a bit. "Yeah. And, it's not like we lose time back home either. When we get sent back it's to the exact spot we were taken from. Least that's what Mom said happened."

He grinned a bit when his father took it and it turned on. "I can throw it but when it leaves the gauntlet's energy source it has a limited time it stays active. But it can grow too. It actually was broken when I came here but a few people who were here, your world's Tony among them, fixed it for me. And your shield too. I took it back from Ultron when we stopped him."

"Sometimes the families you create when you don't have the real ones around are just important. It seems like you decided to be a hero and help people too so it sounds like Tony did right by all of you." Steve couldn't envision a world where the Tony Stark he knew would know how to rise up to that occasion, but then people were full of surprises. And besides, maybe James didn't have a chance to know his family in that world but he did have a chance here. That was something, right?

"Really? So time goes on here but it might be like we never left back home. That's strange.. but I guess kind of reassuring at the same time." It meant the things he'd been in the process of trying to do would still be there when he got back. Bucky, and everything else. That was some good news.

"It has a few more tricks than mine then, huh? Not bad. I'm still glad you have the shield. It means a lot to me. It's one of the few things that's been with me for this whole, strange, path I ended up on. If it's passed on to anybody, I'm glad it's my son. Even if it's a different universe. But have you used it much? Maybe when you're feeling up to it I can show you a few tricks, and you can show me what you can do with this." He raised his arm to indicate the energy shield.

A small flush of shame formed on James' face. "I...didn't actually decide that...none of us did. We didn't have a choice because of me." He looked up and met his father's eyes. "We followed Tony into a secret room and he had these...Iron Avengers there of you guys. I activated them because I thought...I thought maybe they were you but...it just led Ultron to us and Tony got captured. So we had to save him." And it had been his fault. His desperate attempt to get to know his father had led to it. Even if things had worked out, he had still put them all in danger.

James nodded some. "That's what Mom said when she vanished for a month last year. Which works out considering we still have cities back home to free from Ultron and his robots."

He smiled a bit at the compliment on his shield. "A few. I've been carrying both here whenever I've needed to. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. I carry that gauntlet with me always just so I have it just in case, y'know? Your shield isn't exactly discreet," he teased, a grin on his face. "I mean...if I hadn't have had it with me Saturday night I'd've been a snack. But I'm happy yours was able to be repaired. It had gotten damaged in the first fight with Ultron when he..." he paused and looked at Steve. He would find out if he looked James up after all. "When he killed you. The vibranium and adamantium weren't easy to replicate here but Tony and Helena were able to do it."

At the question of using it much, he shook his head. "Not a whole lot in actual combat," he confessed. "I have a parkour course next to the warehouse that I train and stuff in but, well no one here other than me really knows how to use the shield, either shield, so I've sort of been having to learn it on my own." Hearing the offer, James couldn't help but grow a bit excited. "I'd love to. Thing that I had to get use to with your shield is how heavy it is compared to that." He nodded at the gauntlet on Steve's arm. "I mean, that's heavy too but always having the shield on your arm running around and fighting takes a toll. Took me a few months to get use to the weight."
