Communication between them had been a little tense in the last two weeks. Yes, she had overreacted. Perhaps gone a little too far during their argument. But she had been worried and rightfully so. Anything could have happened from the time she had delivered Caroline and Rose to the medbay and when she had returned home. Whoever had attacked them could have returned to ensure that the job was finished. And anyone who stood in his or her way could have become collateral damage. In the two years they’d known one another he should have expected this. If there was one thing that you could depend on it was that if you meant something to Regina she would worry about you. Constantly. Especially here where anything could happen and where they were at the whims of the Seal. Regina had never had friends the way she did here. Okay, not necessarily true. She had a friend like them once but he died. And from then on her track record was terrible. Greg should have known it was coming. Instead he kept baiting her which lead to an argument. One in which she’d informed him that she could raise their son alone. Although she hadn’t truly meant it and had told him as such later. Raising another child alone was the very last thing that she wanted. But still things had been tense between them since then. Any mention or reminder of their argument brought the mood down in their house significantly. Her birthday had gone forgotten. Then again had it not been for Scorpius she wouldn’t have even remembered that it was coming up. One of the many downsides to being pregnant was that she had begun to forget certain things. One minute the thought would be there and the next it was gone. When she had mentioned it to Rose -- the mother figure that she’d been deprived of -- the older woman gave her a knowing look. Because of course she had known this would happen. The woman had given birth to and raised three children of her own. They had spoken about everything that she might experience throughout this pregnancy. And then some. Had she brought it up to Greg he would have undoubtedly given a medical explanation for it. Only now he was gone and she would never hear that explanation. If today had not been their anniversary she wouldn’t have even known until later that day. But it was their two year anniversary and so she had decided to take the entire day off. Her pregnancy prevented them from celebrating it the way she wanted to but they’d find a way to celebrate. Well, as much as one can convince Gregory House to celebrate. She’d awoken before him and purposefully shut off his alarm. He could sleep a little longer while she prepared his surprise. Her gift was more expensive than a two year anniversary gift should be. But he was about to have fatherhood sprung on him and in her mind a motorcycle would make up for that. Nothing was going to ruin her day. Except for the Seal. She had only just walked back into their bedroom when he disappeared right before her eyes. Not a trace of magic in the room though she did search for any sign that someone had broken through her wards and taken him. Then she’d ventured onto the boards and saw that Katherine and quite a few others were suddenly gone. And Regina just knew that the Seal had sent them home. The distraught former queen sat on her bed staring at the ground for awhile before looking out the window. When she saw that the sun was shining she lost it. Her emotions caused her magic -- that she had been using sparingly and keeping at bay -- to explode out of her. Within minutes she had created a storm and her current state only seemed to fuel it. She should have known that she would always be a villain and that villains didn't get happy endings. |
