Who: Buffy and Spike
What: Out on Patrol
When: Last Night
Where: Around the streets of Lawrence
Warnings: None as yet
Status: Incomplete

Buffy had been feeling awkward around Spike since she'd arrived in Lawrence. Before she'd arrived, she'd just watched him die. Watched him sacrifice himself for the world, and for her. And, she didn't know how to handle him being back in her life again. She's told him she loved him, and it hadn't been a lie. She loved the man he'd become. The hero he'd become since he'd gotten his soul.

But, there was always that nagging feeling that it would go wrong. If she actually let him in, he'd leave her. Like, Angel, like Riley. Every man she'd ever loved had left her. It's why she'd sort of avoided him lately. She was afraid, that if she actually let him in. It would all go wrong. Even though, he proved time and time again, that he was always there for her.

But, Buffy knew that she wanted to let him in. See what happened.

All bundled up in winter gear, which was a new look for her. She sat on the wall of the cemetary, waiting for Spike. She had no idea how easy it would be to fight in the crazy thick parka she was wearing. But, this Califoria girl was not used to this weather.

Honestly, Spike hadn't been too shocked when Buffy kept her distance from him. Given how he had gone out back home he could understand. He had made the ultimate sacrifice. Not just for the world but for her. And that girl Cassie had been right. Buffy had admitted to loving him. What kind of love he wasn't sure. And they hadn't really had time to figure it out either. But part of him was hopeful they could figure it out here.

One nice thing about being a vampire was not being affected by the temperatures. So he came waltzing over to Buffy in his usual attire of black jeans and shirt with his long black coat. He grinned a bit when he saw how bundled up Buffy was but had a feeling that wouldn't affect how lethal she could be to the monsters of the world.

"Bit cold pet?" he asked, his eyes amused.

Buffy looked up at his voice. She couldn't help but feel a pang of..well something, when she saw him. She wasn't entirely sure what her feelings for Spike were. What kind of love she felt for him. But, she knew that his presence had an affect on her. And, maybe she owed it to herself, and to him to see what that was.

"Oh, shut up." She grinned back, as she dropped off the wall to the ground. Her eyes roamed over him. Drinking in the sight of him, that she never thought she'd see again.

"So, how've you been?" She started awkwardly, her hands tucked into the pockets of her coat. As she turned to start their patrol.

No matter how Buffy felt about him, Spike knew how he felt about her. He loved her. Now that he had a soul he could love her like she deserved to be loved. Not that she had to accept it. Not with what he had done to her and wanted to do. That would haunt him for the rest of his life. All he could do was to try and make up for it. It was all anyone could do really, making up for their mistakes or wrongs.

He chuckled a bit and shrugged. "Been alright," he drawled. "Was rather happy to have woken up here at night after the Hellmouth." He figured he didn't need further explanation than that. "Did the class bit with the baddies in this world. Seems they got their own kind of vampires here too. Lot easier to turn." He shrugged. "But outside of that, enjoying that wish I made to not get all on fire and dead from the sun."

Oh sure, he could have wished for the ring that would have made him fully invicible but the problem with that, as Buffy had demonstrated, was it could be ripped off in a fight. Spike would rather not leave that to chance in the sunlight.

Buffy knew people would think she was crazy for even giving him a chance after what he'd tried to do. And would have done if Xander hadn't interrupted him. But, she could see how much he'd changed with a soul.

"Yeah, I've been doing those. They're different monsters, but involves the same amount of research mostly" She turned to smile at him. Remembering the look of wonder on Angel's face when he was wearing that ring in the sun. "I think that was the best wish for you."

He nodded some then chuckled a bit. "Oh I bet the old man Giles is having a grand old time researching and studying all these new baddies." Giles did love his books after all. Spike knew though the value of being informed on what you were up against after all.

He glanced at her when she mentioned that was the best wish for him and he arched a brow before shrugging. "Seemed practical. Coulda wished for that ring to make me fully invincible but sodding thing could get ripped off in a fight." He gave her a pointed look and a grin as he shoved his hands in his pockets. "This way too I still got my other vulnerabilities just in case some Seal crap happens and turns me into the big bad."

It could be argued that Spike didn't think all the time, he had admitted to such after all, but with Buffy and the Niblet here, he didn't want to hurt them if something were to make him go evil.

Buffy laughed at that. Mostly because it was actually the first thing that Giles had asked about when he'd arrived. "It definitely seems that way. Although, I'm also quite amused that his welcoming committee was one of the over vamps. And he had no clue. What with it being daylight, and all."

She was actually quite impressed with his forethought. The fact that he thought someone might need to take him down if the seal did something wacky.

"You really thought through it that much?"
