WHO: Sam & Ruby. WHAT: Nothing good. Sam is on red kryptonite! WHEN: Evening. WHERE: Outskirts of Lawrence; then who knows where! RATING: TBD.
Once Sam had heard that there was something strange going on back in Lawrence, Sam decided it was time to make a round trip back to the city. What with Dean getting powers - seriously, what the hell was that? - and some of the others acting strangely, it was called for. Sam wouldn't have been a very good Hunter if he didn't check in on the situation. Additionally, and far more importantly, he would have been a pretty crappy friend and brother if he failed to as well. So, prior to his departure, Sam informed Ruby that there was a situation back in Lawrence that he had to tend to involving Dean and 'ice breath.' What with Ruby being sealed away inside of a trap and doubly protected with the hex bags that he kept inside the motel room, Sam felt confident about her being both safe and unable to escape while he was gone. There were salt lines everywhere, the motel he'd chosen was subtle enough to be ignored by most people, and he had told no one of their location. Entering and exiting the building had been exercised in a very cautious manner; as far as Sam was concerned, the entire area was safe and sound. No way that Ruby was going to be harmed and no way she was gonna escape. That made Sam feel comfortable enough to leave her alone. At least for a few hours at a time.
Having gone through the city limits, Sam noticed that a lot of people in general were behaving oddly. He had stopped at a gas station to fill up on fuel, both in the form of coffee and gasoline, and he had noticed that some people were just...off. The man behind the front desk kept babbling on about people being out to get him and then, a short time after, a woman barreled into the store with a gun blazing on and on about how she was 'done being the victim.' Sam was pretty sure that the store had gotten robbed, but the moment in which the woman was pointing the gun at the paranoid cashier was the exact moment where Sam had blanked out. A few minutes later, alarms were going off and the cashier was cradling himself on the floor, staring up at a half empty cash register.
For some reason, Sam felt no need to aid him. So he just...left. And that's when things began to become a bit more clear.
Rather than going off to see Dean, Sam decided to go back. To Ruby. He probably would have been gone for hours if he had gone all the way to investigate the situation, but Sam cut all of that annoying field work off. He was back at the motel no less than two hours after his initial departure. Upon entering the motel room, Sam immediately kicked the door shut behind him and pulled Ruby's demon killing knife out. "This babysitting you in a trap thing is a real pain in my ass, did you know that? I think it's time to do what I should have done a long time ago." That could have been taken in more than one way, but Sam didn't care. Let Ruby think that he was threatening her. It was kind of funny, wasn't it? Exciting, even. Sam moved over to the trap and raised his knife - for a second, it might have looked like he was going to attack her - but then Sam went down straight for the line and sliced it open. Then he tossed Ruby her knife, flashed her a grin, and stepped back looking more than pleased with himself. "Let's get the hell out of here and do something fun for a change."
