Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:grant ward, skye

Who: Skye and Grant Ward
What: Checking up on him because she's an idiot
When: Sometime after checking on Felicia after this
Where: Ward's domicile
Rating/Warnings: F for Feeeeeeeels? Warnings for Ward being creepy?
Status: Closed and Incomplete

Although she would never admit it to herself, a part of Skye thought maybe Ward was right about emotions being a weakness. People, in general, didn't make you weak, but Skye didn't always think of her compassion as an asset. She wanted to be more like May - able to channel her anger and her pain into a fight but also able to keep her emotions from controlling her. She wanted that ability to remain cool, calm and in control. More than anything, though, she wanted to be able to say she didn't care what happened to Grant Ward and mean it.

Hating him had felt simple. It was easy to hold onto her anger over everything he had done, because that meant she didn't have to feel the other emotions thoughts of his betrayal often brought to the surface. He had been her SO. Her friend. And something more or at least the potential to be something. Ward's admission of having feelings for her had caught her by surprise, but for an instant she had returned those feelings. And then everything had fallen apart as she realized that he had been the one to kill Koenig. He was a traitor to them all. In the months that followed, hating Ward was the only way she got through it without completely breaking down the way she had for those few minutes on the secret base before she'd steeled herself for what needed to be done.

Holding on to her anger proved harder here in Lawrence, though. Ward wasn't locked up in a cell here. He was harder to avoid. And then he had to go and save her life. If that wasn't enough, as she watched their show, she started to feel stirrings of that same compassion that had made her unable to let Deathlok kill him. Some part of her knew that was a weakness. Ward clearly thought it was and yet it seemed to be a trait he admired. It didn't make sense.

Maybe it was the rum or maybe it was just sheer stupidity, but rather than heading for the warehouse after checking on Felicia back at the office, Skye found herself walking toward the place Ward lived. In their earlier conversation, he had admitted to being upset Tony was gone, but not openly. Only to her. Did that make it her responsibility to be his source of comfort? She didn't know. She didn't even know why she was letting herself care and yet she still found herself standing on his doorstep, raising her hand to knock.

"Mmm, yes, beer me, please," she agreed after some thought, "but I'm still going to judge your pantry stocking skills if those are the only two things you have in there."

Skye knew it had been awhile since the banter had been easy between them, but that didn't seem so important right now. Maybe she just didn't want to focus on that stuff tonight. Maybe the part of her that missed him was stronger than the part that constantly warned her to keep him at arms' length. Because he was dangerous. He'd betrayed them all. She'd almost died because of his boss and a lot of people had died because of him. The alcohol burning through her body made those reservations a lot quieter, though.

And the last thing she needed was more alcohol, even if it was only beer, but she wasn't exactly thinking clearly. What she probably needed was some food to soak up the alcohol or some water to rehydrate her. But at present, a beer sounded just fine.

"So, how are you?" she asked, looking around his place. She'd never been here, not since her arrival here in Lawrence. Or her re-arrival, she guessed. She'd been here before, but she didn't remember any of it.

"Only two alcholoic things. I probably eat healthier than you do." he told her, walking across to the kitchen to grab a bottle for Skye. She could have one more. Maybe two. Then he was cutting her off. He didn't really understand what stroke of luck had brought her here to him but he wasn't about to complain either. And ultimately she was safe with him even if she probably soberly wouldn't believe that. He just wasn't ready to give up this Skye that cared about him, asked how he was, visited him. Drunk or not, it was something.

"I'm doing better." he told her, handing her the beer and sitting on the couch near her, not beside her, not yet. That was her choice. "I've been trying to figure out what the hells going on at Stark now that he's gone and y'know, I am making friends. I didn't think I would but it happened and its maybe not the worst thing in the world."

Without warning as he usually did, Glen bounded into the room, awoken obviously by the noise of Skye arriving. Ward smiled, possibly the only genuine smile he had around anyone but Skye and leaned down to fuss him.

"Oh and there's this guy. Meet Glen. Present from Stark. Truth be told I assumed it was a test. Its usually...But he's a great puppy. Growing so much every time I turn around."
