It was starting to edge into the territory of what one might call a date. And the thought terrified him. He did care for her. Deeply. She was up there with Bo and John, Jacen and Tahiri and the twins. The few people who made life in Lawrence worth living. His tiny makeshift family. But caring for someone and wanting to take things in another direction wasn't just a big step for Khan. It would be a first step for him.
He chose his words carefully. Very carefully. The diplomatic leader was rising to the surface. "I have no problem eating with you. I enjoy it. And I do need some sustenance." Though he hesitated, the next words came out of his mouth and surprised even him. "But it would not exactly be terrible to find other ways to spend time together."
It wouldn't go down in history as the most romantic pick-up line ever. But it was out there, in the open, for both of them to consider.
