She smiled at him when he spoke, glad that at least one of the two of them had food for the evening. She knew full well it wasn't the normal wide smile she gave him when she saw him; she didn't really feel like smiling at all but really, this was a thoughtful gesture. And even though she wasn't sure she would be the greatest of company this evening she was glad to see him. Despite her conflicted feelings at the moment spending time with him usually tended to make her happier. Hopefully it would remain the case today.
She took the bag from him and moved out of the way so he could come in. "I hate to admit it, but I'd forgotten to start something for supper, so I'm glad you brought food. It hasn't been one of my better days, I'm afraid." She waited until he was inside to take the food to the kitchen and set the bag on the counter and pull things out. He had indeed gotten exactly what she'd ordered last time, even though she had thought he wasn't paying attention. "Shrimp lo mein," she said, turning to look at him with a slightly wider smile. "Thank you."
