To his credit, Khan wasn't entirely blind to Molly's feelings for him. He simply didn't know what to do about them. He was entirely clueless to his own feelings and wasn't pleased with being unsure how to proceed. Life hadn't always come easily for him, but he did have a good grasp on how to approach it. How to deal with each day as it came. Because until Lawrence, his life was war. His life was fighting and leading and ruling. That didn't happen in Lawrence. Not for him. Oh, he'd led. He'd led the ultimate battle of good versus evil, surprisingly to some on the side of good.
But life...life still went on. Friendships, relationships, normal jobs. And he was trying, he really was. He had people he considered friends. But a normal job? That was difficult. Day to day, same thing going. One crossing of a fine line and it was no different than Markus and the things he'd forced Khan into. And relationships, well. Flirtation, sweet moments between man and woman, none of that had been a part of his life before. Procreation hadn't really been necessary, least of all for him, so he didn't and hadn't and now?
Yet he found himself once again on Molly's doorstep, takeout bag in hand. He wanted to treat her this time. She deserved it, she'd been gone for weeks, had thought him dead (well, he had been...but that was neither here nor there), and had just started a new job of her own. So she deserved a bit of spoiling and he forced himself to push back the nagging in his head that told him there was more behind his motives. Something deeper he hadn't ever allowed himself before now.
But Molly's expression wasn't the usual welcoming smile he was used to and he hesitated. He couldn't get a sense for this and that frustrated him. He wasn't used to being on such shaky ground. This should have been easier.
"I brought you dinner," he offered, motioning to the bag. "Nothing too fancy. What you ordered the last time we went out. I thought you may be too tired to cook tonight..." His voice trailed off as he realized he was rambling. Khan didn't ramble. This was so odd.
