Caroline tried to follow along with what Kol was saying, focusing on his words and ignoring the rest of the world for the moment. It seemed to help her control, finally able to filter out all the noise that had become overwhelming. Vampire hearing had its advantages, but it was like she’d been recently turned again, and had been struggling to keep it all down, to filter out what she didn’t need to hear, and she hated that feeling. That helplessness when being a vampire was supposed to make her stronger, faster, fearless.
She wasn’t feeling much of any of those characteristics at the moment, especially once Kol’s words sunk in. If anything she was feeling dread, that sinking feeling in her stomach that was causing it to churn and if she’d been human still would have made her want to run to the nearest bathroom and heave. Klaus threatening people was never good. Klaus threatening Jesse so soon after he had threatened another teenager was even worse. Especially with all that Tahiri had told her had been happening.
Were people plotting to kill him again? Contain him? Were they doing it for the other Originals as well? Her mind was torn in two, understanding the fear that Klaus could create with his threats and his deeds, that fear the others could create with their need to always protect their brother from his own idiocy, but she saw the other side as well. And she didn’t want them hurt. She didn’t want anyone hurt.
But Kol had said Klaus had spiraled and that meant threats against teenage girls couldn’t have been all that happened. “What happened, Kol?” she demanded, forcing herself to try and remain calm. She would not freak out. Not yet. She would look at this rationally and figure out a solution and then she would kick some ass. She just didn’t know who’s yet.
