Entry tags:endeavour morse, radical edward

Who: Edward, open to Endeavour, Claudia or anyone she's close to that wants to check on her
What: Edward thinks its the pizza guy but its really the Devil messing with her mind
Where: Her apartment in the complex
When: September 24, that night
Status: Incomplete
Rating: PG-13 just to be safe (Cowboy Bebop spoilers for "The Real Folk Blues" are very possible along with Ed having a massive meltdown)

When Edward heard the footsteps she was sure it was only the pizza guy with the large pepperoni pizza she had ordered. But when she found a decent sized box her curious nature got the better of her,"Could be those parts for the security cameras arriving ahead of schedule?" she mused as she got the box inside and opened it up. That was when she smelled mushrooms,"I did not order those for my pizza." and was shocked to find a box full of the veggie. It reminded her of her time on the Bebop and trading the woolongs for a big bag of mushrooms that sent Spike, Jet and Faye into massive trips. "I was 12 and had no idea." she hissed as she dumped the mushroom from the box to find something even worse. Spike's trademark blue suit jacket was at the bottom of the box. It was frayed, torn to bits and was soaked in blood. "The rumors were true." before letting out a scary scream that the hacker would have not done in normal times.

It was proof a voice from her past was dead.

But she had enough presence to type out a broken message on the network before hitting a massive meltdown of memories and rumors of her past.

Endeavour hurried to her place. He had told her twenty minutes but he got there in ten. She had told him about her past, about Faye and Jet and Spike. He had not understood all of it, but he had understood enough to know they were her family. He went to knock on her door but it opened beneath his touch. "Edward?" he asked, stepping inside.

He went to her the moment he saw her. She was on the floor, and curled up to boot. "Edward," he said gently, kneeling next to her. He wasn't sure how to comfort her right now. To have held onto hope for so long and have it crushed would break just about anyone. He finally just reached over and pulled her against him in a hug. "Everything will be all right," he murmured.

"I should have known he was dead. The rumors were one thing but his jacket is something else." Ed was able to finally choke out after what felt like forever and was not able to let go of the jacket. She had shared her time onboard the Bebop with Endeavour over the last few weeks: mostly old bounty heads but she also shared stories of the family she made onboard from Jet and the trees to Spike's always working on the Swordfish 2 between hunts. She also had shared some of the rumors flying about Spike maybe being alive post the Red Dragons going down in flames. "The mushrooms just added insult to my misery, I was 12 during that hunt!"

He kept her close, smoothing back her hair. He had never thought he was good at comforting people but he had to try with her. He could not allow her to fall apart, not now. He shut his eyes for a moment, unsure of what to do next. "I am so sorry," he said quietly.

Edward's eyes were rimmed in red by this point, Spike's jacket had tossed her over the emotional cliff. But for a moment the rational side took over as a plan formed in her spinning mind,"Thanks, was not sure if anyone understood. But the sooner the mushrooms are tossed the better." she decided. The jacket was a minefield emotionally and she needed a third party to decide what should be done. But the sooner the jacket was gone the sooner the rational would return and the sooner she could deal with everything it reminded her of.

"I will get rid of them for you," he said as he let go of her. The mushrooms had scattered on the floor, and he picked them all up, putting them back into the box he supposed they had come in. He set it aside for the moment; he would dispose of them away from her apartment when he was sure she was okay.

He went back to her when he was done. She was still clutching the jacket tightly. He wasn't sure if he should try and take it from her "What do you need me to do?" he asked, moving closer to her. "Whatever you need me to do, I shall do."

That was when a moment of rational thinking took over and Edward finally let go of the jacket. She finally could speak,"I was flying on rumors, just knew the Red Dragons had to go down in flames to borrow the expression. Had no idea for years if Spike was even alive since the rumors were all over the place." as more of the story came into the light. But once the mushrooms were gone she was able to see things more clearly,"The mushrooms meanwhile must be from the job where I traded the woolongs for the food, I was a kid at the time." Once the jacket was gone she would be seeing what happened for what it was, a trick by the devil.

He took the jacket from her and put it into the box as well. He would find a way to get rid of them permanently. He thought he had seen someone else offer, one of the supers as they were called. He would ask him to dispose of this cruel gift for him. And he needed advice on what to do. Once she was calm then he would ask.

He went back over to her once he put the box out of sight. He got her off the floor and onto her sofa as she spoke. "How long did you think he was alive?" he asked. He reached over for her hand as he waited for a response. The questions about the mushrooms could keep for the moment; letting her talk about Spike would be better right now.

Edward's hand slid into Endeavour's, she was badly shaken by the jacket and mushrooms but she was becoming more rational now. "The rumors got fast and furious after I turned 18, figured he had simply gone underground after everything with the Red Dragons." she filled in more blanks. "So from a couple of months after I turned 18 till now, so about 4 maybe 5 years of wondering if he was still out there. I still wonder about Jet and Faye too, it was like everything Bebop went off the radar to borrow the expression." she mused. "I was part of a band of hunters that sent the Red Dragons down in flames to borrow another expression, it was more personal given the rumors ramping up. That happened when I was 22, no sign of him after that beyond a few random flashes while on jobs but never could confirm anything. Granted he had pulled the vanishing act a few times before but now its different, a jacket I know well drenched in blood anyone?" a touch of bitterness in her voice now. "But part of me is sure he knew about the Red Dragons being brought down."

She mused,"I should be more rational than this, I know now it was a trick but used a part of my past against me. The Bebop was really the only family I knew for a couple of years."

[OOC: Endeavour hasn't told her everything, in response to Kol's post. He hasn't told her everything about his two failed relationships.]

He listened to her story. To hold onto that for so long, and then to take down the people who she had believed had killed her friend? And to lose everyone she knew to be family? That had to be hard to take. If there had been more people from his life that he cared about he might have taken it harder when he looked into what had happened when he disappeared. even if Lucifer sent him reminders, he did not think it would hit him as hard as this had hit Edward.

He linked his fingers in hers more. "You do not need to be rational. He's messing with your head, yes, but it's to be expected you would be shaken up. That's the whole point of his sick and twisted gifts. He wants fear and pain from all of us. Anger too." And right now, anger was what he had. He planned on letting Lucifer himself know just how angry he was. But Edward didn't need to know this, not now. Not ever.

(ooc: my bad! But Edward's not going to push for details till he's ready to spill, she's got faith in what they have now and that's not changing. Kol's not going to get to her if she has her say.)

"Rational and computers has kept me sane for the longest time." Edward confessed. She revealed,"You should have seen me during my Bebop days, let's just say what people call quirky now would have had me seen as insane then." spilling another tiny part of her past. A few quiet tears escaped, while she was more rational and calmer her emotions were still on the edge. "Lucifer knew that jacket would be a sucker punch." she whispered as her fingers linked more into his. That was when a moment of sparkle bloomed, the real Edward came back. "May not be totally rational much less thinking right but want to get out of Lawrence for the weekend? Get some distance from that box among other things?" That was when she took a pretty big leap of faith and whispered into Endeavour's ear,"You're not in this alone either, you pulled me from the edge and I'll do the same in a heartbeat."

He was quiet for a moment. He was keeping something from her and he hated it. He had told her bits and pieces of his life, mostly after his time as a student in Oxford. But he hadn't told her about her, or the encounter with Alice. He was not the type for a one night stand, never had been. He had wanted more, but she hadn't. Still, it ate at him. But this was different. He had to try to not let himself overthink things.

He shut his eyes when she got close, taking her words in. He had to hope she understood, when he told her. If he told her. He knew he should, he wanted to, but still. Would she accept him knowing he probably would ruin this burgeoning relationship just as he had the others? That he was very much afraid he would end up old and alone and bitter, hating the world and life just as much as his father had? Or worse, he'd be a carbon copy of that man? He didn't know how to put it into words, and he didn't know if he should.

But she had invited him to go away with her. He had to admit, it sounded like a good idea. Yes, there was a war about to be fought, and yes, they should probably be around for it, but it was tempting. And he was not sure if the opportunity would come again. "I will go away with you," he said quietly. "But I think it might be best if we do not wait for the weekend. The sooner I get you away the better I will feel. Where do you want to go?"

"The sooner the better, especially given that box." Edward nodded in agreement. She was still badly shaken by the jacket and it showed,"Maybe just into Kansas City for a long weekend? Enough time for me to get some distance emotionally from the jacket and enough time for some hopefully war free fun and bonding." she offered. But the red rimmed eyes were proof the jacket had done its damage along with the mushrooms.

"Then we can leave tomorrow," he said with a nod. He looked over at the box. He wanted to get rid of it as soon as possible, get it out of her sight. He hated seeing her like this. He just wasn't sure what else to do other than get rid of the gift and take her out of town. He just hoped it help. "I'm going to get rid of that box for you."

He got up and went over to the box, picking it up. "I'll be right back," he said. "I promise." He took the box out of her apartment and went to the garbage chute. Hopefully this evil gift would not come back to haunt her. When he was finished he went back to her apartment. "Do you not want to be alone tonight?" he asked her as he sat next to her again. "I can stay as long as you want."

Edward could only nod, emotionally spent by the box but the memories she had been trying to put behind her (mostly of the mushrooms). "Please? I know being alone will not help things, I'll overthink and it'll just get worse. The memories I mean." she whispered. But a tiny glimmer of the real girl peeked through as her hand slid back into Endeavor's,"This weekend will be good for us."

He moved his hand out of hers after a moment and quickly put an arm around her shoulders, pulling her closer to him. "Things will be fine, Edward. I promise." He would try his damndest to keep that promise to her. He did not want to see her hurt any more. She was important to him.

"Perhaps you should get some rest," he said after they had been like that for a bit. "It might help if you do. The chance to not think would be a good thing. And if you have unpleasant dreams, I can be close. I do not have to go home tonight."
