WHO: Radical Edward & Endeavour Morse
WHAT: Escaping the complex and its tension
WHERE: Complex lobby to start
WHEN: Saturday night
WARNINGS: Tame given these two but the emotional edge is there.

After the brief exchange on the comm with Endeavour Edward was shutting down her computer bank for an escape from the tension. She could feel the psychic edge looming fast and furious and if she was being totally honest it was too scary for her liking at the moment. So the idea of escaping with a newfound friend and fellow fish out of time was just the answer. He felt the tension like she did and to be honest knowing at least one person understood it was major at the moment. "Like I'm not in this crazy war alone. Plus he does not talk down to me, major plus." she mused while changing into jeans and one of her many vintage tee shirts.

But at the same time the hacker was actually liking him since he was one of the first actual friends she made in this time period. "Satellite from days of old, keep the phone updated if something breaks." sliding the slim iPhone into her purse before leaving an "out of tech HQ" notice on her white board. After locking up and grabbing her peacoat she walked into the lobby with Iphone and purse in hand (she always planned for everything) and called,"Morse? The tech shut down went quicker than I expected." But in a first she had left not only her laptop behind but the smaller model that went on jobs was still in the apartment.

Endeavour was not a fan of this era, or this country, and especially not this town. There was too much danger here, too much drama, and things had come to a head recently. With nothing but time on his hands he spent a lot of it on his computer, following the threads on the boards. He was learning a lot about people he had never met. It was an old habit, he supposed. Doing research. But even he needed a break every so often.

Edward was the only real friend he had here. Claudia was friendly, but she had her own issues to deal

with. He had seen she was friends with one of the men chosen by Death and so he had held off on making any more overtures of friendship. But with Edward it was different. She understood what it meant to be ripped from one era and thrown into another. He appreciated her perspective on the whole situation more than she knew.

One of the few things he did like about this era was the less restrictive and more informal mode of dress. He was dressed in jeans and a T-shirt with the type of sweater referred to as a hoodie on over his shirt, unzipped. He turned when she approached and gave her one of his rare smiles. "The last time it took you twenty minutes. I'm quite impressed."

A smile escaped Edward at that,"I was oddly surprised it was not taking as long, that last set of upgrades must have done the trick." making sure to use the lingo Endeavour understood. Granted after spending most of the day online trying to piece the growing puzzle together even she had to log off and it showed, the added stress had only added to things. She knew their worlds were different but they had fighting crime in common, granted via different means, and it made her feel less alone. She whispered in case anyone was around,"It feels like a knife can slice through the complex any second now, my day online was proof."

"That bad?" He asked before making his way to the doors, knowing she was in step beside him. The things she could do with her computers astonished him. Coming from an era where typewriters were top of the line technology and computers were in the realm of science fiction he was sure even the basics would impress him, but he also knew Edward's skills were highly impressive in her own era. He was thankful she was patient when it came to explaining all her computer jargon. Someone who did not treat his ignorance derisively was a wonderful thing.

He led them out to the sidewalk and turned in the direction of the park. He took the opportunity to study his friend. She seemed careworn and less energetic than normal. This concerned him. Perhaps she needed this trip out of the complex more than he did. He just hoped it helped.

"It felt that way." Ed observed. She had slung on her coat before joining Endeavour outside. She could smile thinking of the night she had motored past that parking lot, her backpack full of supplies and gear causing more than a few questions. But just getting out of the complex was a good thing since Ed's usual smile was coming back along with the sparkle in her eyes. "Only way I could explain it was the aftermath of a bounty gone bad. Could even feel it just scanning the comm." having shared a few stories from her world and era during their prior time away from the complex. But that also proved there was a heart behind the brainpower and that she had feelings, usually more well hidden since Ed was always trying to be seen for her brains. "Its like the current crisis tripped a lot of buttons to borrow the expression." but glimmers of the real Ed were coming back as she spoke, the break being a good thing. Maybe all she needed was the time offline among other things.

"I see," he replied with a slight nod. He frowned a bit. He imagined that feeling she had would be akin to a nasty outcome of his last case if he hadn't gotten the others to calm down so he could get the truth out. People would have been hurt or killed needlessly and lives would have been ruined. He was worried that things might get very ugly very quickly.

"I do not like this entire situation," he continued as they walked. He was careful to speak only when there was no one nearby. "The more research I do the more hopeless it seems. We might win this war, possibly, but at great cost. And I do not know how many would be willing to pay it."

"At least with me when the bad bounty vibe happens I just know its going to turn ugly and quick." Ed mused as they walked. She had only shared portions of her past (mostly more amusing bounties) but had shared tiny portions of the saga against the Red Dragons, a fight she only joined after rumors hit about Spike. "Right now I'm in total agreement, its only going to turn ugly and fast." she came clean about her own ongoing fears. "I'm just cyberspace girl, I wonder why the seal decided to plant itself on that space gate in the first place." just getting her doubts into the open was actually helping.

He thought for a moment. "Perhaps your skills with a computer will come in handy," he mused. "I know that Claudia has some similar skills, but she seems to make a study in multiple forms of technology whereas you concentrate mostly in computers and the secrets you can pull from cyberspace. Perhaps that skillset will be needed at some point."

He looked over and saw they were at the entrance to the park. "Your skills are more suited for this war than mine," he continued. "I am merely a disillusioned policeman who has no desire to return to his former life. There are others better at deduction here. I mean, we have Sherlock Holmes here." He paused. "Several of them, as a matter of fact."

"It makes sense." Ed nodded. "Because right now I'm not even sure which was is up or why the seal decided to plant itself on that space gate in the first place." thinking of the night she had taken that left to only find herself in a parking lot. But his statement only made Ed offer something at the same time. "Like me you're trying to find a place in a way you don't understand. But I think of it this way: maybe as fish out of time we are meant to find each other, to make this a little easier to take and not be left in the battlefield alone. You may be a cop in doubt and I'm a hacker without a crew but maybe there is something more than meets the eyes. Maybe the seal decided we both need that little something more after all."

He thought about it a momentas they walked into the park. He didn't like the idea of some cosmic force controlling his every move, but he had ended up here and that was telling enough in its own right. And it wasn't all bad, he had to admit. Edward was different from any woman he would have met in his own time, and he quite enjoyed the bond they had. So that was a plus.

"I suppose you have a point," he said, moving into the park. "I imagined things might have turned out very differently if someone else had found me. I was not quite as sociable where I was from. You seem to have broken me out of my shell. I'm grateful for that. I had a rather lonely existence where I am from." He gave her a solid and warm smile. "Thank you for that."

That was when Edward took a major leap of faith in a very small way. She simply offered Endeavour her hand,"The feeling is mutual. You pulled me into an actual life outside of gadgets, keyboards and computer screens and making me seen I'm more than the girl with the laptops." she finally got the words out. But her own smile regained its sparkle as she spoke. "Maybe we did not asked to be dumped into war but I think fate gave us one major break in finding each other in that parking lot, we're not alone anymore."

He held her hand tightly and took a step closer to her. He wasn't quite sure what was going on between them, but he was simply going to wait and see. This here, holding her hand...it felt nice. Recently he had tried to let someone close and it had not gone well. He hoped opening himself up again would not lead to another rebuff.

"I think that is the only kindness fate has given us right now," he said, shifting his grip so their fingers were entwined. "But I'm glad for it. Meeting you was the best thing I think could have happened to me. You understand, and you don't treat me like an imbecile. And..." He paused. "And when I talk to you I feel better about things. I haven't smiled all day, until this walk."

That moment when Endeavour linked his fingers into hers was proof Ed's leap of faith had paid off. It had scared her but a little voice in her head had taken over and she knew it was time to take a chance on faith. That was when she turned off her spinning brain and trusted her heart,"As am I." she was finally able to speak. "You don't see me for less because of my wanting to be seen for my brain over my looks. You get what its like to be tossed into a time not your own. So while fate had me motor by that night I like to think it dealt me an amazing hand in the process. Plus I'm smiling for the first time in hours." as her smaller hand squeezed his.

He ducked his head down slightly. "I have told you about my past, which I do not usually do willingly. And you have listened and not judged. So the least I could do for you is accept you as you are and not judge you as well. It's only fair. If more people acted that way the world would be a better place, I think."

He lead the way into the park. "Since we both seem to be in a better mood since we're out and together, let's talk about something else. Anything else. I know when the evening is over we'll go back to brooding over things beyond our control, and I want to enjoy my time with you today." He moved just a little bit closer to her. "Besides, there must be something we haven't talked about yet that doesn't depress us."
