Who: John Watson and Rose Tyler
What: Confessions of the Sherlock Holmes variety
When: Thursday evening
Where: 221B Baker Street-Complex Edition
Warnings: Language, probably, and maybe some disturbing imagery

It was a little strange for her to be leaving the room she'd been living in since John had finally relented to giving up Sherlock's old room. Granted she didn't always sleep there. She still had her room on the TARDIS, she stayed over with Guy many nights, and there were even nights where she just needed to be alone and she slept in her old flat. But that's where she was staying now because now, someone needed that room in John's flat far more than she did. As she tucked the blankets around Bo, she found herself wondering more and more about the little girl's life before arriving in Lawrence. The fact that Rose typically hid her pain pretty damn well and yet the child had still picked up on it said a lot. And the dreams... Always the dreams.

She came out of the bedroom and into the living room, off into the kitchen. The pair had fallen into companionable silence long ago, habit of living together and knowing each other so well. So she knew how to approach him with most things. Almost all things.

Almost.

But this? This was complicated. This was difficult and would take careful edging. Because she knew John loved his friend, had missed him horribly. But she also knew that if the Seal dropped her version of the Doctor on her doorstep yet again, she'd be reluctant to get too close. There were only so many times you could lose someone before it hurt too much to love again. Particularly when it was the same someone. And both Rose and John knew what that was like.

Without even asking, she poured herself a cup of tea from the kettle on the stove and then carried it over to John's cup, topping his off without so much as a word. When she returned the kettle, she took her usual spot beside him on the couch, the spot that lately had been filled in the middle by a little girl with lots of questions. Now it was empty, except occasionally Toby's head sitting there, waiting for attention. "She's asleep," she announced needlessly. Which wasn't what she'd come over to talk to him about. But it was easier. And she needed more time. Desperately.

John really hadn't wanted a kid, he still didn't so much. Kids sort of made him uncomfortable, and Bo's gift made him even more so. Yet he didn't know how to hide his pain or change it, so he just didn't mention it when it was brought up. He didn't want to talk about it and even less so with a child.

He'd been relaxing on the couch a bit when Rose came over with tea. It wasn't anything to raise alarm to, tea was often a comfort in their flat. John set his laptop aside on the small table that rested beside the couch and looked up at her. "At least someone sleeps in this household." He said with a faint smile. He had not been getting very much lately, not that it was anything new for him.

He reached for the tea and sipped it. Things had been tense since the anniversary of Sherlock's death, and he felt bad. He was glad to have Rose over. Like things were normal again. Normal was something he needed. Sipping at his tea he took a breath and relaxed a little more. Reaching down to pat his needy dog on his head every now and then, he just enjoyed her presence. "Missed you since she moved in." He admitted with a small smile.

It wasn't the same. It wasn't the girls fault, but John wasn't very good at change. It was taking him some adjustment. But he was getting there. He liked her enough so that helped. She was an interesting little kid. He just had zero experience with them.

"Not like I was home all that much anyway," she reminded him, leaning over to nudge him slightly with her elbow. It was just so good to see him smiling. She'd been afraid he was angry with her when, in her heart, she knew he was angry with everyone. The world in general. The Seal. Sherlock, Moriarty, anyone involved in him losing someone once again. But it had hurt to be pushed away as much as she had and she was having to get settled back again.

Settling back into the cushions, she sipped at her tea, trying to judge his mood. She'd promised Kat she'd tell him. But that didn't make this an easy task. Maybe they should have made Florence do it. Or maybe Kat herself should have since she was the one who hadn't wanted John stumbling on the post himself. But no, he was her flatmate-technically-and one of her closest friends. She could do this.

"John... I've got a question. And it isn't a fun one, and I'm sorry for that. But it needs to be asked."

Because no, that wasn't ominous at all.

"Statement stands.." He said with a half shrug and leaned back against the couch with his tea. There were few people he could relax with like this, Rose was on the short list. He felt like he didn't have to pretend to be anyone else but him, even if that person wasn't all that much fun to be around at times. She still put up with him. It was nice, different than home. Home wasn't a thing he was ready to go back to any time soon. Whether it meant by extension of people from home or being returned via seal. He just didn't think he could go back to being that lonely. When he went back he still wouldn't have Sherlock, and ontop of that he wouldn't have the friends he made in Kansas, he was grateful for them even if he didn't often say it.

His mood was decent enough, though he was a bit tired from having Bo around. She took more energy than maybe even Sherlock on his bad days, and he wasn't sure how to deal with it just yet. He was however starting to see her as a mini Sherlock, just more stable. Maybe he could apply the same techniques he used to take care of Sherlock to take care of Bo, just without the alcohol or other substances kids shouldn't have. It wasn't like she was terribly naive, he shouldn't have to worry too much about her fragile psyche. She seemed to know even more than most adults did.

"Shoot?" He looked over at her in concern. "Assuming it isn't literal." A half smile on his face. Hint of humor, it was obvious he knew she wouldn't for real. But the tone worried him.

Her eyes rolled at his 'literal' comment when it came to shooting. As if she'd ever. Even on their worst days, she wouldn't even joke about it. There'd been more than enough shooting in his life, thank you.

For a long moment, she simply watched him. He was finally back on track and she felt like a terrible person for making it even possible that he'd go spiraling back down. Or maybe they were all wrong. Maybe he'd be grateful to have Sherlock back. There was really only one way to know.

"You've been avoiding Sherlock lately. Both of them, I suppose." Though she didn't know the more modern one that well. "And well... I guess I just wondered... What you would do if the Seal brought yours back. The Sherlock from your world. It wouldn't be the first time we lost someone here and they came back, you know?"

Oh, she was going to hell for this. Acting as if it wasn't already fact. As if he wasn't there, posting for the world to see, hiding from John only because his friends had told him to.
