Good, Helena was able to smile even now, despite the strain of this week, everything that had happened the year before as well as in her own world, her own time. She was seeing the good in her life and not letting the darkness and pain overwhelm her. It was always a risk with Helena, a risk with anyone. And given previous things that had happened, even now Svetlana worried. Even after she had come back, it had taken a lot for the Russian woman to see that Helena meant it when she wanted to fix what had gone wrong. That she wasn't taking their friendship for granted, that she wasn't going to shove her advice aside and instead self destruct.
The change had been obvious to Svetlana even if Helena hadn't seen it herself. Yes, she'd been worried following everything, waiting for Helena to just go back to how she'd been before, unable to move forward, refusing to deal and instead putting herself in danger. Ignoring those who cared about her, thinking they'd simply be there, no question asked. Or she just hadn't cared if they'd be unable to maintain a friendship that way and thus she was fulfilling her self prophecy. Either way, this was a good change, both from her time back in her world, and being with Emily, with Oswin, with people in general and letting herself be close to them.
"Well, that is certainly something to hold onto. Even when you are not writing."
The feeling of belonging was always a good thing. It was a feeling that Svetlana didn't have at present. She knew that with time, she would find a place in Lawrence again. After all, it hadn't even been two full days that she'd been back. How could she think she would find that niche right away when she had two years to sort through in her mind, real, alternate, curses, pain, love, relief, fear. It was a lot, and she was thankful that Helena had never asked how she was. Because there was no simple answer to that.
Still, Helena proved it was possible to return, to find a place again. Yes, she still had Emily whereas Svetlana was without her daughters for the first time since they were born for an unknown amount of time. Life had gone on as it always would and finding a place when the place she'd finally found was no more, well. It would take time. She just didn't like waiting. She didn't like sitting idle and uncertain.
But that wasn't important at the moment. Ensuring Helena was okay was, which it seemed she was coming out of the dark thoughts that had been plaguing her. She was reminded of the good, holding onto it, had a way to process that had slipped her mind because of how obvious it had been. And that would be enough for now.
