"Uh, yes." He managed to reply to her without stuttering or staring at her too much. William was unsure if he should go into further detail about his new occupation or whether she would find that to be him bragging. But more than anything else, there was the urge to let Lizzie in, a feat that terrified and exited him. "Today was my first day at Stark Industries."
God, he sounded like an idiot. Not only was that pretentious sounding, but he didn't even know if Lizzie had a job. What if she didn't and this set her off? He prepared himself mentally for the potential fallout of his words.
To say that William was shocked that Elizabeth Bennet hadn't attempted to run away at full speed at his words was an understatement. He knew with certainty that the Lizzie he left in that town car had tolerated him; he somehow managed to make her laugh and smile, and it was an accomplishment he was yearning to fulfill again and again. Especially since this was their last chance. He wouldn't see her back home again.
"Gigi was quite adamant about coming to this particular shop. Perhaps her judgment can be trusted." He still felt stiff and uncomfortable as he felt his phone vibrate. "Excuse me, Lizzie," Darcy muttered as he looked at the screen. Shaking his head, he typed out a quick reply before sighing. "I'm afraid that my sister is crazy."
