Though Mick would never own up to it, he had been watching the clock. It wasn’t because he was obsessed with others’ punctuality, but rather because he’d been looking forward to the meeting. Granted, he didn’t look or act like a little kid waiting for Santa Claus to arrive, but it was something he’d been looking forward to nonetheless. When he heard the knock on his apartment door he made his way over and opened it without so much as a ‘who is it?’. He gave Beth a faint but still welcoming smile.
“Hey,” His smile broadened slightly as he greeted her. Mick stepped to the side just slightly to give her space to enter the apartment. He reached over to a small table that stood next to the door for her coffee and held it out for her. “Black. I hope it’s okay.” He’d silently scolded himself for not asking how she took her coffee. With nothing like sugar or milk in his pantry, there was little he could do to remedy things if he’d gotten it wrong.
There were a few places to sit in his apartment. Thankfully, it had come with basic furnishings or the apartment would have been mostly bare. Mick hadn’t accumulated enough wealth to do much of anything in Lawrence. With his private investigation business just budding, he lived off of what he made from working at the MedBay. First and foremost he was saving for a freezer to sleep in. Everything else came after that. Maybe he’d be able to bribe someone into supplying blood and he wouldn’t have to rely on his co-worker Martha’s charitable nature anymore. It felt a little strange relying directly on humans for blood. It felt a little too much like Josef’s situation with his freshies.
“It’s good to see you.” In this case the statement wasn’t just an empty pleasantry. Mick really was glad to see Beth even if he was a little nervous about their meeting. “Take a seat anywhere.” He remained standing for the moment, waiting to see where Beth would sit, first.
