It had been one thing that the night previous Emma had told him that Baelfire was Henry's father. That revelation alone was enough to cause Rumple to be emotional, but then in the morning he'd woken to see that Bae had arrived in Lawrence. That shock was one that stirred emotion within him to a point he hadn't felt in a long time. So much regret mixed with fear, knowing his son was still angry with him. How could Bae not be angry? Rumple had broken a deal with him because he had been afraid. He was afraid of losing his power. He was afraid of the unknown. Under all of his bravado, all of his word games and mind games, Rumplestiltskin was still very much a coward. How many things had he run away from in his life? He had crippled his own leg so he did not have to fight so he could instead be home with his wife and child and be a father to his son. But that had gone so horribly wrong. It was the beginning of the path that he was fated to walk.
After his comments to Bae, Rumple had left the computer. He needed something to do, something to calm him. With all the memories flooding back, he felt as though he was on the verge of crying for days straight. Part of him was happy to know that Henry was part of his family, but there was a larger part that was a massive jumble of emotions about Baelfire. As much as he had known this place could bring anyone from anywhere, he hadn't quite expected Bae to arrive. Though the Seal certainly had an impeccable sense of dramatic irony to have pulled Bae here nearly right after Emma had told him about Henry and Bae. Though Rumple could at least put one question to rest, that Bae was alive and well. That was a start. Given the centuries it had taken to get to Storybrooke, Rumple hadn't discerned whether or not time moved differently between worlds so he had no true way of knowing whether Bae was even alive. Which was why he'd needed Emma to break the curse so he could bring magic back and cast a spell to find that answer.
But none of that needed to be done in this world. Bae was here. Not knowing whether Belle was working yet or not, Rumple had decided to spin some straw into gold for a while. Spinning always helped him clear his mind and center his emotions. It was using magic, yes, but he needed something cathartic to keep him busy. He didn't want to run the risk of having his emotions get the best of him and doing something rash. No, he needed to exert control. So he went into the room his spinning wheel was in, leaving the door open in case Belle came looking for him. Sitting at the wheel, he set his cane aside, picked up some straw and began to spin the straw into gold. As much as he tried his best to appear calm, he was anything but, and there were giveaways in his body language. The way his shoulders slouched slightly. The way his eyes were deep and troubled as he focused on the straw. This was certainly not something he had been prepared to handle.
