She frowned a little when he didn't answer her question, but didn't put up a fuss when he pulled her into him a little tighter. "Hey, I did, but I'm not now... I don't understand. I'm pretty sure death is supposed to be the end. I mean, I know people talk about the afterlife, but I didn't think the afterlife would be in fucking Kansas."
When he pulled away and she finally got a good look at his face, it confirmed everything she'd heard in his voice. And seeing all of that raw emotion playing across his face made her heart sink a little. She'd seen a lot of shades and variations of Peter, but this was one she hadn't and she didn't know what to make of it. Other than she hated knowing he was that broken right now. She didn't like it when Peter got broken.
"Well, yeah, of course I am! What'd you think you were gonna come meet a dream at the library? I'm not in your head, Peter!" A tiny, lopsided smile turned up the corner of her mouth. That touch was familiar, and in that moment it was a welcome comfort. She returned the kiss, her own hand reaching up to cup around the back of his neck, her fingers twisting through the ends of his hair.
