Who:Dean and Jules
What:The aftermath of ghosts
When:Tonight
Where:Dean's place
Warnings:TBA?

At first Juliet had been afraid of the ghosts, but then they became a source of comfort. Being without her mothers presence that night was harder then Juliet expected. She knew she wasn't alone, but she felt a sense of loss all over again and it wasn't a welcome feeling. Growing up it had only been her and her mother, outnumbered boy four boys. Three brothers and her father. Juliet always played tough girl, running with the boys, learning to punch and shoot guns. Her mom tried to instill femininity but Juliet always pushed it away. Then when she was six her dad vanished. It was like she'd lost her best friend. She became so frustrated and so angry she pushed her mother away as well. As a result Jules had learned to harden herself to certain emotions. Dealing with loss was one of them. She didn't want to admit the fact that losing her mother again was bothering her so she busied herself in Dean's apartment. Baking. Baking was always a good distraction and she knew Dean liked it when she did it. Two birds with one stone.

Family had always been complicated for her. She didn't talk about her own very often. She had always been very independent. There was a reason she didn't bring it up, she had really hoped it would never be an issue. Her father left her at a young age to be a con man. He tricked his way into expensive houses and onto yachts of billionaires. He had taught Juliet everything she knew about detecting fraud and Juliet wasn't proud of it. Her mother had tried to talk her out of being so angry at him, but it didn't work. She was a daddy's girl at heart and it broke hers the day he left them for a life of crime. She'd idolized him, and seeing her mother only brought back those memories. Those and the fact that she han't been the worlds greatest daughter combined were enough to put her in a quiet mood that night.

Standing in the small kitchen and chopping apples for a pie, she looked down at her handy work and placed the apples into a mixture of cinnamon and sugar and other various things that went into apple pie and put them in the pie waiting pie shell. The oven was already on the correct temperature to bake, so all she had left to do was slide it in.

>"Ben's asleep? How is he..?"

Dean shrugged, eyes on their hands - hers were smaller, and for all that he knew she was capable of holding her own, that she knew how to use those hands to shoot a gun and handle a knife at least vaguely and arrest bad guys and all that, seeing how small and soft her hands were was a sharp contrast, kicking his protectiveness up a couple levels. He shifted his hands to catch hers and held on to them. "He'll be okay, I think. Kid's pretty tough..."

It would have been worse for Ben, he was sure, if it had been Lisa. The kid already missed his mom, he was pretty sure her ghost showing up would have just been horrible - not only would it confirm that she was dead (not just missing, or seal-napped, or whatever), but then Ben would've had to deal with her being gone all over again... so, yeah. Lucky.

>"How are you doing? I know you and your dad were close.."

That was a bit more complicated to answer, and he hesitated a second, just standing there and holding on to her, mind running over the last two weeks. Nothing had been fixed, between himself and John Winchester, not really. They'd had some good moments, and a lot of really rough ones, and overall he knew where his father was right now. Heaven might not have been the best place ever when Dean and his brother had paid a visit - but he knew his parents were both there at the same time, and, hell, that had to make it better for the both of them. Plus they weren't being stalked by angry angels trying to wear them as meatsuits. Bonus.

"I think I'm good, actually." It felt weird to admit it - or, rather, it felt weird to realize it was true. Normally, he'd just come out with shit like that, spit out words of reassurance and pretend he was actually doing fine, when really he was falling apart. Now, he was a little unsteady, a little shaken - but he wasn't falling apart over it. He didn't feel like he had to. "I mean, I wish he was here, but... not like that."

(Death's message was a whole 'nother story entirely, of course. But he was pointedly ignoring that. Death was just a douchebag using scare tactics. It didn't matter what he said, Dean wasn't going to let Lucifer have his brother.)

"You?"

She blinked as he stopped her hands and she looked up at him warmly. They'd had their issues, and yet still it was small moments like these that reminded her why they made it through. There was no one she felt safer around then him. "Like his dad." She smiled softly and leaned back against him. Her hand gently resting against his. She still had a few scars from where Alastair had cut her open but they'd even come back from that. She was starting to think there was nothing they couldn't face. Even the apocalypse.

She knew Dean and his brother were in the center of it all, but Dean always came back to her. "Really?" She raised a blond brow as he actually answered and didn't reach for a beer or other various hard liquors. She studied his face for a moment and leaned up slightly to kiss his jawline. "It isn't right, bringing them back like that." She murmured as the smell of baking apple pie begun to fill the room. "I missed my mom, but I think ghosts need to be able to move on. I want her to be at peace." After her father had left them Juliet basically raised herself.

She'd stopped letting her mom in as much as she had as a child and just frowned slightly. "It's complicated." Half an hour left on the pie. She didn't want to forget, pie burning in the Winchester household may as well be a sin.

"I'm glad it wasn't my dad." She said with a hint of annoyance. That would have meant her father was also dead, and so different sets of emotions to deal with.

"My dad left us when I was six." Dean was the only person she'd even attempted to tell about her family. She hadn't told Rose, or Florence, or anyone else. She was ashamed of it really and it showed.
