At Claudia's question, Helena's look of confusion only deepened. "What am I talking about? Christina. She's standing right there, can't you see her?" Helena gestured to where Christina was standing, her other hand still clinging to the counter to keep her from falling to the floor. One way or the other, this wasn't a situation that she liked. Hadn't she been tortured enough with having lost her daughter?
Christina glanced at Claudia, then looked back up at her mother. "Mummy, she can't see me. Only you can."
Helena looked back at Christina. She was almost at the point of laughing, and not in the good way. This was definitely one of those times when she was going to laugh because she seriously felt like she was losing her mind. "No...no I can't do this..." Yes she'd finally decided to let herself feel the grief she'd held onto for so long, to face Christina's death and try to move on and heal as much as she could form it. But that didn't mean she could actually handle seeing Christina. And if Christina was some sort of hallucination? Well, all signs were starting to show that she might be losing her mind.
Letting go of the counter, Helena slid down to the floor, her gaze fixed on Christina, tears welling up in her eyes. She wanted to laugh, to cry, to scream, to run. Whatever was happening...she couldn't see it through. She just couldn't.
