Who: Rachel and someone
What: Rachel wakes up in her pajamas in a diner of all places! WEIRD!
Where: some greasy spoon diner
When: around five o'clock September 7th
Status: incomplete

Rachel was facing a tough situation. Normally the biggest of all pushovers, her very nature had been reversed by an alpha’s anger inducing pheromones. She’d had a very heated conversation with her mother, saying things that she never would have even dreamed of saying. Rachel didn’t get angry, or when she did it was carefully hidden away. Really, the only people she ever opened up to were Nina and Doctor Rosen, the latter more than the former. Even with the two of them, Rachel never really asserted herself, but considered herself lucky to have them in her life, Nina especially, for coming to her rescue in the aftermath of the anger pheromones.

Nina had spoken up on Rachel’s behalf before, sticking up for her when she found it difficult to do so herself. She’d never really said it to anyone, but Rachel thought of Nina as a good friend very similar to a more glamorous big sister. When she had shared that she’d disrespected her mother and told her to ‘shut her mouth’ Nina had actually told her that it was a step in the right direction. Rachel wasn’t sure it was true. It certainly hadn’t been her usual passive way of doing anything, but it was beyond the assertiveness she aimed for. It was aggression and it had Rachel in a tough place, so Nina had offered her couch until Rachel felt comfortable moving back in with her overbearing family.

It wasn’t what she was used to, but Rachel didn’t utter a single word of criticism regarding Nina’s apartment. She even fought off the urge to vacuum and clean the whole place, turning it into a spotless, relatively germ-free environment. The couch had been made into a sort of makeshift bed, made with Egyptian cotton sheets. It was very cozy and easy to drift off to sleep after she’d managed to clear her head of worries and bad thoughts.

Rachel was waking up, slipping out of slumber and becoming more aware of the waking world. Slowly it hit her that she wasn’t sleeping on a cushiony sofa. She was curled up on some harder surface. The material wasn’t cotton, either. Eyes still closed, she brushed her sensitive fingertips over it and recognized it as some sort of vinyl. The smells hit her soon after - bitter day old coffee, various burnt types of food, grease everywhere. She sat up quickly and found that she was in a dirty diner, sitting in some booth and getting some very awkward stares. The stares made sense. She was some strange girl, sleeping in her pajamas in a diner.

“I’m... Sorry...” She stammered. It was all she could manage as she hopped to her feet and hurried out of the place. She had absolutely no idea of what had happened, but she knew it wasn’t right.

Peter had gotten his identification situation all sorted out thanks to Chloe and he'd been spending the day scoping out the nearby colleges in and around Lawrence. He was headed on his way back to the complex when the door to the diner he was passing by flew open and a girl rushed out into the streets and nearly barreled him over in the process. "Whoa, hey," he wasn't sure what she was running from, but knowing the stories he'd heard about this place? It could have literally been anything.

"Hey, are you okay?" he asked, grabbing hold of her arms to make sure she was steady on her feet. She looked kind of out of place in her pajamas, considering she'd just come out of a diner. She was in no state of dress to be in a diner. There was a part of him that wondered if she was a new seal delivery.

Rachel’s eyes were widened and there was panic written all over her face, but she tried her best to compose herself for fear of looking like an absolute lunatic. Before she answered the man she took a second to try and regulate her breathing. She’d been in tricky situations before, but this had definitely caught her off-guard. After all, it wasn’t every day that a person wakes up in a completely foreign place.

“I think so.” She spoke in a lowered tone of voice, looking away from the man to gather clues as to where she might be. She’d done some travel in her line of work, but from what she could gather this was no place she’d ever been before in her life. It seemed like America, though she wasn’t sure what state until she caught sight of a newspaper stand a few yards away. “Lawrence, Kansas.” She muttered to herself.

“I’m lost.” She confessed in a slightly wavering tone. Rachel often found herself trying to be brave or at least put on a facade of bravery. This time she was finding it difficult.

The fear and confusion that was painted across her face made it clear. She was definitely another person on the ever-growing list of displaced people. "Uh, yeah, I can tell." he nodded, offering a small smile in hopes of trying to make her feel a little more at ease. "But it's okay, don't worry, I can help you."

"Uhm, maybe...start with telling me the last thing you remember before you woke up here." he nodded. That sounded like a good place to start. "Walk with me?" he offered, but he left it as an option for her to decline if she wanted.

Rachel was wary from experience, but chose to go out on a limb and trust the man. If things got weird she knew to pull away, make a story up to ensure her safety, but for right then she would go along with things.

“Before I woke up here I was at a friend’s, spending the night.” Rachel nodded at the suggestion of walking with him and took a step alongside his. Though she knew instincts could often be wrong, for now she was giving him the benefit of the doubt. After all, who else was going to help her figure things out? “I went to sleep on her couch and I woke up in that diner.” Rachel made an unpleasant face upon thinking about the diner. There had been so many unpleasant smells that even the place’s memory turned her off. She suspected that it was very different to a person without enhanced senses, but to her it had been awful.

He nodded slowly and started walking with her. He was headed back to the complex and she would need to get there to get an amulet. That is, if she didn't completely freak out and run or something after he explained what was going on.

Suddenly, Peter wasn't sure he should be the one explaining things to her. It wasn't an easy thing to hear, it sounded insane, really. "And...uhm, this is going to sound weird, but...what year was it?"

He was right in thinking Rachel would consider the question weird. She eyed him, still walking, with an almost confused expression on her face. It seemed like a strange inquiry, like something a doctor would ask a patient to make sure they still held a grip on reality.

“2011.” Her eyebrows wrinkled slightly. “What kind of...” She trailed off into silence for a second. “Why?” Nothing about this was easing her worries at all. There were so many bad things that could have been responsible for her situation. She worried, mostly, that it had something to do with the terrorist group Red Flag. Who knew what a cluster of rebel alphas could do?

Peter felt the look on her face athis question was justified, but he nodded, "O-okay, so...here's the thing..." he gave a soft, nervous chuckle. "This is gonna sound kinda crazy, but...you're in a differnt universe than wherever it is you're from..." he started slowly. "It's complicated, but...basically there's a series of seals in hell that kept demons and Lucifer himself locked away, something happened and they got broken and, and one of them drags people here to fight in the Apocalypse... It's September in twenty-twelve." There really was no easy way to break the news, so he decided to just get it all out and let her process it.

Rachel shook her head as if she was trying to pull herself out of some kind of mental funk. He was right. It did sound crazy. She wrinkled her eyebrows and gave him another look as if he might clarify what he’d just said and suddenly make sense.

“I really don’t mean to offend you, but that sounds like something out of science fiction.” She was a little worried that this was all a hoax, that maybe she looked gullible and that someone might think it was funny to tell her a crazy story. His expression seemed honest, though, and it didn’t seem like he was getting laughs from her situation.

He laughed softly, nodding slowly, "Yeah, yeah, I know it does, I thought it was crazy when I first got here too, but...I swear, I'm not lying. There's plenty of other people that will tell you the same thing." He wasn't sure that was all that reassuring, but it was the truth.

"Regardless of whether you believe me or not, though, I'm going to take you to this apartment complex. Free rent, free food...everything you need, right there, totally free of charge." He explained, hoping that would at least ease some of her panic.

Rachel cocked her head to the side slightly. She had a good talent for being able to tell when a person was lying and this man seemed to be genuine in all he was telling her. She tried to tell herself that, prior to meeting Dr. Rosen and the other alphas she worked with, her life had seemed a lot like science fiction, too. There was probably a scientific explanation for her arriving in Kansas as well.

“Like a hostel?” She hoped for a ‘yes’, otherwise it would have sounded uncomfortably similar to Jonestown. Rachel was always especially creeped out by stories of cults.

Peter nodded, smiling slightly, "Yeah, basically. It's safe there. They have a lot of different security measures, it's not so bad." He knew that being in a strange place could be scary, especially depending on the situation surounding it as well.

"Can't pass on free, can you?" he asked, a slightly amused lilt to his voice.
