Helena's prank had gone down smoothly. The previous day she hadn't thought she'd be able to pull it off as Fayina and Jelena were there and she didn't want to scare them. Though she had a feeling that Fayina could've been in on it with her, but Jelena would've blabbed to the others about the walking Tripod. But as it was, she was still able to pull it off. Helena was rather smug with herself in having built the miniature Tripod to working order. In retrospect, she felt she could've added something to simulate the heat ray, but that was no matter. She'd managed to get the desired reactions. Well, once Pete had calmed down from trying to protect them all from the mechanical device. After that, she had come down and retrieved the device, a large grin on her face. Oh how she was proud of herself. It had been a project she'd been working on very hard for a couple weeks, meticulously acquiring the parts and assembling it in her work room on the top floor of her house. The lock on the door managed to keep Pete out lest he go in and mess about with things that could potentially do harm.
But now was not the tie for playfulness. Now she was getting ready to go to dinner with Pete to have a serious talk. It was one she really needed to have with someone who understood. Myka was in no place mentally to talk about it, so it fell to Pete. Claudia wasn't from that particular point in time, so she didn't want to put that on the younger woman's shoulders when she knew it was difficult for Claudia to process such things. And she was still trying to come to terms with Steve's death. Perhaps having this talk with Pete would have unexpected good outcomes to it. Because really, Helena truly needed something to go her way for once. And really, she needed an outlet for all the things running through her head and heart. At least she could talk to Pete about some of it. It would take the edge off until Myka was in a place where she could talk about it.
After putting Emily down for a nap, Helena went to tell Myka her and Pete were leaving. She then went into the entryway, running a hand through her hair and taking a steadying breath. She needed to try and keep herself centered, focused on what she most needed to say so she ensured that it got said. Because Helena had a terrible knack for avoiding things and to deflect unsavory subjects. So she was striking up an internal battle with herself even now, forcing herself to remain open, to allow herself to feel. At least this time she was doing it sober. The alcohol had been a necessity to keep her from closing off when she'd had to move Christina's things out of her old room to make room for Emily's. That had been exceedingly difficult, but she'd come out the other side of it, and she was still standing. She was still able to laugh, to smile. So that was a good sign. Absently slipping a hand inside her blouse, her fingers wrapped themselves around the locket with Christina's picture in it, both drawing strength from it and also idly fiddling with it as she sometimes did.
