Darcy smirked and rolled her eyes a little when Dick agreed with her son about Batman's hat. "Out of the mouths of babes, huh?" she joked, tousling Clark's hair with one hand. At least Dick was taking it well. He could have just as easily been offended.
A softer and more genuine smile crept over her lips as Dick told her a bit about his past. She realized, in the back of her mind — and admittedly ignored it — that he was the first friend she'd had since Trish who had actually told her anything willingly about their past that wasn't specific to trying to make her feel better about her own. Even her best friend's life had been a mystery until she'd been sent back and the DVD of the concert had been released. "I try," she teased lightly. "That's really cool, though. I haven't been to a circus since I was, like, seven...Rachel — she used to be my best friend, once upon a time — Uh, Rachel's dad would always take us. Every year until we both decided to let him know we were too cool for the circus," she said, her voice trailing off as she pushed any potential for a thoughtful frown away. "I'd love to take the boys to one sometime, if you hear of any around here," she said, attempting to gracefully segue into something for which she wouldn't need to think about Rachel.
Then, she paused. "Why don't you do it? I mean, if you find a circus...why not join? I mean, unless you just really don't want to be traveling and everything and I can't say I'd blame you, especially not on your own."
When he answered her about the jeans, Darcy nodded. "I thought maybe." She gave him a sympathetic sort of half-smile and patted one of his shoulders with her free hand, over Conner's head. "I never did, either, until I came here the first time. So when I had the chance to make one wish and get pretty much anything I wanted when I came back? It was kind of a no-brainer. Don't feel bad, you'll figure things out, Dick," she assured him.
His next remark caught her off-guard and she let out a surprised sort of huff where a laugh might have belonged. "Say what, now?" she asked, wrinkling her nose and knitting her brow as she looked back at him with a mingle of amusement and confusion on her face.
