Who: Dawn Summers & Ruby Winchester
Where: Sam & Ruby's house
When: Backdated to 12/31
What: Dawn does the spell to re-ensoul Angel
Rating: PGish?

The main reason Dawn was doing this was because she knew, deep down, Buffy would have wanted it done. Personally, Dawn thought that Angel was responsible for too much pain, and that it was too easy for someone to remove his soul and give him the convenient excuse of being a monster again. Spike, on the other hand, had shown his better side even before he'd regained his soul....by choice. But she arranged to do the spell anyway, for her sister, even if she was absent right now.

Thanks to wishing the Magic Box and it's inventory to Lawrence, procuring the herbs and the Orb of Thesulah hadn't been a problem. Ruby had helped her set up a sacred circle on a table in the basement, and Dawn looked it over as she took a deep breath. Orb surrounded by candles, check. Lighter and herbs to burn while waving over Orb, check. Ruby had a page of Latin in front of her, and the Rumanian curse itself was in front of Dawn. She'd gone ahead and translated it, just so she could understand each word and because she remembered Willow using the English version, until the spell had taken over, at least. Willow had once described it as being outside while something powerful, something very old, took control of her voice, and that was part of the thing that worried Dawn, but she was going to go through with it anyway.

Looking over at Ruby, the eighteen year old Key gave the demon a vaguely shaky smile, trying not to reveal how nervous she was to be performing a spell this powerful - it was different from the one she'd done to bring her mother back from the dead. She swallowed hard, then nodded to her. "Ready?"

And there it was, Ruby had been warned this might happen. So when Dawn's head snapped forward and she started speaking a language Ruby knew from her past, possibly the only real memories she had were of old languages of magic. Old words with old power. The thing had taken Dawn over to perform this spell. This curse. And Ruby had planned for this, she looked across to Dawn and nodded, without words letting the thing that had taken over see her power and see that she was here to help.

She made it aware that dawn was under her protection here, and this spell would go well, curse the vampire that deserved nothing more than to remember his victims, remember the guilt and understand the truth of it. And also, y'know, not kill.

She focused as the Rumanian words flowed from Dawn's lips, and then she felt it, the soul. The demon she was, rarely more visible than right now. That beautiful shining thing that held so much power. She could take it, Dawn was engrossed in her spell and Ruby was a witch of some power, she could take the soul, get it to Crowley and make Angel suffer in hell. Sam would understand and she knew Lindsey would be happy about it wherever he was. Just reach out and...

No. No she knew that wasn't how things went.

Ruby let her hand rest on her stomach knowing that in spite of the urges she wasn't that person anymore. She couldn't be. She made herself look away, focusing on the herbs and on making sure nothing breached the circle. That was what she could do to help Dawn, and what she would do and the fang would owe her one.

Dawn could feel the difference, but she couldn't stop it, especially now. All she could do was cling to herself as the power took over and the gypsy curse worked it's way through her, forcing Angel's soul through the Seal. "Te implor, Doamne, nu ignora aceasta rugaminte. Nici mort, nici al fiintei. Lasa orbita sa fie vasul care-i va transporta, sufletul la el." On those words, she reached out and picked the orb up in both hands, holding it above the table. There was something holding it back, and she could only imagine that it was the challenge of pulling it from another world. That was a risk, Dawn had known - she hadn't been sure if it would work. But now, she knew it would.

The table began to shake as Dawn's voice rose in strength and volume, "Asa sa fie! Asa sa fie! Acum! Acum!" The orb in Dawn's hands suddenly glowed a bright yellow, then faded suddenly. After a few seconds, she slowly set it down, then blinked a little. Exhaling slowly, she looked over at Ruby. "I...I think it worked?"

Her bright blue eyes rolled up into her head suddenly and she fainted to the floor from the force of the spell she'd just done and the suddenness of the power fading.

It had worked. They both knew it and Ruby hoped the bastard was grateful for what they'd done for him here. What Dawn had done. She closed her eyes for a moment as Dawn spoke but was still there to catch the girl before her head hit the concrete. She moved with the speed borne of her demon strength and looked down at the girl pulling her hair back from her face. It had taken a lot out of her, that was to be expected. She had just pulled a soul through from whatever hell it had found itself in and forced it back into the form of an unwilling fang idiot that didn't deserve all the chances he was getting.

Ruby wondered why Dawn had done it. There was no love lost with Dawn and the vampire but she'd done this for him. Saved his life by using her wish to bring the way to save his soul to their world from hers. She hadn't had to, she could have done so much else with her wish. But she'd done this.

"Yes it worked, it worked just fine honey" she told the girl. Normally she'd have hoisted Dawn to her feet and carried her upstairs herself, but it wasn't really the done thing for a pregnant woman to exert herself so much and even through Ruby was demon again, it wasn't worth the risk. Dawn would be fine, it would just take time for that power to leave her. For her energy levels to reassert themselves. She quickly texted Sam. The message a short one, to get downstairs and help the girl. They'd leave her sleeping in one of the spare rooms and keep her with them until they made sure it worked. If Angel was himself, they'd know, and then he'd have Dawn to thank for it.

And the son of a bitch had better. Or Ruby was gonna make good on a promise she'd made to Lindsey a long time ago.
