WHO: Alice Longbottom and Darcy Rhone
WHAT: Darcy practing the mom thing with every chance she can get
WHEN: This evening
WHERE: Alice's flat
RATING: Probably G
STATUS: In progress

Darcy had caught herself up completely on What to Expect When You're Expecting and she'd even read ahead to the part where she could get an idea of when she'd know it was time, but after that, she'd gotten bored and needed a break from the books.

Signing into the forum, she'd seen that Alice wasn't feeling well and the light bulb went off. Her kids were going to get sick someday; that was completely inevitable. Why not practice on someone who could tell her what she needed and get that experience under her belt? Plus, Alice was a friend and Darcy didn't like the idea of just sitting back and letting her suffer. Colds were the worst, especially since Alice was used to an entirely different and probably far more instant remedy.

Leaving a note for Clark, Darcy grabbed her purse and packed an overnight bag, just in case, then called for a cab and headed down to the complex lobby. Once she'd gotten to CVS, it had only taken her a couple of minutes to grab a box of Popsicles, a container of chicken broth, a package of small noodles, a bag of cough drops, and a bottle of NyQuil. Less than ten minutes later, she had stopped at a RedBox and was back at the complex and knocking on Alice's door.

"Hey sweetie, it's Darcy," she called. "I brought a total Kick Alice's Cold's Ass kit with me..." she teased, grinning slightly. "If it's unlocked, I can let myself in, so you don't have to get up," she offered.

Alice wasn't sure how she'd gotten sick. It hadn't just hit her today. Nope, she'd felt kind of icky the day before, but this...this was definitely jacked up, worse. Yesterday it had been just a bit of a tickle and scratchiness in her throat. Today she was coughing, it was sore, and she didn't feel well at all. Her nose was sore and discolored to a slight pink because she'd been blowing her nose off and on since she had woken up. Back home feeling this way would be solved quite simply with a pepper up potion....

Not here. That was a little bit disappointing. Alice knew that there was no way she was going to attempt to brew any kind of potion, though. She was awful with them, and she wasn't about to go around asking all of those from her world if they were capable, she was pretty sure none of them were healers or potion masters, anyway. She'd just have to deal with it the muggle way, which she figured out by talking with Darcy. Some sort of concoction called NyQuil. It sounded like it tasted awful, but if it would help....Alice was willing to try it.

The petite blond had sort of been nesting on her sofa; she'd spent all day in her sweats, wrapped in a blanket on her sofa. She couldn't even remember the things that she had watched, but there had been several shows. Alice had literally just finished making herself a cup of tea when she heard the knock on her door. Her hair was pulled up into a rather sloppy bun atop her head and it bounced slightly as she walked toward the door, a cup of tea in one hand and a tissue in the other.

She could hear the voice coming through her door, but she'd already honed in close enough to it. Reaching for the door with the hand holding the tissue, Alice opened it up (after unlocking it), attempting to clear her throat,"It was locked, and I was already up." Alice offered her brunette friend a smile as she stepped back, "Come on in." Alice told her, her voice was nowhere near what it normally was. There was a raspy quality on top of it coming out pretty breathy.

Alice tilted her head. "What exactly is in this Kick my Cold's Ass kit?"

When Alice opened the door, Darcy gave her a sympathetic sort of smile. "Oh hon," she said sadly, letting herself in when Alice stepped back. She felt badly that Alice was ill but on top of that, Darcy hated knowing that Alice was going to have to suffer through it the "muggle" way, because things were different in this world than they were in Alice's back home. She was going to to her best to make it as painless as possible.

Darcy made a beeline to Alice's kitchen. "Well..." she started, unloading the bag from CVS onto the counter one thing at a time. "We have...Popsicles and chicken broth and noodles to make you some soup to help with your sore throat, cough drops for the cough, a couple of movies starring total hotties to distract you, and of course...a cold's worst enemy, NyQuil," she explained, taking each item out of the bag as she mentioned it.

"Go sit," she said quickly, realizing that she hadn't meant for Alice to get up for anything further than answering the door. "Actually, hang on," she said, moving back toward Alice and pushing her inner wrist up against the other woman's forehead. "Wow, yeah, go sit down," she said. "I'll get you a cold washcloth," she insisted, moving that hand down to her stomach and making her way to the bathroom and wetting a washcloth with cold water.

"I see you've already got tea, so that's a good start," she called out as she shut off the faucet and wrung out the cloth. Darcy made her way back into the living room and held it out to her friend. "Here, sweetie, put this on your forehead while I make you some soup," she said softly, giving Alice another sympathetic glance.

Alice couldn't help but attempt to sniffle a little bit, she wasn't exactly successful at the moment, though. She couldn't breathe out of her nose, really. Even though Darcy was pregnant it was nice to have her here; Alice just hoped that Darcy wouldn't catch whatever Alice had. It was definitely not fun, and Alice was pretty sure it wouldn't be good for the little guys that she was carrying. Doing things the muggle way was hard; Alice was really missing the wizarding world around now. Whenever she had been sick back home Frank had been so sweet. She hadn't said anything to anyone, but more and more lately the petite blond witch had been missing her husband and her small child.

Alice made sure the door was shut and then brought her tea up to her lips taking a sip, her eyes following Darcy into the kitchen. She shuffled just slightly closer to the kitchen, but didn't enter, listening to what Darcy had grabbed up. It was nice to have someone helping her out. If she had attempted to make soup herself it would probably end badly for her, if she were honest with herself. Darcy seemed to have all of the bases covered. Alice couldn't help but grin. "Seems you have everything a girl could need!" Alice rasped out, having a small fit of coughing after speaking.

As Darcy told her to sit, Alice was prepared to move to the couch, but halted when Darcy asked her to. Alice stood there, looking at the other woman, blinking when the inside of Darcy's wrist was placed against her forehead. It felt cool against her feverish skin. Alice just gave a nod and rasped out, "Thank you." Alice listened to the pregnant woman, settling herself onto the sofa, taking another sip of her tea and then placing the cup on the table.

As she heard Darcy's comment on the tea, Alice grinned. "Tea I can make! It's one of the things, anyway." Alice told her, her voice breaking and sounding scratchy; as Darcy came back into the room, Alice took the rag and automatically settled it against her forehead. "Thank you so much for this." She couldn't help but feel thankful, it was so nice of Darcy to do this.

Darcy smiled, proud of herself. She was pretty sure she'd covered all of the bases. The Old Darcy would've just told Alice, sucks to be you, sweetie, but the New Darcy needed to practice nursing people back to health because, sooner than later, she'd have two baby boys who would likely play catch with illnesses, passing germs back and forth like pros. "I tried, anyway," she replied with a grin. The grin faded quickly into concern when Alice went into a coughing fit and Darcy moved a few steps toward her friend, rubbing a hand in circles on her back. "Aw, sweetie..."

Once Alice was settled and had the washcloth held against her forehead, Darcy was satisfied that she could get to work on the chicken soup. "So...I can't cook," she warned, "which means this soup is literally going to be broth and noodles. Just saying," she said with a small smirk as she rooted around Alice's kitchen until she found a mug sufficiently large enough for her mission. "Don't thank me, this is what friends do, Alice," she said, turning to look back at her friend as she said it so that Alice would know that she meant it.

Darcy busied herself putting together a makeshift soup for Alice, figuring that by the time she was finished, Alice would have emptied her teacup. Tea was nice, but soup was better, Darcy thought. Then would come the NyQuil and a Popsicle to wash away that nasty taste. Darcy had gone for the Cherry flavored one, but even Darcy knew that artificial cherry flavoring couldn't put a dent in that God-awful taste that came with getting to knock the shit out of a nasty cold.

Having finished warming the broth and giving the angel hair pasta that she'd snapped into tiny pieces time to soften in it, Darcy crossed the kitchen and came back out to the living room, sitting beside Alice and holding out the mug. "Be careful, it's super hot. While it cools, do me a favor and just breathe it in. Even if it doesn't smell super amazing, it'll help clear your nasal passages a little. At least, in my experience, it does," she offered, giving Alice another small, sympathetic smile.
