Who? Loki and Darcy L.
What? Attempting this whole ‘real date’ thing.
Where? Some random sea-side cliff in the middle of nowhere that probably doesn’t really exist shhh, whatever, this is fiction.
When? Backdated to last night, just before sunset. Erin took too long to get it posted in time, whoops.
Rating? Not terribly high.

There was a thin tendril of magic hanging down from the roof of the gazebo. It was invisible to the untrained eye, a sparkle of green-gold light to Loki, and he reached out, twisting it around his fingers until it was pulled taut, then tugging sharply so it snapped free like a loose string on a garment, immediately going from gold to black and then disappearing like it was never there at all. There were no others, a quick check confirmed, but that didn’t make the presence of this one any less unnerving.

These strands had been all over Asgard, in that other world - like cobwebs in the corners. He had assumed it was his alternate self’s fault, but lately they seemed to be here, as well... and even in places he sincerely doubted his alternate self had been. There was no blaming this on him. Loki wasn’t sure what it meant. His spells were flawlessly intoned, careful and meticulously created. It wasn’t sloppy magic, he knew better than that. Still, loose strings of magic, purposeless and generally harmless glittering things, just seemed to be ...there.

He was not going to focus on that this evening, however. Tonight was for Darcy. He had requested her presence for a ‘date’ this evening, and he had a few details to see to before he retrieved her for it. He wanted everything to be perfect - or at least as close to it as possible, since it would be illogical to expect perfection on something like this.... still, he would do his best.

Loki had chosen this location for how remote it was - a low sea-side cliff, where there would be a rather pleasant view of the sunset, in about an hour. The lack of people nearby meant there would be no interruptions, no threats - or at least it minimized the risk of such things significantly, compared to staying in Lawrence.

A quick trip to get food (Italian, invisibly taken from a restaurant, off the counter where it was waiting to be taken by a waiter to some customers), and then he was back, settling the plates on the table, covering them to keep them warm. Everything else was in place - candles, so they would not be sitting in the dark once the sun went down; a bottle of wine was chilling in a bucket of ice; a small music playing device sat off to one side, currently silent; he had done his best to think of everything. Mortal courtship seemed to rely a lot on these ‘dates’, where Asgard simply seemed to be a statement of intent and then proving one’s worth; he did not wish to ruin the evening by forgetting something important, no matter how miniscule it seemed. He wanted her to enjoy herself.

Picking up the small bundle of flowers off the table, Loki returned to Lawrence, standing at Darcy’s door. He knocked - sharp and loud enough to carry, but not obnoxious. He preferred this - knocking and waiting for a response before entering - because it didn’t really matter how many times she said he could simply ‘pop in’, he felt it was something of an invasion of privacy to do so without a specific invitation for that particular incident.

Date. Courting. Outing. Whatever the hell he wanted to call it, Darcy was all for it. No, seriously! Darcy was all for it! It had taken Loki long enough to figure out that it was okay to even like her in the first place. The fact that he had gotten to the point that he was okay with going on a date with her was a miracle. He'd gone from being unwilling to admit anything and avoiding talking about anything of this sort to taking her on a date. As far as Darcy was concerned this was progress. She didn't exactly make it unknown that she had a crush on him. There was no reason for her to hide it. She cared about him, she liked him! She had made it clear, hell, she'd pretty much put it on the comms in big huge letters...y'know in the form of that goofy ass communication sheet that she'd posted. Maybe that hadn't been the best idea, but he had gotten to the point that he got the picture.

He had made it pretty obvious that he cared about her too. Between being protective of her and the way that he looked out for her....she could just tell. Then there was the fact that Needy had as much as told her that she could see it too. They'd skirted around things for a little while. Darcy wished that they hadn't but at least they were at this point now. She had gotten pretty tired of arguing with the alternate version of him. Though, at the same time, she had some fun getting on his nerves with all of her questions too. Now that her Loki was back it was nice that she was going to get back to what was normal for her. It really wasn't all that bad either.

They were going on a date! That was pretty exciting. Not only because it was a date, but also because any time spent with Loki was good time. Darcy had spent time getting ready for this. She was a girl, she sometimes did that sort of thing, you know?

She might have gone out and gotten a dress to wear for the date. Okay, it wasn't might, it was definite. She had. And she looked pretty damn good in it if she did say so herself. Her process to getting ready for her date had been as follows: shower, brush teeth, do her hair, agonize over whether or not the dress with the right choice for tonight, paint her toenails, finally put the dress on, and then make-up. In fact, she was putting the finishing touches of her make up on when she heard the knock on her door.

Okay, so the knock at the door caused some heart flutters and butterflies that were probably just a bit silly, but Darcy decided it was all right to be excited (because that was definitely what it was). "Just a sec!" Darcy yelled out from the bathroom, running out and looking around for her shoes. Where the hell had she put them, exactly? It took her a few long seconds, which included looking in her closet and under her bed before she realized that she had sat them next to the couch because she hadn't wanted to end up doing this. "Smart, Darcy." She mumbled to herself as she headed for the couch, it took her a moment to slip into the shoes and then a couple more to make sure her dress was straight and to make her her hair felt as if it still looked good.

After all that she was finally ready to answer the door! Darcy took a breath before calmly heading for the door, opening it up wide without hesitation, smiling as she saw Dorbs on the other side. "Hi, sorry that took so long. I sort of lost my shoes for like a sec." She joked, though it was actually true. "Come in," Darcy told him, holding the door open wider, grinning at him.

Darcy’s voice through the door directed him to wait for a moment, so he did - stepping back and folding his hands and the flowers in them behind his back, waiting patiently for her to emerge. When she finally opened the door, his smile was both reflexive (the immediate small polite smile of greeting a firmly-engrained habit) and genuine (brightening from the formal little smile it started out as, into something warmer and closer, just for Darcy).

>"Hi, sorry that took so long. I sort of lost my shoes for like a sec."

“It is not a problem,” he responded, “I was not waiting long.” Truthfully, even if it had been a long time, he would not have minded. He would have waited even if she had taken a few hours. He’d have been concerned, of course, but if there had not been danger he would not have minded waiting for her. Changing plans to suit her.

These were the moments where his own thoughts caught him by surprise, where the degree of fondness he felt for this startlingly complex mortal girl sort of blind-sided him. thankfully, he was quite good at not speaking his mind freely, in such situations.

He stepped inside past the door as she held it open for him, offering the flowers to her with a small flourish and another smile once he was inside the apartment. “I thought you might like these,” he offered, almost like he felt he needed an explanation for the gift. He doubted he did need to explain why he was bringing flowers for her, but regardless, there it was. “Whenever you are ready, we can depart.”

Loki was a catch, honestly. He may not have understood that or even realized it, but he really was. He was a great guy, the fact that he was waiting there, patiently, for her at the door was just one of the many reasons that Darcy thought this. She couldn't believe that she was lucky enough to have wormed her way into his life, really. There had to be a ton of women that thought Loki's smile was both charming and handsome. He was totally hot, even if he didn't think he was, or maybe he did. She wasn't even sure about what he thought. Seeing that smile was nice, though. Darcy really liked it when Loki managed to smile, and not the tiny ones, but the real ones. Like the one he was giving her now.

"Well, if I'd kept you waiting forever that would have been totes rude on my part." Darcy told him, making it pretty obvious that she wouldn't have kept him waiting forever. She wasn't a rude person....mostly. Okay, maybe she was a little rude at times, but not to people she liked, just to those that she didn't like for the most part. Darcy obviously liked Dorbs, so there was no chance that she wanted to be rude to him.

Maybe she was wrong for getting so attached to him, but it didn't feel wrong. He was a good guy, even if another version of himself did some awful things. The thing that Darcy focused on was that he wasn't that person. He was himself and the guy that he was was sweet and adorable in a lot of moments, so....that was who she liked, even if not everyone could see the truth for what it was, she could. Hell, after alternate him, Darcy was just glad that he didn't thinks he was beneath him. That ass had given her things to think about, but.....y'know right now just wasn't the time for that. Nope.

As he brought flowers out from behind his back, Darcy grinned brightly. "You totes thought right." She told him, taking the flowers. The first things he did was bring them up to her nose to sniff them. They smelled good. "Thank you, they're beautiful." Loki was cute, even if he probably wouldn't have appreciated being thought of that way. He was thoughtful and it was nice to be around someone like him, honestly. She was ready to get going, so Darcy nodded. "Let me put these in some water and then we can go!" She was excited, she couldn't help it!

It only took Darcy about two minutes to get a pitcher that she had (what? she didn't have any actual vases!), and to fill it with water before she put the flowers into it carefully. After that she stepped back into her livingroom and put the flowers on the table next to her couch, grinning at her date. "All right, I'm ready." She couldn't help but wonder what he had in store!
