Who: Kaylee and Ron
What: Kaylee is kind of bored.
Where: Ron’s
When: Today, afternoon

Just like every other world Kaylee had seen, Lawrence certainly had its many ups and downs. She was cheerful enough. She could recognize when things were going smooth and everything was shiny. Just days ago she’d had her nails painted and her hair styled in a way Inara would have approved of. (Even during all of this weirdness she found herself glancing at her shiny, pink fingernails.) This tethering thing that had thrown so many people in a tizzy was kind of anticlimactic to Kaylee. She was tethered to Ron and it wasn’t terrible. He didn’t have BO and he wasn’t a psychotic killer. He was kind of nice, really. At least she had that to be thankful for.

She’d just been sitting a couple feet away from him for a while and things were getting a little boring. Kaylee had wanted to show off her new hair around Simon, hoping to get a good reaction. She missed their home on Serenity where the two of them had lots of sex. Here was different. They’d been plucked from different times and didn’t work close together. She let out a small huff of boredom, then looking to Ron.

“Hey, wanna go work on a car?” Her face brightened up a great deal with the question.

At first, when all of this had only just started, Ron had taken everything in the most horrible way possible. He had grumbled about being stuck sarcastically, he had tried to exceed their boundaries by pushing past their limit (ten feet, it seemed) several times over in spite of the agonizing headaches that triggered upon doing so, and he had even attempted an unsticking spell that he had learned back in Charms when Hogwarts and homework were the only things he once had to worry about. Nothing worked. They were bloody well stuck and there was nothing that Ron or anyone else, as far as he could tell, could do about it.

Ron was, at least, grateful that the person he was tethered to wasn't a pain in the arse. Kaylee seemed decent, friendly, and a world more patient than he was, what with the pacing he'd done back and forth about his flat over the past hour and a half, so he was pleased that he was stuck with her, rather than someone that would drive him mad. Like Lavender, for example. Actually, that was probably the best example. If he and Lavender got stuck together, this entire complex probably would have gone up in flames by now.

For the moment, Ron was sitting at a table he had set up in the corner, poking at the chess set that was charmed to move like the one's that they had back home. His knight was duking it out with a white bishop when Ron heard Kaylee speak up, her voice carrying words about working on a car. "I dunno anything about cars," Ron said, turning from his chair to look over at her, "the only proper experience I've ever had with one was the time I flew Dad's into the Whomping Willow. Wouldn't know a thing about fixing them up." It seemed strange that she would, since most women that Ron knew wouldn't really care much for getting their hands dirty and - as he understood it - fixing cars required quite a bit of that. But there were loads of people here with differing personalities and, honestly, it probably wouldn't surprise the Weasley in the slightest if Kaylee was the most brilliant mechanic in the entire world.

“Well,” She let out a little laugh. “I sure ain’t lettin’ you drive this one.” Kaylee peered over at Ron’s fancy chess board. She didn’t know the rules of chess. She’d never played it before in all of her life. Still, it was pretty neat watching the little figures fight. Magic was something that just plain didn’t exist in her world so it was interesting to be stuck by a wizard’s side. Of course, it would have been much nicer if this was all voluntary and not because of some crazy seal.

“How do you guys move around without things like cars or ships? Some kinda magic?” A smile spread across her face. Other worlds so different from her own fascinated her like some kind of wonderful fairy tale. It seemed that they couldn’t possibly exist, but that was a good thing. It made her imagination work overtime.
