Who: Piper Halliwell, Melinda Halliwell, Leo Wyatt
When: Tonight
Where: Piper & Leo's apartment
What: Serious talks
Rating: Probably fairly low
Status: In Progress

She was busying herself by baking bread - mostly because she needed something to focus on aside from how close things the previous had come to going very badly. Piper was more than a little disappointed, because honestly, she wouldn't have expected a Halliwell to act that way. As much as even she tried to be normal, live a normal life, she knew that they weren't normal. They did have certain responsibilities, and Melinda's actions had Piper doubting if she had ever been a huge influence in her life. They had barely had time to talk in general since her daughter had arrived, and she was starting to wonder if she'd just been a crap mother. Dying too soon for Christopher (in that darker future), letting Wyatt go evil...and now, a daughter who barely reminded her of herself. Some days, Piper just really wished that Phoebe had never used that spell in the Book of Shadows.

Pulling out a loaf of cinnamon raisin, she set it on the stove, set the potholders aside, and turned off the oven with a sigh. A glance was shot towards the clock on the wall, and she reluctantly left the kitchen and walked out into the living room. "Leo? It's almost time!" She called out to the empty room, then waited for him to show as she sank down onto the couch, really hoping that she didn't mess things up with her daughter, which she truly thought she was about to do. But she was her daughter. It would be wrong to just ignore what Melinda was doing,  wouldn't it? That had to be worse, because it would be like saying she didn't care. And she did, very much.

Melinda really wasn't looking forward to going to see her parents. She hadn't talked to them all that much since she'd arrived in Kansas. She had her reasons. It was just strange that they were so much younger. It was also strange that they didn't even really have a clue as to what the future held. Okay, maybe they had a clue, but they didn't know her. they didn't know what it'd been like raising her and for her growing up. She didn't know what to think, but she knew that they were still her parents. It was easy to see. She didn't really know what to think about them. Last she'd seen her family it hadn't been the most pleasant of experiences. It had been her own fault, but still. It was hard to go from having been avoiding her family to having to try and be around them and get along with them because they don't have a clue about the future. She didn't know that she was going to tell them about the situation in the future. About her dating the demon and how it had caused such a big fight. She didn't want to tell them, really.

Melinda was pretty sure that whatever her mom had to say wasn't going to help the headache that had been nagging at her. That was why she'd put off going to see her parents as long as she could. She couldn't put it off forever, though. Melinda had become best friends with water during the course of the day. After she'd left Adam's that was. That was the other bit she wasn't going to tell her parents, or her aunt for that matter. That was something that could stay between her and him. It was weird, honestly. She wasn't sure how to treat it at the moment. Her thoughts on it kind of bounced around and it was hard to settle on one. She thought that thus far she had done pretty well, though. She hadn't acted too weird yet. It was a bit weird, though. She wasn't quite sure how to act. she was going to figure it out, though. Adam was her friend, no matter what.

With her head at just a dull ache that was nagging, Melinda headed for her parents' apartment in the complex. She'd already gone and gotten her shoe from Adam (missing that would have been a bit hard to explain). Melinda wasn't trying to impress anyone at the moment in her sweatpants, her hair was in a ponytail. If she had a choice in the matter she probably would have skipped this lecture all together, but it wasn't an option. She respected her parents enough that there was no way she'd do that. Didn't mean that she dreaded this lecturing any less.

It didn't take her long at all to reach the their apartment. Lifting her hand, Melinda knocked, fighting back a yawn. "Mom, Dad, it's Mel."

Being dragged into an alternate universe through a broken seal was turning out to be more of a learning experience than Leo had expected. He was well aware that time travel existed, having pointed the sisters at a spell or two in the Book of Shadows to help them along their way. What he had never encountered, or heard of for that matter, was a family that was so scattered along the timeline, they almost felt like relative strangers to each other. Piper was several years ahead of him and Melinda was even farther ahead than that. There were events that had happened over the course of that time that had a drastic impact on all of them and yet he was absolutely clueless about most of it, except for now he knew that three children were in his future. If they ever got out of this place.

True to his word, Leo had gone to grab a mug of coffee for Melinda out of the pot he'd brewed that morning. After her behavior the night before, a hangover might have been punishment but some coffee wasn't going to hurt. He'd never been a hellraising kid as a mortal but he had had a moment or two when he'd stepped over that line and remembered what the morning after felt like. Miserable. As something that was self-inflicted, it was nothing that he could heal either. Approaching the pot, he realized that there was even less than he'd thought and they were out.

In the process of grabbing a canister from downstairs and sticking a note to the kitchen, promising to replace it, he heard Piper's call from their apartment. It was a great familiar feeling to have his powers back again, even if he could sense his wife's anxiety. He headed for the stairs, taking them two at a time up to their floor. As he entered, he headed for their kitchen and as he passed by Piper, he put an arm around her waist. "Don't be too hard on her," he said quietly. "It wasn't the best thing for her to do but there's worse mistakes for her to make." Giving her a quick kiss, he headed for the coffeemaker just as the knock on the door came.
