Watching Jaina's careful approach, Leela was glad to see the woman didn't act like a coward when it came to a fight. If there was anything Leela disliked, it was cowardly people that would lose their wits. But Jaina approached with confidence, one that she could admire, even in the throes of rage she felt right then. Underneath the storm and fire of emotions within her, Leela was still the same Sevateem Warrior she'd always been. Confidence and courage were on her side, and she wielded them with the same deadly accuracy she wielded her knife.
Leela's grip tightened around the hilt. It had been the knife Romana had given to her for Christmas, the last thing she'd ever gotten from her friend. It was fitting that she would use to exact revenge for her fallen friend and charge. No doubt had this happened on Gallifrey that the Time Lords would have killed her or thrown her in prison for failing in her duty to protect the President. But right now none of that mattered. All that mattered was the Jedi standing in front of her. If she was to die here tonight, at least she would die fighting for Romana, which was more than anyone else that had called Romana friend were doing.
Leela's gaze followed Jaina's hand that went for her weapon. It was the obvious movement to her, and Leela wasn't expecting another attack, one that didn't come from a weapon. But when the energy came flying towards her, Leela froze, eyes widening in surprise. She had faced many types of attack before, but none quite like this. She tried to dodge the attack, but it was too little too late. While she avoided a direct hit, the energy still hit her, knocking her back. She cried out as the energy wounded her, burning her bare skin. She fell to a knee, right hand holding her left arm. Her left arm, shoulder and a little of her chest had taken the brunt of the attack. Drawing in a sharp breathe through clenched teeth, Leela glared up at Jaina. But instead of giving up, she leapt up, springing up suddenly like a coiled snake striking at prey. Adrenaline kicked in and she didn't feel the pain. All that she felt was the burning need to strike down this opponent. She drew her knife back as she closed the distance between them, then lashed out, aiming for Jaina's chest.
