WHAT: Mother/Daughter time because TK isn't going anywhere.

Tenel Ka Djo wanted to be a good mother. It wasn't really all that surprising, was it? She wanted to be a good mother to her teenage daughter. She'd adjusted to the fact that her daughter wasn't the same small child that she had before she had arrived here. Something significant about Tenel Ka was that she had always and she would always take things in stride and she would remain calm. It was something that had always been present in her. She gathered thus far that Allana had seen that even as she had grown up. Tenel Ka wasn't an emotional person, but she did care as to whether or not her own child was comfortable around her. She did want to be around her child. That was the whole reason she had asked Allana whether or not she wanted to do something together. That was the biggest problem that there was about moving in with Jacen. She wasn't in the same proximity to Allana that she had been before.

Honestly, after the big Jaina debacle Tenel Ka almost wanted to suggest that Allana leave the complex as well. People were up in arms over something that she didn't think was a big deal at all. The logical side of her couldn't understand how they could all make the jump from Jaina doing something so simple to needing to keep people with powers in check. It wasn't something that she thought was necessary. The Jedi that were here were more than capable of keeping themselves in line. The only one that might pose any real problems was maybe Jacen. It was possible that Cade also fit into the same category, but he wasn't that much of a problem thus far. The woman just didn't understand the jump or why the emotions of people were coloring the issue so much. Jaina had done something that had helped.

The thoughts swirling in her mind were easy to control as she approached the complex. She was going to spend time with her daughter. She still hadn't quite wrapped her head around the fact that Allana seemed to think she shouldn't be interested in sticking around and spending time with her. Tenel Ka was going to show her daughter that she had no reason to fear her mother being gone and uninterested in what was going on in her life. The Hapan Queen wanted to have her family. She knew that in their own galaxy it was too difficult and had to be done in secret, but here things were different. Here Jacen was different, he was trying. She was giving him a chance too. Here she could freely have her family without the burden of the responsibility that she hadn't wanted in the first place.

Before she even realized it, Tenel Ka was at her daughter's room. Lifting her hand to knock, Tenel Ka spoke up, "Allana, it's your mother." Her tone was matter-of-fact and even; a smile covered her face as she waited on her daughter to answer the door. Maybe this was a good chance, being here. She could be the mother she wanted to be and she could have the family that she was most certainly denied back home.

Sometimes Allana wondered if her mother’s preternatural calm was somehow parasitic, if she maintained her equilibrium by siphoning it sneakily from everyone around her. Maybe, she thought as she ran a hairbrush through her hair, it’s a Hapan thing. Maybe that’ll be my first lesson when I get dumped back there. How To Be Calm When Everyone Else is Panicking Because You Caused the Panic. In the absence of such a class Allana was most emphatically not calm. It was more than just the unrest at the complex, though that was bad enough having given her a first taste of what it was like to be feared, it was a pretty specific mother/daughter cocktail of Not Calm.

When she’d first left Hapes to live with her grandparents she’d missed her mother desperately. In her first few years of life she’d almost never left Tenel Ka’s side, too many assassination attempts, too much risk. Her early memories from Hapes were all of her mother: playing around the skirts of her dress in the morning, holding her hand and stepping carefully onto a shuttle, trying her best to imitate her mother’s perfect posture. She remembered too that for weeks after she’d been left with Han and Leia she’d had to determinedly stifle her tears at night, disguising her homesickness behind asking her grandfather for cup after cup of water before he’d figured out what she really wanted and sat at the foot of her bed, talking to her until she’d fallen asleep. For years she’d brought up the “Queen Mother of the planet I’m from” at every opportunity, telling anyone who would listen about her, and looked forward to her infrequent calls. But, as she’d adjusted to her new life, had come to understand what it would mean to return to Hapes and her mother, she had come to see those calls as a reminder of a responsibility she didn’t want, to resent her mother as its representative. This was made all the worse by the knowledge that her mother had also rebelled against her duty, had gone off to train as a Jedi and planned on never returning until it had become a necessity. Tenel Ka’s life seemed like a roadmap, a living reminder that whispered you’re trapped, you’re trapped.

But none of that changed the fact that Tenel Ka was her mother who loved her and who, despite everything, Allana had missed while growing up. She knew her too, and if she knew the child instead of the teenager, well, it was still better than Leia who did her best but was learning for the first time what Allana wanted her to just know. All of this, all together, swirled around to make the prospect of spending an afternoon with her mother a more complicated prospect than it was for most teenagers but, still, not one she was dreading.

“Door’s unlocked!” Allana called from her room in response to her mother’s knock and Daisy’s barking, “I’ll be out in a second!” She turned back to her closet and grabbed a long cardigan to pull over her tanktop and cast about for a moment before finding the knee-high black boots she’d become fond of in Vegas with their combination of sensibly comfortable utilitarianism and decorative buckles. Boots tugged on she grabbed a scarf and hurried out into the living room, grabbing the cup of coffee that she’d left on the table and downing the remaining liquid in one gulp before tossing it into the sink and whirling back to face her mother, grinning as if hoping a big enough smile would make her mother forget that display of teenager-living-alone sloppiness. “Hello,” she said in greeting and rocked back on her heels a little as if downshifting from her getting-ready rush.

Tenel Ka was completely put together. She had always been the woman that could remain composed. Very seldom did she break from that. However, on the inside she was more than a little bit nervous. Even that, she had somewhat of a hold on. It was difficult not to be nervous, though. Whens he had been pulled from her home, Allana had still been so small. She had been but a tiny child that had known little other than her mother. Tenel Ka had been her mother, Allana had still lived in Hapes. There had been no thoughts of sending Allana anywhere. Tenel Ka could easiliy believe that she had taken such action in the future. The most important thing to her would be Allana's safety. She had a responsibility and a duty to Hapes, but her child, her daughter, mattered as well. Her safety was important. The Queen Mother couldn't imagine that it had been an easy decision. She loved her child, though she might have seemed cold or stone-faced much of the time. She loved Allana and she loved Jacen. Even more she loved Jacen's family. They were her own family in her mind, though it was never stated out loud.

Spending time with Allana was something that Tenel Ka looked forward to. She wanted to get to know the young woman that had formed from the small child much better. She wanted to know her and she wanted to show her that she was not just a mother in name. The redhead had gleaned from conversations with her daughter that they didn't have frequent contact in the future, but being here meant that they had time. They could spend time together. She expected they would do just that. Already there had been moments where the jedi had made mistakes here, but everyone made them. Ordering Allana around was not the way to deal with her, getting to know her would help her be the parent that the young woman needed, though.

Hearing the shouted reply, Tenel Ka reached carefully and opened the door before stepping aside. Her eyes automatically scanned her surroundings. It was not shocking, though Tenel Ka herself had always been tidy and organized. The barking bothered her little, afterall Jacen had kept many strange pets in his younger days. "Take whatever time necessary, I am in no rush." She stated, projecting her voice so as to be heard. The braids that she customarily wore were in place in her hair, her clothing today were reminiscent of the blues that she had worn back home in Hapes, though she lacked the armor that she was accustom to. As Allana emerged, Tenel Ka couldn't help but watch her every move, seeing her father in her. Perhaps it was not obvious to all, but to the Queen Mother there were similarities. "Hello." Mother replied to daughter, offering her a smile. "Are you ready to go now? I thought that we could eat first, perhaps, what do you think?

Allana sometimes wondered what it was with people from her reality and their absolute refusal to adapt to earth styles. Her mother, for instance, looked almost exactly like she would have on Hapan, cool blues and greens in a flowing style, hair in braids, all that was missing was the armor. It wasn’t an unflattering look, it was sort of genetically impossible for Hapans to look too awful, but it was certainly as close to Hapes as you could get on earth. Anakin was the same way, complaining about earth clothing, and grandpa didn’t even seem to have bought any new clothes. Allana, meanwhile, had spent her time here combing through earth media, television, the internet, fashion, and (with some help from Jen) was now practically indistinguishable from someone who had been born and raised on earth in her skinny jeans, long cardigan, and boots. She had heard a couple of her more native friends mutter disparaging things about “hipster” style but she liked her clothes, they were completely unlike anything anyone wore back home, and her goal, after all, was to embrace earth culture for however long she was here.

“Eating sounds good!” Allana said agreeably, maybe overcompensating a bit for her awkwardness with a bright tone. “I think there’s a good place by here where my friend, Rose, works. 12th Street Cafe? I think it’s actually on 10th street or something though. It’s weird, but they have good coffee so I’m all for it. Unless you had somewhere you’d already thought of?” She shrugged and bent down to scratch Daisy’s ears before straightening and pointing an index finger at the dog to begin her pre-departure ritual. “Sit,” she instructed the pit bull who promptly plopped down onto her haunches and waited expectantly. “And, catch!” she tossed the treat she’d produced from her pocket and Daisy hopped to grab it in midair before streaking off in a blur of skidding paws and wagging tail to the crate Allana had bought her. While the dog was gnawing on her treat Allana grabbed her purse and jacket.

“I can calm her down with the Force but she likes having a routine too, you know, so she knows all is going as expected and I’m actually coming back,” she explained. “So, right, lunch?”

Looking at her daughter it was almost difficult to differentiate her from one that had born on earth. She had adapted. She looked as if she belonged in this sort of lifestyle. It caused Tenel Ka to feel conflicting feelings. On one hand it was good to see her daughter so natural and so comfortable here because this gave her a chance to escape from everything in their own galaxy. On the other hand it almost worried her, and along with that she almost felt as if they could find little in common because they were so different. She wasn't going to leave it at that, though. She couldn't. Allana was her daughter and despite her cold exterior, Tenel Ka did have feelings and did care. It was taking the Hapan Queen much longer to assimilate to the culture. Perhaps if she remained here very long she would move further along, but for now she was still very much the woman that had been pulled from her own galaxy.

With a slight nod, the mother smiled at her daughter and then found herself watching her daughter speak, nodding lightly. "I believe that 12th Street Cafe will be quite fine. I hadn't thought of any other location as of yet." Tenel Ka wanted Allana to pick the location so that she would, perhaps, feel more comfortable. The dog didn't phase Tenel Ka much at all because Jacen had collected so many pets in his younger days. In that moment Allana reminded her mother a great deal of Jacen. It brought a smile to her face.

"I understand. You father collected animals in his youth as well." She commented before nodding. She moved to head out the door, ready to spend time with her daughter.

Allana hitched her shoulder blades up in an unconscious shrug, a little self-conscious under her mother’s scrutiny. She’d always been like that, even at home during their infrequent chances to talk on secure channels her mother’s eyes had always been so intently trained upon her that she’d felt the gaze like a weight. At home she’d always assumed that the intensity of expression on that otherwise calm face was a side effect of the weighing Allana always took it for granted she was undergoing, an assessment to see if she was good enough yet, mature enough, to be hauled back to Hapes to begin her ‘real’ life. Here, however, there was no possibility of that unless Tenel Ka had, through sheer willpower, managed to drag sixty-three planets through the seal (which, come to think of it, might be entirely possible Allana thought wryly) but the Hapan queen was just as focused on her daughter on a daily basis as she had ever been during her yearly calls. That she missed her daughter, had missed her all along, had never really occurred to Allana who was mired too deep in a combination of looking back on leaving Hapes with the memories of a child who had not really been able to understand the reasons behind the change and her current teenage the-galaxy-is-against-me-especially-my-parents mindset. Still, whatever her reservations, she was going along with her mother’s attempt to get to know her. It couldn’t hurt, after all.

As they exited the apartment and Allana locked the door behind them her mother made an offhand reference to Jacen’s animal collecting habit and Allana twisted her mouth slightly to one side. It got a little unnerving, hearing how alike they were supposed to be, how she reminded everyone of how he’d been as a child and teenager. So what’s the implication, she always thought, that I’m going to turn out like him too? She knew that wasn’t what they meant but it sometimes made her uncomfortable all the same.

“Yes, I’ve heard about all the pets,” she said, mildly enough, before switching topics. “So what have you been doing since you got here anyway? Are you working or are you still just figuring everything out or, what?” she asked as she headed towards the stairs down to the lobby. “I mean, we’ve talked and all since you got here but mostly just about whatever the stupid family drama is this week. I have no idea what you actually do,” she clarified gamely. She might be awkward at it but she was Jaina Solo’s apprentice and she didn’t back down from a mission. Mother-daughter bonding was at least going to get a shot.

Tenel Ka couldn't help but keep her gaze trained on her daughter. She was a beautiful young woman. The fact that she was a young woman was unnerving enough, but Tenel Ka didn't know all of the details of how she had become the strong person that she spoke with now. The mother didn't know her daughter. This was a fact that had managed to weasel it's way under the Hapan's skin. she didn't know her daughter as she should. She didn't know the details of Allana's life. She didn't know her likes, her dislikes, or her fondest memories. Tenel Ka knew what she had gleaned from speaking with her daughter in the midst of familial drama in moments and from looking through posts that she saw from her daught eron the communication boards. This wasn't the same as if TK had raised Allana and known these things because she was there. To add to this difficulty Allana wasn't raised by her, she'd been raised by the Solos, by her grandparents. The Queen Mother wasn't sure why this fact seemed to bother her, but thus far she had tried not to think about it in great detail. She knew that she wouldn't give up her child lightly, so there had to have been good reason for Han and Leia to take their grand-daughter. It didn't make it any easier now, though. She had missed so much, she just needed to catch up, needed to spend time with Allana, and she was determined to make it happen.

The reference to Jacen wasn't something that TK thought before saying, she just recognized the similarity. It seemed to be a trait that Allana had more than likely received from her father. In looks, some of the more obvious traits had come not from Jacen, but from Tenel Ka. TK had yet to know whether or not there were similar personality attributes that she and her daughter shared, but she expected that she would find out as time passed, as they took time to get to knkow one another.

"I'm sure your grandparents told you. And Jaina." TK stated before lifting her chin lightly, hearing the question that her daughter posed. She walked confidently and with grace. "I've been doing a great deal of reading, studying the history of this planet as well as the culture." The older redhead stated calmly. "I am not working, though I find that I may pursue this option in the future. I've done very little of importance since I've arrived here. It has, basically, been observing everything around me." There was a smile on her face as she said it, and she meant what she was saying. There was a position that she had heard was going to open up at the library and she found that it did interest her somewhat. What interested her more was her daughter, rather than herself, though. "And you? What have you occupied your time with while here?"
